Ayaan Hirsi Ali: Female genital mutilation and what we’re really talking about

I did not know there were different procedures that fall under the category of “female genital mutilation.” As she points out, the progressive press still tries to minimize the horror of the facts behind these practices. A NYT author suggests that we call it “genital cutting”, rather than mutilation in the spirit of understanding, I guess. You know, those who are “for” it, and those who are “against” it.

Fox News:

The recent news that a grand jury in Michigan has indicted three people, including two doctors, for female genital mutilation is a welcome development. As the first ever prosecutions of this crime in the United States, the case shines much needed light on an underground human rights abuse that has been going on for too long. Female genital mutilation has been deliberately covered up by those practicing it here or sending their daughters overseas during summer break to be mutilated outside of the law.

Yet, ham-fisted attempts to appear culturally sensitive by the likes of the New York Times reporting on this story will push these issues underground once more. The newspaper’s Health and Science Editor wrote that referring to female genital mutilation as ‘genital cutting’ is less ‘culturally loaded’ and will help to bridge a gap between those who practice FGM and those who campaign against it. In her eyes it’s a case of Africa vs. the West.

As an African who was subjected to FGM, now living in the West, allow me to help bridge that gap by explaining what we’re really talking about beneath the weasel words ‘genital cutting’.

There are five types of female genital mutilation performed on girls from as young as five years of age. Four of them are unarguably mutilation, and the other is designed to symbolize mutilation. I will start with the mildest.

[You can read the description of the five types of mutilation at the FOX link, above]

[She continues]

It is hard for people outside of communities practicing FGM to understand what is taking place. One example that has stayed with me over the years was a woman in the Netherlands that I translated for. I accompanied her to visit an obstetrician as she was having great difficulty with urination and menstruation. She showed the doctor her genitals after being subjected to the fifth and most severe type of FGM with her genitals completely removed. The stunned doctor asked if she had been burned. He could not believe that what had been done to her was deliberate, he assumed it must have been a horrific accident. But, it was no accident.

It’s for women like her that I started the AHA Foundation as a resource to help women and girls who are truly bridging the gap between worlds and cultures. They are living in the United States under the protection of our laws and Constitution but suffering human rights abuses imported from overseas.

The aim of FGM in all its forms is to control female sexuality. The clitoris is removed to take physical pleasure from sex and reduce the libido. In its more severe forms, involving sewing the genitals up, the aim is to ensure the girl is a virgin on her wedding night. Many women must be surgically re-opened (or simply with a pen knife or razor blade) in order to consummate their marriage.  The consequences of FGM are ongoing psychological and physical harms from infections to fistulas and even death…

Please read the entire article. Everyone should know what this is, and why the laws against it must be enforced. My belief is that the maximum punishment allowed for committing this crime should be increased. As I understand it, that is five years in prison, at this time.

    holy s***….or rather UNholy S***.
This is not a RELIGION. This is a pervert paradise where Parents are merely KEEPERS, not the protector and loving mother and father of children. This so called RELIGION is clearly not only SICK, but is TOTALLY incompatible with the Norms, Values, Laws, and Culture of America.

Now I want ALL of them gone…not for a religious reason, but to rid the nation of a pestilence….

Now I wan’t… Now and then I wish I had a big red button. Because I would actually struggle. Do I push it, and make them all “gone”? And by this do I mean dead? No.

All teleported with only their clothing and an “I engaged in Dawah and all I got was this lousy tee-shirt” shirt and a pair of skivvies to Saudi Arabia, all at once. Teleported into a formation, where they all have about a 3′ square of space.

And, simultaneously, all non-Muslims and slaves in KSA and the UAE get teleported to the aforementioned’s nice Western homes, and given all their possessions.

I haven’t calculated the area of 1.6B people standing 2′ in each direction from each other in a giant grid, but — can you imagine their surprise?

It would be quite fun to watch a digital simulation of that. I’m glad I don’t have the button.

You can create something like that now with your computer. Easy. (heh)

1.6 billion Muslims. When you teleport them, give them all melee and bladed weapons, too. And program them all with their various ideologies and beliefs. All their viciousness levels and their commitment to Islam. Then watch Chicago writ monolithic occur. We can do 25 thousand, now, with current PC processing power.

So far these games (there are a few) have only let you set up, say, 10 Special Forces soldiers defending a position against 25,000 giant penguins or zombies or whatever you can come up with in your twisted mind.

I can’t wait until these geniuses can program an Ultimate Epic Protest Simulator, but also include ideology, and internecine ideology, as well. You can almost do this now with UEBS. Watch the video, then imagine: protests. It’s a untapped goldmine for strategy games.

maybe we should Prick Mecca and Medina during Ramadan with a large A bomb and see if that also guarantees a lot of virgins and cleansed bodies…..vaporization will help this culture.

I feel, as a Christian, that it’s imperative that I argue with that sentiment.

It sure is difficult, though. So glad I don’t have the BRB.

as a Christian, I think we are told The Lord helps those that help themselves. It is ok with me to be forbidden to get into the Promised Land if the pestilence is cleaned out. Sodem and Gemhorrah were cleansed, and the Lord did that.

Thank you for posting this, stella. I was aware of the barbarity of FGM, but didn’t know some of the exact details that Hirsi Ali explains so well.

I expect many other people don’t know. So I’m educating them on twitter and gab.

I read Infidel, but don’t remember her being this detailed about FGM in it. General info, yes–specifics as to levels of, no.

Tomorrow, or, er, later today (after some sleep) I’ll go look through my totally unorganized Freedom Library I’m creating. I’ve read several books, written by victims.

It’s ugly, but just like with the head-choppers, etc. I feel we MUST know. It doesn’t take more than reading once regarding the extreme; but we MUST KNOW, in order to combat this!

          And, just where are the Feminists?!!!! {crickets}

I’ve known about it for years, Mary. Somehow I’m still sane.

Rusty can-lids and broken glass. No anesthetics. Uncles and cousins and brothers and other mals (sp) standing around, as if it’s a Bat Mitzvah, while she screams and bleeds and they drink and laugh. It’s quite an occasion.

      They’re insane.

They call it, (as muslims are wont to do, mis-appropriating Jewish and Christian terminology), female “circumcision”. Which, if these 7th century savages understood etymology, would understand that it doesn’t mean “cut off”, but “cut around” Jews did it to males for a reason, a very hygienic one, just like they didn’t eat pork before refrigeration was invented. In both cases because they wanted to continue living. And God commanded it. You know, because he wanted them to continue living.

I wonder to which level Linda Sasour the Left’s beacon of female empowerment is mutilated?

Sasour’s hatred of Ayaan Hirsi Ali is a cancer. Islam itself is a malignancy within humanity and it needs to be eradicated from the face of the earth.

Really, really wicked they are, at every level.

I knew it was barbaric also, but had not understood the different levels of torment and trauma.

All right folks, let’s put this into a perspective that will stretch the consciousness…how manynofvthese families are on Medicare/Medicaid and how many of these ‘doctors’ are jiggling the diagnosis, procedure and billing codes so that WE are paying for this butchery?

Who knows exactly. We only really know when victims come forward. I worked with Bridget Gabriel (ACT for America) 10 years ago, and got the removal of a Medical License of a male “dr.” (hate to even give them that credit) who was doing FGM then.

What we do know is these ciltural, practices here are illegal but whiners and apologists go into overdrive trying to explain the unexplainable. We know the Medicare/Medicaid fraud levels are unconscionably high so we have to be paying for at least some of these atrocities. Perhaps these genital cutters need a little cranial thumping or ass booting.

The progs are inviting folks in without having them leave their unacceptable cultural practices at home. This ‘accept me accept my culture’ crap is not making it, though I’m sure PETA will have to do some soul searching when they start slaughtering livestock and tossing it off of building roofs. Mutilating children is one thing but sacrificing cute livestock…that’ll raise some concerns.
