"No greater thing could come to our land today than a revival of the spirit of religion. I doubt if there is any problem — social, political, or economic — that would not melt away before the fire of such a spiritual awakening."

"We guard ourselves against all evils — spiritual as well as material — which may beset us. We guard against the forces of anti-Christian aggression, which may attack us from without, and the forces of ignorance and fear which may corrupt us from within."

"Today the whole world is divided between human slavery and human freedom — between pagan brutality and the Christian ideal."

"We face one of the great choices of history the continuation of civilization as we know it versus the ultimate destruction of all that we have held dear — religion against godlessness."

"As Commander-in-chief I take pleasure in commending the reading of the Bible to all who serve in the armed forces of the United States."

    — F.D.R.

For what it’s worth. He may be in Hell, and his administrations’ policies may have been the beginning of the downfall of the USA, but he actually said those things. And he was right. Maybe the Deep State preceded today’s Deep State. But Frank was right.

Mary, I know basic HTML (and BASIC, for that matter — 20 GOTO 10.). Sometimes I mess up and forget to close the tag. Usually when I have a few beers in me. Which I do.

I wish WP had an “edit” function, sometimes. Easy to mess up, easy fix. Oh, well.

Peyroux is today’s best female singer.

Has been for quite some time. Billie Holiday, Etta James, Ella Fitzgerald, all rolled up into one.

I wish I still had a double-decker organ with harmonic drawbars, a foot-pedal volume and one and a half bass octaves at my feet.

The one I grew up with occasionally picked up over-amped CB Radio traffic from the highway we grew up next to. Even when it was off. But who knew about EM shielding in the 70s?

All I know is that beans are good for your heart. The more you eat, the more you fart, and, as it happens, the more you fart, the better you feel. It occurs to me that you should eat your beans at every meal.

“It’s remarkable that the poem “First They Came” begins “first they came for the socialists,” because the socialists came first…

It wasn’t socialists who suffered, unless the socialists were students or cleanly and nobody knew them well; unless someone owed them money; unless they “looked Jewish” or managed a business or openly believed in aspects of classical liberalism. Russian cadets were thrown in jail or, one by one, into furnaces. Officers had their limbs broken and wrapped around their heads before they were murdered. Innocents were beaten to death for the sin of looking educated, and the entirety of Russia, hysterical with class hatred, convicted many “criminals” based on the softness of their hands instead of the record of their deeds.

But yes, first they came for the socialists.

Dog excitement this morning. I took Tucker out about 10:00 am, while two of the neighbor’s dogs were in their yard. There is a chain link fence between our yards. Harley, one of their dogs (about 60 pounds) found her way under the fence to visit Tucker, as one of the ties to the post is broken. No harm done, really, as she was friendly, but Tucker was a bit overwhelmed. He stayed on his back in the grass, very still, while being “examined”.

Harley was returned to her own house, but had to be carried out of my yard. Now Tucker knows there is a way to get under the fence. He also found a hole big enough for him to fit, so I have to watch him like a hawk, and I’m keeping him on a long lead until we get the fence repaired.

    Military intelligence is an oxymoron?

Russian intelligence ship collides with freighter and sinks. How does an intelligence ship not avoid a freighter? Sure it was foggy, but radar has been around a looooong time, and you’d think an intelligence ship would have radar.

If I read this right, it appears neither ship was supposed to be there. “When the collision took place, at 11.45 am (0845 GMT), the Bosphorus had already been closed to shipping because of the poor visibility, shipping agency GAC said.”

The Captain of that ship has some explaining to do. I bet he isn’t looking forward to it. 🙄

Russian ship…crew was probably drinking the antifreeze. Back during Cold War some Russian fighter aircraft used 100-proof alcohol as brake fluid. We used to watch the Red ‘not operationally ready’ charts and make beer bets on how many were ‘down’ due to the ground crews drinking the ‘brake fluid’.

Insulting Ivanka: Why the media are turning on the first daughter
    by Howard Kurtz

    http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2017/04/27/insulting-ivanka-why-media-are-turning-on-first-daughter.html

Why is there suddenly so much media hostility toward Ivanka Trump?

Her visit to Germany has unleashed a wave of insults and snarkiness that seems wildly out of proportion to what actually happened on the trip.

The short answer, of course, is that she is a target of animosity that is really aimed at her father.

But it goes deeper than that. Some pundits seem to blame her for not transforming the president’s policies, despite the fact that he’s the one who got elected. Even more strangely, some blame her for not speaking out against her dad.

During the campaign, when I happened to chat with her a few times, Ivanka was getting pretty good press. And why not? She is a poised and accomplished entrepreneur who handles herself with grace.

I get that it’s strange for Ivanka Trump to be a top White House aide, and that some people can’t accept that. She originally just wanted to be an informal adviser. But with critics raising conflict questions about her business, Ivanka decided to relinquish that role and take an office in the White House, working with her husband, Jared Kushner, whose role in the administration keeps expanding. (Neither is drawing a salary.) …

NOLA DA’s office has never had a rep for being above reproach. Local news is all over this and as DA and mayor are at each others’ throats I’m sure it’ll play out there too.
One pundit suggested their excuse will be that ‘the recipients should have realized the subpoenas were not court-ordered and recipients were not obligated to come in’, another that ‘if they had any doubts or questions they should have called’, but with the number of overturned convictions and violent cases/arrests refused for prosecution if you even get a birthday card from the NOLS DA’s office it’s best to treat it like an ingraved invite from Torquemada.

My husband, a tax lawyer pointed out something neat in Trump’s tax proposal. People will no longer get to deduct state and local taxes from their federal taxes..Hardest hit:NY and California.

If you think that’s unfair–consider this–the rest of us have been subsidizing California and NY when we allow residents of those states to deduct local payments.

Our Heavenly Father, Your children come to you tonight to ask for healing and peace throughout our country so that we may return to being One Nation Under God. Guide us to be leaders in Your Kingdom, spreading Your Love and Salvation to all. Forgive us our sins and deliver us from evil.

Lord, we ask for a blanket of protection over all our troops and law enforcement who serve to defend and protect us. Bless our representatives with the strength and wisdom they need to achieve the path You have chosen for us.

Please place Your Guardian Angels of Protection around Donald Trump and Mike Pence and their families as they seek to lead America back to You.

Grant us patience, Lord, as the evil ones try to anger us and cause us to fall.
Spread blessings over Israel and Netanyahu.

We humbly ask that You please comfort those who are grieving and in pain.
Thank you Father, for Your Love and the gift of Life.

Just a funny thing… we were sitting at the pub with some friends, having burgers and drinks. E turned to me and said “so how’s Tucker doing?”… and all I could picture in that moment was a handsome little white and brown puppy..so, senior moment, until the wheels creeked a bit and I realized she was asking about Turcker Carlson. Still chuckling… 🙂
