On the downhill side of the week kiddo’s. It’s an amazing time and place we live in right now. A POTUS who actually seems to want to do the right thing. We watch the opposition throw up their usual and customary slings and arrows and the seem to bounce right off of the man. He’s several steps ahead of his enemies, including the “press”. It’s a joy to watch this unfold in front of our eyes, in real time. I think most who visit these pages are well aware of what’s coming. We don’t always know exactly what or when, but we know it’s coming. It’s stressful, it’s tiring, but it’s a good tired when we lay our heads upon the pillow each night. Knowing we’ve got someone on our side for a change. The uni-party is not going to go quietly into the night, so we must be diligent, vigilant, and energetic. With that, it’s time to coffee up once again, y’all.

Tex!!!! It’s amazing, just amazing Pure political theater. I thought Watergate was a big deal, Clarence Thomas hearings, Bill (BJ) Clinton’s Impeachment……..and the RINOs need a break, Healthcare, and Tax reduction……..this has to be accomplished NOW. Oh and the coffee is good…….I’ll fill my cup, as the massive cloud of Red/Yellow enters my AO…….

You are right. But, I still get pterodactyls in my stomach as these things are happening. Pres. Trump has so many against him.and I can’t always see what his plan is. Heck, I rarely can see what his plan is. I just hope he knows who he can trust on this Assad mess. I don’t like being on the same side as McCain.

I think “we” or the Russians bomb a storage facility where this stuff was. OR this is one big set up. An incident like this happened in GW1.

I just don’t believe Assad did it. It doesn’t make sense. But, it makes sense that our war mongers (McCain, etc.) were upset when Trump said he was not going to go after regime change.

It’s almost unbelievable. You can make a video like this with a half-decent cellphone now. And you can attach it to the window of a train. In the 80’s if you were rich enough, you could make videos, but you held the device on your shoulder, and looked through and eyepiece, and it had actual moving parts. Lots of them. Then you played it on your VHS VCR, adjusted the tracking, then adjusted the horizontal hold on the TV.
We are blessed right now.

Interesting doc visit. I didn’t set it up, my primary care doc did on his own and, of course, with a corporate doc.
Doc was a ‘pain management’ specialist, I have a spinal stenosis that irritates me along with a bum knee. I have pretty constant pain, at most times it’s manageable but there are times when I have to put a freezer pack on my back/knee and bring it bsck to manageable. I can work thru it, I just have to pace myself and as no one’s paying me it’s all OK.
Doc cones in, reviews my records, starts suggesting it’s probably arthritis and when I tell him two different neorologists have confirmed it’s a stenosis he starts saying it might be but there could also be a compressed disk and arthritis in the spaces around the processes. I start looking for the door as it’s starting to feel uncomfortable when he pops out this brochure showing how they have a shiny new machine that burns and destroys sensory nerves so you don’t feel the pain. I mention my concern is that, until I find a procedure I’m comfortable with, the damages not get worse and the pain tells me the damaged area’s unhappy. “Oh no”, he says, “if we burn those nerves out you won’t feel the pain, or you won’t feel as much”. I take his little ‘set phaser on destroy’ brochure, cross my fingers and say “thanks doc, you’ll be hearing from me” and walk out.
Something tells me the shiny new machine isn’t paid for yet.

I was referred to a ‘pain control specialist’ (Freddie Kreuger with a degree) before I was referred to a spinal specialist. To me it’s that change of medical attitudes towards Medicare patients…11:59 the day before your 65th birthday they still look at you as a viable and potentially productive patient with good insurance. One minute after midnight and you’re a broken, aged meat puppet whose insurance can’t pay for the docs’s Jennifer’s whatever lift. Phew, I’ll wipe the sweat away….
I have bubba docs who’ll gladly write me scrips for five gallon pails of oxy but what I want is a surgical ‘fix’ with minimal side effects and Medicare won’t pay for that, their procedure has an uncomfortable possibility of adverse effects plus the real possibility of a loss of range of motion. To the docs that’s an acceptable outcome for a person of my age while to me, a person of my age, it ain’t.

When I went on Medicare, I lost my Chiro and gen. doc. Got new ones and then ins. changed and lost my gen. doc. again. That was no loss. I found out my chiro charges $100 a visit. I pay $20 of it as copay. Medicare/advantage ins sends them between 37 cents and $1.70 for the rest. And, then harasses them for more info that Medicare actually doesn’t require. 😦

Did I ever tell the story about my third c-section? The date was scheduled and I was having some labor pains so the timing was perfect. My personal doc got caught up and was a little late so we I was waiting for him to arrive with my husband in a room that had several other women in the beginning stages of labor.
Short story of my first two pregnancies, first pregnancy baby almost died, emergency c section was needed, second birth we tried for a V-bac (natural childbirth after a c section) I almost died, literally.
So a brilliant young doc still wet behind the ears looks at my chart and says “You know we’ve had successful natural births even after 2 c-sections.”
😐
I asked him to quickly remove himself from my presence.

I can remember a hospital back some years ago where, each year, there was a cluster of baby birthdays. Seems the OB/GYNs had a big yearly party conference so they’d induce labor on women questionably close to conference dates so there would be a bare minimum of deliveries during their party time.

Lucille posted a beautiful picture of the White Cliffs of Dover over on the Open Thread so I thought I’d share with you a beautiful picture of the White Cliffs of Montana.
On May 31, 1805, Meriweather Lewis wrote: “The hills and river Clifts which we passed today exhibit a most romantic appearance. The bluffs of the river rise to the hight of from 2 to 300 feet and in most places nearly perpendicular; they are formed of remarkable white sandstone which is sufficiently soft to give way readily to the impression of water . . ”
My family ancestors ended their covered wagon travels and settled just over the hill from the White Rocks of the Missouri Badlands. As a child, I spent many a Sunday climbing and playing among this spectacular landscape. My sister and I returned to visit a couple of summers ago and the miles and miles of White Rocks and Cliffs are as magnificent as I remembered them to be.

We had a fantastic electrical storm about 11:30 last night. Weird, but beautiful. Today is the 81st anniversary of the 1936 tornado that destroyed Gainesville GA, my birthplace ( and from my great Grandmother to my Grand-daughter). I’m glad the storm is over for now.

I never got a chance to respond to your video of the Gainesville Tornado damage back then. How terrible! I kept trying to imagine the lack of communication back then and think how much longer the clean up would have been back then. After the tornado I was in, it was odd to see the National Guard shoving the debris down the street to make a path – and most streets were cleared in a few days so you could get around. Gainesville? I can’t even imagine.
And yes, those electrical storms are incredibly beautiful, but not a good omen. I’m glad you came out of the storm in good shape!

There was a photo of my Grandpa in that video. My Mom said he didn’t come home for a few days, because all of the men in town gathered to rescue the injured and find the dead. One resident who was in college in California, saw it in the newspaper the next day. A telegraph had been dispatched.
FDR was going through town on his way back to D.C. the very next day, and toured the damage and promised to help the city rebuild. He returned 2 years later to attend the opening of the new courthouse!.
There is a newspaper headline from Atlanta that said there was 15 million dollars in damage. That was a lot of money in 1936. Not surprisingly, There were even some businesses back to work on the square in just a few days.
Gainesville has a museum with all the details, stories, photos, and even a Tornado simulator explaining how they are formed.
I’m proud of my hometown. It’s a really beautiful place with a lot of history, and it’s also known as “The Chicken Capitol of the World”!

It is very alarming to find out that our day to day private moments can be monitored by unknown government entities. Nothing is sacred anymore. When I was a kid my parents and aunts/uncles would talk about spooky black helicopters and things our government was doing and my siblings and cousins and I would all pooh-pooh it and laugh at their nutty conspiracy theories. We’re not laughing anymore. And we’re not paranoid if they are really watching, amiright???

I am not liking the direction of the things I am hearing about the Trump administration. It sounds like Jared and Ivanka are running a lot of the show. Ivanka was a registered Independent (read liberal) I don’t know about Jared. Ivanka’s maternal leave plan is certainly a liberal policy.
Rick Perry getting more power, Bannon getting less.
President Trump is a patriot but he also had/has a lot of far left beliefs about government. All in all better than Hillary and I still believe that President Trump has the ability to make positive changes in America and against the savages of Islam but I find the goings on, troubling.

This upsets me, too, because you know what would probably have happened if Nunes had shared the info with Schiff in the beginning. Schiff would have blocked him from seeing the info, or after would have found a way to block him from getting it out in the open, or just made it disappear. He would probably have told Nunes that it needed to stay within the committee until it had been “investigated” and then would have tried to move heaven and earth to keep anybody from ever finding it out. Yep. That is the scenario we would be looking at.

Just toured my old kitchen this morning. Quick inspection while getting my coffee. I don’t work there any more, but I know the whole staff, and they know I can walk in there like I own the place. I also know all the early-bird regulars, for whom I bussed two tables and wiped them. Then inspected my former kitchen. My jaw hit the floor, and I almost wept.
Apparently nothing’s been cleaned since I left two or more months ago.
The floor drains, 6″ white wells, are not white, they are black. The baseboard tiles haven’t been scrubbed since I left. Sick. It’s why I left. Nobody else cared about any of that. Maybe they all said, “I don’t get paid enough to care.” I never said that, even if it was true. And it was. There is a rubbermaid two-shelf rolling cart next to the dish station, with a mug rack and a glass rack on it. The waitress, sensing my consternation over the floor drains this morning, said, “Oh, but wait! There’s more! And picked up the glass rack from the cart. Wow. Just wow. The cart is, it seems, no longer being cleaned each evening.

He used to. Admittedly he’s spinning a lot of plates at the same time. One of his four restaurants is close by, and I talk with the Chef there and his manager quite a bit. Theirs is the cleanest restaurant in town. Telegenic, even. Bourdain’s television crew could come in there, and nobody would be embarrassed. I helped build it, paint it, and handle who knows how many board-feet of reclaimed barnwood, from picking it up at the barn still encrusted with “barn dirt”. All the trim, and all the bar-fronts and tops, and all the tables are made of this wood. I poly-ed each piece of wood seven times. I epoxied every table top four times, every six hours for two days. It’s not the cleanest restaurant in town just because it’s the newest-built one, but also because of those two people. They give a crap about image.
He told me this morning, (he knows I’m mulling it over) “Don’t come back. Don’t do it.”, out of respect. I left for a litany of reasons, and none of them have abated. And he’s close to leaving. And so is his manager. If the boss doesn’t care about his people and his brick-and-mortar, then why should we?
Former bossman is on his tenth vacay this year. Arizona, this time, I think.

Hmmm….. If he used to why did he let you go? Why did he not honor your work? It sounds like he used to manipulate you into believing he cared about the things he wanted you to think he cared about. In reality it sounds like he cared about the fact that you were doing the work of two people for less than he should be paying one person.
Two people you respect who work for him are thinking about leaving? There’s a reason for that.
As to feeling sorry for his current employees remember if you don’t have any oxygen it doesn’t matter how much you want to help them. They have the same free will that you have.

You might get the first, though it isn’t likely, and it’s doubtful he would ever give you much more later. The second is not going to happen. This is a man who does not respect good work ethic, he uses it. That isn’t going to change because he lost you, and it absolutely wouldn’t change if you went back.
I probably would have expanded my painting business and stayed in it more if I had encountered someone like you. I never paid anyone less than ten dollars an hour, I gave them breaks and do not deduct their lunch as long as it was just a half hour. Most I raised to twelve if they were halfway decent, and a time or two I paid people fifteen dollars an hour and gave them a couple hundred dollar bonus at the end of the job.
With two exceptions, none of them were worth it, and none of them stuck around very long. None of them were trained faux finishers, or even very skilled painters. One actually told me she was started her ow faux finishing business after working part time for me on one job about a month.
Anyhow, it would be good if bosses and employees who have the same values could hook up once in awhile.

Once I actually had a young man argue with me about talking on his cell, phone all the time while working. He told me he was working still, it didn’t affect his job and was none of my business! I told him I was paying for the use of both his hands and all his attention, take it or leave it. He was also meeting me at my house and I provided him transportation to the jobs, and he needed money so badly that he asked me to pay him every few days. He didn’t last long.

I can imagine there are a lot of bosses who would love to have you work for them. A private contractor built our house, mostly with his own two hands. He had a few guys working for him. He couldn’t count on them to show up. I know he kept one guy on longer than he should have because he felt sorry for him. I know for a fact he would have been thrilled with you.Unfortunately, I doubt he paid as well as you deserve.

Wooly, have you thought about painting, maybe part time in addition to your current work? You work nights and weekend, you could possible get into painting while keeping your current job.
Is there a market for faux finishes in your area? Are you something of a resort destination? Look into getting a job with a commercial painting contractor that does faux work. Learn it thoroughly, then later you could sideline, say doing cabinets on your own. I like cabinet painting best of all, and you can make good money at it. Also, you would be able to offer a more comprehensive service than I can, for example adding trim or some other carpentry work.
Something to think about anyhow.

Thank you all for the kind words and advice, which I will heed.
Menagerie, painting was what I was going to do if Chef hadn’t snapped me up, as I’ve done quite a bit, and (when I’ve had a beer) pretty good at it. Never done any finishing, faux or otherwise, besides poly-ing and epoxying barnwood, if that counts. I’m a quick study, though.
Late night, the restaurant did good tonight. One guy called in sick, so I did his job and mine, no problem. Quite fun.

Most republicans gain an inch and then the media and the democrats yells “You’re a terrible mean person who wants to kill Mother Earth, eat puppies and drown children.” Then the spineless republicans wet themselves and give the democrats 3 inches back to make up for their misdeeds.

He was such a good, kind, and generous man, and a good father to his 2 teenage children. At the first sign of trouble any number of those far more valuable personnel would throw themselves on top of President Trump’s Son-In-Law. Capitals for emphasis on whom the brass see as most important here.
Also notice tight focus, I’d like to see an aerial so that we can get an idea of where he REALLY is standing relative tomthe ‘work’ areas. Anyway, nice pic he can show his grandkids about where gramps was during the war.

I know he wears tailored clothes it just looks staged, which it is. His head is wide open and likely he is in a safe area but Czar is right he is flanked by real men. I know the chest is a larger target than the head but even a borrowed jacket from the Airborne crew would make it so a sniper wasn’t sure that Kushner was wearing a vest.
I’m going to try and get more information about Kushner this evening. My guess is he is a liberal. Some sources which may just be baloney sauce have Bannon calling Kushner a cuck and a globalist. I am beginning to get an uneasy feeling about Ivanka’s influence on her dad.

It would have been Hillary.

Syria worries me. I believe it would have been very foolish for Bashar al-Assad to gas his own people, given he was not in President Trump’s bully. Now Tillerson says the plans to take al-Assad are already in motion?
Talked to a vet friend and he doesn’t think it was al-Assad, watched several vets on Twitter, they don’t think it was Assad, read Sundance’s post and he brings up very valid points.
Trump is a nationalist and a patriot but he was lazy when it came to the meat of politics until the world was at the tipping point. I will go back to what I have always said about him, Trump believed that the one thing that Obama would do would be to help race relations to bring Americans together. No one who was engaged in politics thought a man who launched his campaign from a domestic terrorists house, no one who knew that Obama sat for 20 years in Rev. Wright’s church thought for a minute that Obama was anything but a racist American hater.
And remember Trump’s “The government should just take 15% of the wealth away from the very wealthy to help balance the budget 🙄.
I know the press lies all the time about Team Trump, I also know Bannon won’t be buffaloed by the likes of Kushner and Ivanka but I believe that President Trump trusts the judgement of Ivanka and Kushner implicitly and that worries me.

That is my whole point. It does not matter from a strategic point of view how the Sarin Gas was released or even why.
The world saw what whoever did it wanted them to see, dying and dead babies.
POTUS made a decisive, deliberate strike against a specific target. It was all projected. A lot of people have just seen the teeth of the tiger. We have been a nation paralyzed by an enemy president for 8 years, our enemies grew stronger and bolder.
President Trump could not say that this was more than crossing a red line and then follow in the inaction of Obama.
This does not drag us into the Syrian civil war nor does it drag us into war with Russia. This was a punishment for Syria breaking the chemical weapons agreement. A free punch as Scott Adam’s called it is the best description I have read.
