    For me it’s a bit reflective and sad — first Father’s Day after my dad’s passing.

    I haven’t seen this before but apparently this is cut footage from the Putin interview. Putin makes Kelly look like a fool.

    Putin is so politically savvy, unperturbed and swift with his long knife that he almost makes James Comey look like a neophyte.

        But we need both upper and lower atmosphere features to join in order to get that hurricane, ain’t got ’em yet, worst guesstimate is a tropical storm but a depression seems more likely.
        In the event it does become a whirling mass of destruction aimed at New Orleans the mayor’s office has its personal battalion of professional whiners and beggars poised to rush to DC and justify their demands for yet more Federal dollars.

            Little known fact: a few years back Trump was going yo buy a large plot downtown in what was a floundering New Orleans. He was going to build a huge hotel/condo complex that would have been the, if not in the top three, largest facilities in town.
            For some reason, after all of the hullabaloo, it quietly just went away – poof, no explainations, just poof. Smart rumors had it that while Trump’s used to third world shakedowns the NOLA politicians’ demands were way too out of line and he and his backers just pulled the plug. Wonder if he may still be harboring a grudge?

            Ain’t all that unusual for a major corporation to plan a development in/around NOLA and then back off for…undisclosed…reasons. Disney was looking around NOLA as a site for Disney World,they were even buying land on the north shore of the lake. The demands of Louisiana politicians became too great while Orlando put together a package that basically bribed Disney. Orlando knew it would benefit from the park while NOLA//Louisiana politicians wanted to start carving chunks off of the cash cow before it was even born. The rest is history.

        Ooh, this doesn’t look good. Even if it isn’t a hurricane, it would cause a problem here. Evidently a drain pipe busted, I understand this happens about 3 times a year, and they are having to drain the lake/pond so they can fix it. But, it keeps raining and filling it up. I was so pleased to see it was getting full until this morning and it is half empty. So I asked someone who knew and she told the what was going on. And, it is getting ready to rain again here soon. Poor guys.

          Local weather maven started the ‘weather as horror show’ movement here during hurricane Georges. The fear mongering got more polished as they perfected ‘terror through understatement and theatrics’ versus the old ‘WE’RE ALL GOING TO DIE AND IN A SLOW AND HORRIBLE WAY!!!’.

            When I was a kid it was just snow. Once they learned they could panic every old blue haired woman into fighting over the last loaf of bread or roll of toilet paper, they went all out. I always thought maybe the grocery stores subsidized the weather reports.

            Now we get “We are all going to burn to death from forest fires” when there is no rain and “We need to build arks” when there is rain. And now there can never ever be just a rain forecast. It always comes with the warning that there could be severe thunderstorms, lightening, high winds, and the potential for tornadoes. Even if the forecast for rain is 10%.

    Looks like Trump forged another bullet. His 2018 budget had a provision that would have done away with disability benefits for a class of disabled vets who’d reached retirement age. These vets draw 100% disability pay if their disability prevents them from getting work, even though they may not be 100% disability rated. Once they reach social security age their benefits would end.
    Now that may sound fairish to some even though the arcane and convoluted method the VA uses to determine disability rates isn’t known to them. It’s quite possible to have a 60% disability and not be employable.
    Next we have the issue of many, if not most, of these vets are living off their disabilities so the amount of social security they receive would be minimal, less than their disability payments in most cases. Tbe VA would have taken these ‘savings’ and used them in another area.
    I know, Trump didn’t write this himself, the budget’s usually written by the agencies themselves and reviewed by Administration geeks, but someone blew this one, it had every vet’s group up in arms and Trump’s name was all over it.
    The provision was quashed but the bad blood is still in the water and Trump’s taking the hit…looks like the VA’s way of striking back at him for daring to confront them. Trump needs to winnow his money people.

        My dad bought us one. Probably for more than his car cost, or six months of his mortgage. I didn’t want to mention this on Fathers Day, because I love him, and make similar bad purchase decisions. That was his worst.

        Now I see it. I really don’t care if they go through or not, because I’m not all that narcissistic. And yet… It’s sometimes a pleasure when people hear your thoughts.

        Most times, lately, since I haven’t posted at the Tree in a year or two, more than once a month, if that, I type a comment, and the browser snaps me to the top of the page, and the comment didn’t post. Right away, anyways. Not a patient man.

        I like the Tree, but I like Stella’s better. So much less chaotic.

        This incident in London is a case for the Tree, though. Like nothing since Tray, Brown, and Garner. CTH and Reddit are in competition to see who can figure out the truth first, and I love it.

        So glad the Trump election is over. Now CTH can get back to what they did best.
