Looks like my patio. The floor actually, after all of this rain and wind my deck’s covered with split, ripe fruit.

Sorry to hear that! Can you salvage any of it?
LikeLiked by 2 people
Yeah, some. Rains hit as the tomatoes and peppers were ripening, tons split and peppers develop rot. Lots of folks around here were hit. Worst part in that as so many big box stores using national veggie set sellers kill off local set growers you can’t get replacements as these big growers start sets in Decemberish and don’t start and after the spring rush. Locals used to grow a few second plantings ‘justbin case’ as some folks would want large crops of things like tomatoes. Big guys can’t afford to do that.

Pretty much the same here at box stores. I worked at our local Farm and Garden store for 20 years. The last 5 or 6 we used a local grower. It was awesome. She had plants pretty much until mid July. Her plants were amazing. She really took pride in her work.

Then you know of whom I speak when I say the ‘big grower’. A couple of years back it was put to us that the Big Grower was seriously contemplating doing away with multi-set packaging and going to individual cups…and they did. At 20 cups of tons per 60 feet of row it gets expensive fast.
We’re also stuck with what they decide to grow and which selections of what they’ve grown to stick on the truck. Ain’t unusual for me to gave three different types of tomatoes in a row as they don’t send enough (does anyone fo marketing studies anymore) or just send something else.

Oh yea, we fought the big growers for years on the single cups. We finally made a deal with the local grower who still does pony packs. She does do 4″ premium accent plants a 4″ tomatoes. She also toward the end of the season, say mid June shows up with tomatoes in Gallons! Some already have tomatoes on them. She does her own hanging baskets and the are the most beautiful things you have ever seen. She does special ones every year that are hanging strawberries! The customers go crazy and clean us out every day. The next morning she delivers more.

Have you thought about starting your own plants? 25 years ago before my Husband died, he built a small greenhouse off the side of our garden shed. I started tomato seed in February and by mid May they were already setting blossoms. I started cucumbers, melons, and peppers. The only thing I direct sowed were bush beans, pickling cucumbers, and onions.

Yeah, but there are so many other things to msintain it’s economically and temporally easier to buy them. If I had a commercial bent I’d fo that but a quarter-acre kitchen garden just don’t do it. I just mark the determinate/indeterminates with different color engineer tape and harvest at will.
I found that the different types of tomatoes when combined in sauce, whole canned, whatever, don’t make that much of a difference taste wise. I prefer the Heinz varietals for canning and sauce but bottom line is I takes what I can gets.

“It’s about power, not resources” — correct. The State arrogated to itself complete power, denying the parents ANY part in the decision-making process, even though they could afford to seek out the alternative treatment:

It’s also the next logical step after abortion. Idiots refuse to see the value in small children and the unborn because they forget that they were once at that point in life too.
Unless O-care goes we’ll see that in this country next.

Such a horribly sad story. The courts walk in the shadow of Josef Mengele.
LikeLiked by 3 people
There should be a mob of people blocking them from murdering that child. Not just for that one child, but for all of them. Every one of us should, at this point in time, be actively resisting and attempting to prevent these murders, nothing short of that will stop them from coming for your own child, whatever their problem might be.
This one caused much soul searching for me in the last two days. It should not just be a legal fight and we walk away because they have all the power. By letting it end there, at death and defeat, we just took the brakes off their train.

–Allowing the parents to take Charlie to America would have cost the state NOTHING– NOTHING!!!
–The parents were aware that the experimental treatment might not work.
–This would have been NO SKIN off the state’s teeth.
Except that they are Big Brother–not only watching you, but now OWNING you and your children. “All your decisions are belong to us.”
Like you, Menagerie, I am sick about this. If you–or anyone else–have specific suggestions on what to do to combat this from here on out, I am open to receiving any and all ideas. PLEASE.

I don’t even understand how the court can stop them. Private doctors, private plane, why is a court involved at all? My only answer is that they are only too happy to take over the role of Mengele. Life is of no intrinsic value to them.
Why aren’t we fighting? Why aren’t we rescuing the unborn here in our own country? I don’t know.

Just saw this. Is this really the position of the Catholic Church?

I “liked” this only so you’d know I read it, stella.
I do NOT like the statement. It reads like runaround gobbledygook to me.
I believe that parents may do anything positive within their abilities to help their children, no matter how faint or unlikely it might be to solve the problem. “Where there is life, there is hope.”
When the hospital pulls the plug, we’ll NEVER know if the experimental treatment could have helped.
What the heck is the hospital, government, and EU court afraid of?

Just saw this on big Pulpit. Looks like some politician wrote political BS to me. I’m searching around for commentary on this.
I think any devout Catholic would be appalled by the courts’ decisions to deprive this child of life.
That being said, I don’t believe the Church teachings mean that we must artificially prolong life when there is no possible viable outcome.
That is not the case with this child, and it isn’t what that crap statement said either.

I understand that, Menagerie. I stopped reading other folks/blogs for the same reason.
I might have to backtrack a bit in some cases–everyone has at least one lunatic moment (and some have more than that). But even specific blind spots don’t always block insight and wisdom with other issues.

The proper question to be raised in this and in any other unfortunately similar case is this: what are the best interests of the patient?
So the Church is saying that the state should have a greater say in a child’s care than the child’s parents.
This is not Catholic teaching. The parents are not deranged, abusive or negligent they are most likely far better versed and informed about Charlie’s medical situation and the possibilities that the US has to offer than any doctor who has seen Charlie as a patient.
Shame on the people who think chasing death is acceptable for Charlie.
Why? Why is it so important to the state that loving caring parents not exhaust every possibility?

And we circle back around again to “power”.
>>> Who has jurisdiction? Parents or the state? <<<
That's the bottom line for them. Not the well-being of Charlie or his parents. “Who is in charge here?” is the issue.

I’m certain you’re right, Mary. It is a matter of Power, but I don’t believe it stops there. I think the government is using the power to keep from there being a chink in the wall, and the fight isn’t for the present, but the future. The Nazi’s killed many who were deformed, disabled, those who could concievable be a burden on the State.
While this is, indeed, socialized medicine, I believe the end game may be out 10 or 15 years (given the rapid rate of change) and there is a UN committee right now preparing for one of those “for the children” declaration that’s only for the children that the State approves of – meaning with a likelihood of growing up to be a servant to that State.
I see it as the Powers That Be not wanting to set any precedent in these cases because it would be more difficult to change back to tighten the screws once we introduce hope and humanity. It will make their evil, cold jobs that much more complicated.
They just can’t have that. “It’s just the way it’s always been…”

I smoke cigarettes. For nearly ten years, at night, I’ve walked out onto my fire-escape to look upon the city and smoke, and try and think, ever hour or so. That last bit hasn’t been possible for the entire time.
I have a light under me, as soon as I walk out the door, that dates from the 1970s. It’s not so much a light, as it is an evil-noise-buzz generator that sucks out your mind and concentration and soul. I finally got my landlord and wife to come up the stairs and night and hear what I’ve been listening to for the last ten years. It’s a parking lot. The light is legacy from the watering hole their store used to be, and even without it, the whole place is still illuminated just fine. Only without a demonic buzzing that is louder than if I place my face against a diesel engine. This ancient noisemaker is the only light in South Haven that makes noise. Incessant buzzing, insane-making noise. I told her that light is just a by-product from this noise making evil device. I can’t even keep my windows open at night without hearing it, and even when my windows are closed, I hear it. I asked her for the last month or so to send her husband up here at night to hear what I hear in my sleep, and she must have.
She heard me, and last night I got home from work, and it, this infernal thing, was off. I sat on my stairs for four hours last night, and heard, for the first time in 10 years, the sound of the city. I could hear the rustling of the leaves in the trees and flowers around me. She found the circuit breaker, for this one useless noisemaking light, and turned it off. I think even the cat is happier. 10 years, folks. I walk out and it’s absolutely silent. I can hear people talking two blocks away.
And the alley is still illuminated by many lights that don’t make unbelievably loud electronic noise!
I don’t know if my writing can bring it to you, but it is as if a great burden has been lifted.
All I wanted was some peace. All it took was a circuit breaker.

I think it is the same. You just have to be smart in how you approach the problem. You solved it with your approach. Although, you did say you had asked repeatedly before this.
I had a woman and her two daughters move in next door to me. Seemed like a nice lady, just divorced. Her daughters went to their father’s for the weekend. She sat out on the patio under my bedroom window laughing and carrying on with her new boyfriend until about 4:00 in the morning, at which time they adjourned to the bedroom to make more noise. She said she hoped they didn’t keep me awake, and I told her nicely that they did. I thought that would take care of it. It didn’t. But, I figured I could handle this twice a month. LOL The girls went to their dad’s twice a month, and to their grandparents’ every time school wasn’t in, every holiday, etc. So, within two weeks, it was 3 times a week that they kept me up all night. So, I started cleaning my bedroom as soon as they went to bed at 5:00 AM. I cleaned our shared wall really well with the vacuum, knocked over furniture, slammed doors until about 8:00 when they decided to go somewhere else to sleep. I did this twice and the next day, she moved out. Good riddance.

LOL. I had Macedonian neighbors last summer for about three months, Plural.
Even though the lease says “No more than one occupant.”
While he was at work, his relative sister and her two kids made so much noise next door that, again, after about two months of taking it, I invited my landlady up while I was painting the hall walls and ceiling and trim, just to listen to what I had been subjected.
I found it was cultural. These folks, from eastern Europe, they are just naturally really, really loud in their conversations. Even when there’s two layers of drywall between them and someone who would like some peace. They don’t care.
I actually spoke with her just before they left. She’s an English teacher in Macedonia. I asked her, since I couldn’t help but hear her vocal anger, “Why are you so angry?” She went into a tirade about her brother, the actual tenant that she was visiting. Most of the yelling I heard for two months was her yelling at her employees back home over the phone, and at her similarly-loud kids. I told her that I understood that it was cultural, she understood that it was my duress she was causing. Just as if I played my giant subwoofer at 100% volume every night.
When I explored/cleaned the apt for the next tenant, I found something on the top shelf of a kitchen cabinet, wrapped in foil. I unwrapped it and it was a Macedonian quarter. Heh.

Two days before they turned that infernal light off, I played my music with the subwoofer at 100% volume. Almost enough bass to break the windows, and knock stuff off of shelves in the store below.
Maybe that’s how they got the message? All I know is I’ll be sitting out there tonight, at peace. And I won’t crank my sub past 25%, because that’s plenty for my apt. I might even use my good headphones.

I’m glad they moved out. I think that sign is what has made you edgy sometimes. It would have me.

I’m envious…you still smoke. After over 15 years of knocking back two to three packs a day Czarina kvetched me into quitting…cold turkey. I didn’t kill anyone nor did I do any of those other things someone going out cold would do but I can tell you the date and hour I had my last cigarette…it’s that strong of a habit.
It was nearly 40 years ago I quit butt I still get an infrequent but easily resisted craving, and the smell of a burning cigarette is still delicious. If Czarina goes first lookout Marlboro man, I’m gonna run ya over getting to the cigarette machine.

I quit 27 years ago, but I don’t have the urge any more. I used to dream about smoking.

Bad new, good news.
“Reports that the anti-fascist group Antifa plans to burn Confederate flags and desecrate graves have prompted calls on social media for other groups to gather in Gettysburg to counter those protesters”………………………………..”This museum has been careful to note how unlike others, it will not cave to political correctness no matter what:

First of many to yet come, I’m guessing. This will get lots of publicity and the antifa group will want to capitalize on that momentum, sadly. From there they will see it’s both a way to desecrate our true history and get their message out – and everybody likes a winner ( destroying monuments and gravesites – so there will be more budding antifa members wanting to join in on the ‘fun’.
At the same time, more of us will be making a stand. This monuments thing is going to become some kind of line in the sand for both sides. I could be wrong, but this will become a trend, and escalate.
Should be interesting while ever so destructive.

Yes. True. But, there really isn’t a choice but to fight back.

Oh I’m certainly not advocating there should be no pushback or fight back. I even think it’s coming later than it should have. There has to be a line where these mindless minions are called to, and if necessary, made to stop destroying what has been valued and continues to have value for the rest of us.
It’s at the place where there WILL be violence because this wasn’t nipped in the bud. Conservatives tend to not be reactionary for the most part, and the antifa got a leg up when their aims succeeded, with no resistance. Now more of our kind have, of late, awakened, and are more take a stand against this idiocy.
In other words, it’s heating up and just needs a spark.

This is SOO cool.
“hen a woman wearing a Donald Trump shirt was mocked by a Starbucks employee, word spread in the Charlotte, North Carolina community. Then, about 50 tee-shirt wearing Trump supporters met at the coffee house to show the business that conservatives can be coffee-lovers too. The protest, which they described as a “sit-in,” was peaceful and even fun-loving. (The protestors were quick to point out that they were actually paying customers, so they weren’t trying to hurt the coffee house’s business. In fact, they were increasing sales.)”

Brain eating amoeba in Louisiana tap water. I’d be dead. My nasal passages dry out when I sleep, so I snort tap water to rehydrate them when I wake, rather than buying and using the little nasal saline spray bottles. Or boiling the tap water first.

Tonight I cooked lamb and fig sausages, not knowing what to expect. It is surprisingly delicious, although a little more dry than a strictly pork sausage (the one I cooked has some pork in it). A little spice, a little aromatic (cinnamon), a little sweet.

The Moroccan Lamb & Fig Sausage combines the richness of lamb with the natural sweetness of figs. We also add a touch of balsamic vinegar and our own blend of ras el hanout spices (ginger, cinnamon, clove, all spice, coriander) for a delicious blend of sweet and salty.

lilbirdee12’s prayer:
Our Heavenly Father, Your children come to you tonight to ask for healing and peace throughout our country so that we may return to being One Nation Under God. Guide us to be leaders in Your Kingdom, spreading Your Love and Salvation to all. Forgive us our sins and deliver us from evil.
Lord, we ask for a blanket of protection over all our troops and law enforcement who serve to defend and protect us. Bless our representatives with the strength and wisdom they need to achieve the path You have chosen for us.
Please place Your Guardian Angels of Protection around Donald Trump and Mike Pence and their families as they seek to lead America back to You.
Grant us patience, Lord, as the evil ones try to anger us and cause us to fall.
Spread blessings over Israel and Netanyahu.
We humbly ask that You please comfort those who are grieving and in pain.
Thank you Father, for Your Love and the gift of Life.
In Jesus name, we pray. Amen

Conservative media outlets gain seats in White House briefing room
http://thehill.com/homenews/media/340323-conservative-media-outlets-gain-seats-in-white-house-briefing-room
Conservative media outlets have more official seats in a new White House briefing room seating chart released Friday.
The updated seating chart sees conservative news organizations Newsmax and One America News (OAN), as well as British newspaper The Daily Mail, with designated seats. Newsmax and the Mail have their own spots, while OAN shares a seat.
None of the organizations had a spot under the previous seating chart, adopted in 2015.
The New York Post now shares a seat with the Christian Science Monitor, both organizations that previously held their own seats. The new chart also gives a seat to Westwood One radio, which it did not previously have.
In an email to the White House press corps announcing the seating changes, White House Correspondents’ Association (WHCA) president Jeff Mason said the WHCA board considered multiple factors in making changes to the previous seating chart.
“The board considered multiple criteria during this decision-making process, including regular briefing attendance and commitment to the White House beat – we did not want scarce real estate going unused,” Mason said.

Federal judge blocks California ban on high-capacity magazines
http://www.sacbee.com/news/state/article158965184.html
A federal judge has temporarily blocked a voter-approved California law that would have forced gun owners to get rid of high-capacity ammunition magazines by this Saturday.
U.S. District Judge Roger Benitez, who is based in San Diego, issued a preliminary injunction Thursday that found the law was likely unconstitutional because it prevented people from using firearms that employed “whatever common magazine size he or she judges best suits the situation.” The law would have barred people from possessing magazines containing more than 10 bullets.
“The State of California’s desire to criminalize simple possession of a firearm magazine able to hold more than 10 rounds is precisely the type of policy choice that the Constitution takes off the table,” the injunction read.
Benitez added that “a final decision will take too long to offer relief, and because the statute will soon visit irrevocable harm on Plaintiffs and all those similarly situated a state-wide preliminary injunction is necessary and justified to maintain the status quo.”

Government workers in Illinois constitute 6.5% of the working population. Yet their pensions account for ONE-QUARTER of the State’s budget. They pay approximately 6% of the value of their pension, leaving 93.5% of us to underwrite the remaining 94% of the budget shortfall. The average teacher in Illinois retires in his or her 50’s, and will receive $66,000.00 per year. This does not take into account the 3% mandatory COLA every year . . . that will essentially double her pension benefit by the time she dies.
Illinois is broke, and they just missed the deadline for passing their budget.
