    Well, it’s certainly not been a boring few weeks observing the political landscape. It certainly appears as thought there aren’t many in DC who know how to take a punch. They’ve been giving them out a tad too long. It’s enjoyable to watch. But this bloodsport requires a strong Constitution (in more ways than one), and coffee. Lots and lots. Coffee up y’all. We’re not quite half-way through the week. 😆

      1994: Ma’s Coffee Pot on I-196 in South Haven Closes, because smoking was banned in workplaces. Nobody who frequented the place minded the smokers. They loved them, even. they were our octogenerian crop-dusters, truckers, cops, and late-night after-bar snackers.

      You could go there, 24 hours, and have a cup of coffee and a cigarette.

      Ma’s has weeds around it now.

        Sorry I didn’t get a chance to respond to this yesterday. I think a great cultural tradition went the way of Ma’s Coffee Pot back then. In smaller towns, farmers and locals would gather int he local diners in the morning as purely social events, as were the late night gathering of breakfast after bar groups. Literally a social tradition. What a damned shame that we’re more isolated because of that one stupid rule. Don’t see many roadside diners anymore – just tons of paper cutout chains with the same menus anywhere you go.

        It’s quite sad. Very ironic that many movie plots have at least a couple scenes in just the kind of diners we talk about. Sorry you lot Ma’s.

      I’ve been spending a lot of time in the barn and pasture, goats and cows don’t keep you up to date on the news, but I think they’re probably better company than politicians and media. 🙂

      With this will go not just history, but the character and soul of a people. My grandchildren and great-grandchildren, deprived of their history and heritage, will not have the same identity and values as their forefathers.

      Liberals are thinking, yes, they won’t be racist. Ha, they won’t be much but cookie cutter zombies if we old people let this happen to them.

      I have said this before, and it’s true. As a child, I always heard stories of this old woman or that one, very old even then, whose grandfather fought in the war. They sat on their knees and heard stories. In a way, the war was still alive. Reconstruction broke the back of the South, and my generation, my forefathers, we still felt that resentment, that prideful pain.

      Years ago I took a friend who moved here from Texas around to the Battlefield sites because he wanted to see, to try to understand why he encountered this place where a war fought over a century ago was so real to people.

        They don’t want to teach the children not to be racist, they don’t want them to know what a civil war does to a country and how close we came to losing our country. That way they won’t mind trying it again. Our country and our freedom are in deep peril right now. I feel it could go either way.

            The dog has been put down and my stitches come out tomorrow. The hole in my heart will never heal. I have been laying off internet posting because I was brutalized on FB for how I handled the situation. While I was on my way to the hospital, my neighbor came to my house to try and get the dog out. He too, was attacked, so he destroyed the dog. People on FB, including friends, blasted me for not taking the dog to the vet to have him put down. Not sure how we could get him in a car when he was trying to tear us apart. I will never be the same.

      Censoring history is not a way to deal with bad things that happened in history. Especially when you take into consideration that the war did not devolve in to guerilla warfare and the leaders during the war respected the other side after it.

      This is what happens when kids get taught screwed up history in school and when Leftists decide to ban something as part of their moral posturing and virtue signaling.

      It’s been a big thing on the news for a few days.
      Mayor is an unapologetic suck-up and the city’s demographics and ‘politics’ have changed post-Katrina. There’s a portion of the population that isn’t native American, has zero interest in the culture and history of the area and stands back from the debate. You also have a new group that’s moved in for the 24/7/365 party atmosphere and have various reasons for supporting the vocal revisionists.
      The city’s black and white political powers are balanced enough to where the liberal powers have an edge and the ‘old’ monuments (and to come, street names) have been an issue with the active liberal powers in the city for some time. It appears that the removal of the monuments is less of an act of moral outrage than a multipronged move of poltical action.
      The actors had an issue with one monument in particular, it used to be prominantly displayed on Canal Street, and sfter a fight it was relocated, in 1989, to a side street off of Canal. That was it until the Obamanauts decided to start redefining what was to be acceptable in a historical revisionist setting and the issue of monuments was fired up all over the South. The issue herebis seen as heavily tied to the mayor’s and his sister’s (ex-Senstor Landrieu) political careers more than any sense of moral outrage. He has been in office since 2010 and was well aware, being a native and son of a former mayor, of the Libery Place monument issue yet until the local historical revisionists decided to follow the national prompt and raise the monument issue he never msde a peep about them. Only after the local Rat factions started a move tonsee if they had enough political.power to force the city into an action did he put on the cloak.
      Next issue is going to be renaming streets and parks that have the names of any white Southerner who was alive during the Great Warbof Northern Aggression. A complete, if you’ll excuse the expression, whitewashing and whiteouting of American history.
      Meanwhile the base population of the city still struggles with poverty and illiteracy rates that rival sone 3rd world countries while their guiding lights and spiritual leaders feast off of the fat of the land. On a sidebar, the post-Civil War racist past of the city is firmly in the lap of the Democrstic Party, the Rats were the ones actively promoting black rights and voter suppression during and after Reconstruction. Then again, irony has never been a Rat strongpoint.

    I was just watching some of the videos of Judge Napolitano and Monica Crowley talking about the Deep State and how dangerous all of this is. I wonder if that might be another reason that Melania and Barron stayed in NY. Maybe it is safer there. Barron finishing up this year’s school is reason enough, but I just wondered if there was more.

      Maybe. But as far as I am concerned, Melania can stay wherever she wants. Liberals are beside themselves over it, but 1) I voted for her husband, not her, and 2) at least she’s not flying all over the world on taxpayer money.

      The problem with the Obamas is that I was so put out by their behavior all the time that I just can’t react to things anymore. Melania won’t move to DC? Well la da frickin da. How about some reporting on relevant news instead of angsting over what the First Lady is or is not doing?

OK, you could have picked it up in DC and Beltway bars deep into Happy Hour, on the DC buses, Metro and commuter trains, but other than that by just sitting back with some tea/coffee and a bacon sammich?

    Morning all! Here is your IDITAROD update. It’s cold. I mean really, really COLD. Killer cold. Frostbiting cold. Hard to breathe cold. It is -35 degrees and the wind is blowing. Yesterday Jesse Royer, a veteran musher from Montana, frostbit 3 of her fingers and is having a pretty hard time taking care of the injury while doing dog care. It is hard to even move in this kind of cold. It’s called Iron Winter.

    The front end of the race consists of about 10 mushers, of which Aliy is one and the only woman. They rotate holding the lead as they follow their pre-planned run and rest schedule. They have left the village of Tanana (TAN-a-naw) and are headed 120 miles downriver through absolute wilderness to the village of Ruby. The trail is all on the Yukon River which is 2-3 miles wide in many places and the wind can be fierce. Aliy is planning to do it in 2 six-hour runs with a long rest in the middle. I’ll be interested to see who takes their mandatory 24-hour rest at Ruby.

    I’m concentrating on cooking this afternoon, rather than politics. I roasted three huge beets, and made a beet and red onion salad (with balsamic). Also made a starter for ciabatta rolls to bake tomorrow. Resting on the counter for 20 hours or so …

    I’ve been reading Sundance’s comments next door, and not wanting to undermine him publicly when things are very delicate, but I do want to discuss a few things a bit more in depth, if anyone is interested.

    I think he’s very much mistaken and misguided in fighting for the 3-step repeal and replace process, and preserving the 60-vote filibuster.

    1.) The 3-step process is required because of the need to use reconciliation.
    2.) Reconciliation is required because passing bills in the Senate needs to overcome a filibuster, needing a cloture vote of 60+.
    3.) The 60 votes for cloture are needed because of Senate rules enacted in 1917, and have nothing what-so-ever to do with the Consitution.

    I get that Sundance wants to preserve the 60 vote requirement for overriding a filibuster, for purposes of civility and for the inevitable times when we are no longer in power. All things being equal, I think that is a commendable goal.

    However, all things are not equal. The Constitution was pissed on by Clinton, torn asunder by GW, and the pieces burned by Obama. The left has absolutely and unequivocally declared war on all things moral, decent, true, holy, and conservative. They do not currently, and have not for a long time, believed in the rule of law. They believe in the rule of themselves, and justify it by their twisted sense of entitlement and their belief in the progressive arc of history.

    These people are literally insane, and they are literally fomenting violent revolution, the extermination of anyone who doesn’t believe the way they do, and the overthrow of the Constitutional Republic, which they will overthrow and replace with a fascist police state, all the the name of opposing fascism. They have started riots. They have attacked innocents. They have burned buildings and property. They have dressed in uniforms and carried signs proclaiming that this is, in fact, war. In the name of free speech, (and on two college campuses that claim to espouse free speech) they physically attacked a gay jew for being anti-semtic and gender-oppressive, and professor (who denounces conservatives, by the way) because he wrote a book 30 years ago that postulated that IQ and intelligence have a genetic component.

    And yet, we want to pretend to if we but don’t implement our agenda in a Constitutional manner, and preserve a meaningless rule that is completely arbitrary, that somehow, if we’re ever in the minority again, we can depend upon their good graces and sense of historical decorum that they’ll let us stop anything they happen to desire because we can claim a holy filibuster???!?!?!!!???!!?!?!?!!?!

    And as a side effect of nonsensically pretending that preserving this magic filibuster is a worthwhile goal, we now have to cede the initiative and rely upon the individuals who have betrayed us not once, not twice, not three times, but over four elections and the last 21 years, and think that this time will be different? This time those guys who claim to be our enemies, and keep stabbing us in the back, just as the scorpion did the frog, that this time it will be different???!?!?!

    Does anyone else see a problem with this plan?

    A Hillary election win would have guaranteed a civil war in less than a year. There could be no other rational response to the attempts to prevent the sale of ammunition and the undermining of the second amendment. A Trump win gave us the possibility of avoiding civil war, but not the certainty. I don’t think this is any time to be ceding anything to anyone, and certainly not to Paul Ryan.

    There is still much blood and pain to be suffered in payment of our national sins. This isn’t going to mitigate that. It is going to demand more blood and pain be offered, not less. Trump isn’t a perfect guy, he’s going to make mistakes. I’m OK with that. I think he needs to be redirected when he does make them. He’ll learn. But this particular mistake I suspect will cost him everything, including his Presidency. He won’t lose the office, but he’ll lose all power and the ability to make anything else happen, which amounts to the same thing.

    God, please look after us, and your servant Donald Trump. Help him navigate the nest of the brood of vipers, and turn our nation back towards you. May God bless the United States of America.

      I’ll say this. If (and it’s an IF) the Republicans are able to change the rules and repeal Obamacare on 51 votes, you are opening the door to all kinds of future mischief, when Republicans no longer control the Senate, and it will be sooner rather than later.

      Be careful what you ask for, and don’t condemn without more thought about this.

      In addition, cooperation on future legislation, and public support, will be lessened.

        I hear you, Stella, and I understand. I just believe that it is the biggest mistake of Trump’s life, and of Sundance’s.

        If there comes a point when Republicans no longer control the Senate, and we have not imprisoned Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, George Soros, and about 25,000 other co-conspirators in D.C., and if the swamp is not fully drained by that point, then the filibuster won’t matter. 40 votes won’t save us.

        The Constitution died under GW’s watch, when he killed it at the same time he killed the free market to save the free market. Obama well and truly buried it with Obamacare.

        We’re in a war, not for freedom, not for independence, not for liberty, justice, truth, or to make America great again. We’re in a war for survival. Battle is, in fact, joined. Hillary is rumored to have said that if Trump wins, they all die. The left always, always projects. If they ever win again, we do all die. There will be no dawn, and there will be no justice, and there will be no Constitution.

        There is no magic dirt that turns refugees and immigrants into new citizens full of civic virtue, willing to defend our ideals, morals, and the proposition that we were all created equal in the eyes of God.

        There is no magic filibuster that will save us if we do not drain the swamp and build a new keep over it.

        If we lost the election, it was over. Winning the election didn’t win us anything. It just gave us more time to fight. The fight has not changed, merely the battleground. There can be no retreat, no surrender. Katie bar the door, because this is for all the marbles. We win, survive, and eliminate the enemy at this juncture, or we lose, and we are eliminated ourselves.

        Sucks, but that’s how it goes in a civil war. We didn’t start it, but by God, we had better end it, or else.

          How do you intend to imprison Obama, Clinton etc? That can’t be done by Congress. It could be done by the DOJ, assuming there is sufficient evidence. It has nothing whatever to do with Congress.

          I think you are wrong, and I think it is because you are coming from a place of emotion, rather than reality.

          Yes, the 60 vote limit means something, and changing it to win a vote could cost Republicans the Senate completely next year. It could also cost Trump a loss of public support. Your insistence that we change the vote to a simple majority may be what causes us to lose the battle.

          ADD: The worst thing that could happen is that the simple majority vote occurs, and we lose anyway. Then we have lost the whole ballgame. That is a very real possibility.

            That is truly the only reason for the discussion, and it is also the reason I haven’t made any comments on the Tree House.

            As for the rest, there is plenty there to imprison both Hillary and Barack already, between the server, Benghazi, FISA, etc. It will take a messy court battle, some extreme political will, and probably armed troops dispersing riots, but it is something that needs to happen, should happen, and would be absolutely just.

                Right, prosecution has nothing to do with Congress. It is just one of those things that needs to happen, in a very public manner. If those people listed aren’t in prison, exile, or dead by the time we lose control of the Senate, then the likelihood of each one of us dying in a prison or on the streets rather than home in bed with family goes up approximately 1000%. At that point, we will have lost the ability to make any changes, and the deep state and globalists will be unchecked, and we will lose.

                You’ve linked the Monica Crowley video discussing that this really is a WAR. Full tilt, no-holds-barred, war. She is absolutely correct, and I don’t think there are that many would even argue that point. It is a civil war, that so far hasn’t involved gunfire exchanges in the streets. It probably will, but hasn’t yet, and with the grace of God won’t.

                The thing that is killing me inside, is the refusal of our team to actually fight that war. We aren’t going to win this war by exchanging pleasantries over cigars and brandy in the library, and it is useless to pretend that we will.

      Am understanding your position. Public support is what needs to be seen and heard, imo. The supporters far outnumber the anarchists.

      Lessening people’s cycnicism and giving people a reason to feel hope and joy again seems to be our job. Pres Trump’s instincts have so far been fairly reliable. Sometimes, one just need trust again.

One can think they are bestowing unearned trust in the name of charity, friendship, etc., but ti isn’t trust that they are giving. They are instead trying to grant forgiveness and mercy to someone who is unrepentant. Forgiveness and mercy must and shall always be granted to the penitent, but by definition cannot be granted to the unrepentant. Instead they are giving power and creating their own victimhood.

              Employer-based health insurance plans are impacted by Obamacare – what must be covered, who must be covered, limits of coverage etc. Including laws about all employers with a certain number of employees must supply health insurance, no pre-existing condition limits, no maximums etc.

                  There would be legal issues, certainly, but most Americans wouldn’t lose their insurance. At least not immediately.

                  The subsidies would instantly cease and would have never been for this year, which may affect individuals’ ability to pay for their coverage. The money given by the feds to insurance companies to provide coverage over the exchanges would instantly cease, and that may also cause revocation of policies issued on the exchanges due to failure to pay, or even failure of the insurance companies.

                  That may then snowball back to all insurance providers. That would be ugly and messy too. Certainly lots would lose coverage. Probably more than 50% of the country would. Sundance may have been using hyperbole to make his point.

                  Honestly, I’m not at all certain that isn’t the best thing to have happen. We shouldn’t be fixated on providing health coverage for Americans anyway. Repeal EMTALA, repeal all the medical monopoly crap, and start prosecuting the medical orgs that don’t list prices, and don’t charge the same price for all, and suddenly the cost of medical care will drop ~90%, overnight. Then everyone can go without coverage, and still be better off. We might even be able to get back to a real “insurance” system again, and not the socialist ponzi payola scheme we have now.

                    I look at the loss of insurance coverage from the political point of view, more than the problems for some people who really need their insurance, although that is an issue too.

                    If you are a cancer patient in the middle of a treatment course and you suddenly lose your insurance, would that upset you? Or if it was your wife, or mother or grandmother? Another thing that you may not have considered is that hospitals and doctors sometimes won’t treat a patient even if they are able to pay. That happened to my ex-husband who had cancer and no insurance (he was too young for Medicare, and not able to be covered under Medicaid, although he was broke and unemployed (single male). His friends and family raised the money for surgery, but the hospital wouldn’t allow it because he had no insurance. Don’t ask me why – maybe because he had no cash safety net. Of course he got hospital care, because they can’t refuse to treat a patient with palliative care.

                    ADD: He died, by the way.

      I agree with keeping the 60 vote level, if for no other reason than it underlines democracy. If one party’s doctrine can’t attract enough support to grab 60 seats then 60 percent of the body should show where the interest of the electorate is. Then we can talk civil war.
      Anyway, the limited ownership of ammunition line was first brought up during the Clinton administration. The call was for household to be forbidden to own over 1000 total rounds of ammunition without a special Federal license. That license would have had to have local approval, an inspection, require storage facilities built to Federal standards and would have put most shooters in a real bind. Progs learned long ago that gun control was nowhere near as effective as ammunition control.

        I disagree vociferously that it underlines democracy. I’m not going to get into an argument over republic vs. democracy either. 60% majorities just don’t have anything to do with a democracy, with our republic, or with our Constitution, and very little historically. They’ve been a part of the Senate for roughly 1/3rd of the time we’ve had a Senate. There isn’t anything keeping that 60%, other than our naivete, and the good will of the enemies currently burning down the house. If you’re at a point where you have to trust the guys burning down the house, then you’ve already lost in every meaningful way it is possible to lose.

    There’s always another side of the story that you just won’t get from the MSM. Remember the father of that Navy Seal who died in Yemen who blasted Trump? Here’s a bit from an email I received from a close friend of family: the latest news story coming out about Ryan’s father and his wanting to press charges against the Pentagon for it’s mishandling of the mission. I wonder if the press will ever bother to check their facts and discover that Ryan had not had a meaningful relationship with his father in many years. His parents divorced when Ryan was five, and his dad has been married multiple times since then. His dad refused to talk to Trump when he came to the airport. He has been a non Trump supporter all along. Jill said that Carryn’s family described him as being rude, standing back, apart from the rest of the family, when Trump and Ivanka came to comfort the family. He didn’t bother to listen to anything Trump had to say about the raid.

    Jill said that this negative news story, coming out at this time about the mission, will devastate Carryn. All she wants to do right now is grieve and have some time alone with her children. She said Ryan would be turning in his grave at his father’s sudden “interest” in his son’s life. One has to wonder what his motivation is for this attack on the Pentagon.

    Just one more addition to my email. I spoke with Jill again. She just heard from Carryn that she and and her parents are going to Trump’s Address to Congress tonight. She hates being in the public like this, but she is doing it to honor Ryan.
