House Majority Whip Steve Scalise, R-La., underwent surgery Thursday after concerns emerged about a possible infection as he continues to recover from a gunshot wound received over three weeks ago during practice for the Congressional Baseball Game.

“Congressman Steve Scalise underwent surgery for the management of infection. He tolerated the procedure well. He remains in serious condition,” MedStar Washington Hospital Center said in a statement. “We will provide updates as appropriate.”
