The photo is of the “Teatro Antico di Taormina” near Taormina, Sicily, with Mount Etna in the backgrouind. I would definitely recommend a visit to Sicily, preferably in the spring when the wildflowers and trees are in bloom and it’s not too hot.

Thank you, Col . Rain IS letting up some, but more is predicted. However, considering how little weather of any kind we’ve had during the last several drought-filled years, the weather folks are out of practice. So I’ll expect anything and everything.

Hope you house has a foundation, not piers. The reason is after years of hot dry weather, then rain, the soil expansion may cause those piers to move.
Now Czar would know more about this, his background is engineering…….

All-things-computer okay for the moment. Sooooo, I’ll post this for input, primarily from the Catholic folks here (esp. Menagerie). Do you know anything about this issue? About this site? Any comments? On first reading, it seems inflammatory…

The Two Foundations.
24
* “Everyone who listens to these words of mine and acts on them will be like a wise man who built his house on rock.r
25
The rain fell, the floods came, and the winds blew and buffeted the house.s But it did not collapse; it had been set solidly on rock.
26
And everyone who listens to these words of mine but does not act on them will be like a fool who built his house on sand.
27
The rain fell, the floods came, and the winds blew and buffeted the house. And it collapsed and was completely ruined.”
I don’t think Francis has much of a foundation. I think he is a spiritual and intellectual lightweight, and he is swimming over his head. He is being used, by those both within, and without the Vatican. It seems to me he is both a prideful and spiteful man, and that makes his shortcomings even worse.
I have read articles from this site before, and it seems solid from my not too great experience with it. I avoid the angry sites, the ones that sound like Ann Barnhart. You speak of inflammatory, and many of them are. I don’t know whether this is truth or not, but I don’t find it inflammatory to question the actions and words of this pope who has given us so many things to question. To me, inflammatory is often in the tone and presentation, not the questions.
Evangelization is the work of every Christian. If the words I become known for are those full of hate and anger and rage, scorn and pride, where is the value to one on the brink? I have dabbled across this line myself, and find it a miserable place. I don’t want to take up residence there.
Nether do I want to hide from the truth. The Church has a two thousand year history that has withstood a shaky start with the first pope, who denied Jesus three times, and went on to suffer some really bad guys who didn’t get it together like Peter did. The Catholic Church is led by Jesus Christ. Sometimes his Vicar leaves much to be desired.
I also suspect that Francis intends to do just exactly what he is doing, sew confusion and dissent. Even he cannot, he CAN NOT change dogma, so he tries to muddy the waters, such as he has with the divorced receiving communion issue, knowing that disobedient bishops will run with this, just as they did with illicit practices after Vatican II.
He can’t change truth, so he will change customs. And may God have mercy on his soul for the ill he does to the ignorant.

The papacy is a complex institution. It is so much more than just a man. February 22 was the Feast of the Chair of Saint Peter. I won’t even try to go into the meaning and complexity of this Holy Office we Catholics hold dear.
But contrary to what so many believe, it is not about the man. It is thankfully, so very much larger than that. Just as it is easy to see the damage this pope is doing to his flock, so also is it easy to step back in time and look at what Saint John Paul II did not just for the Church, but the world. It was tremendous his impact, and most don’t even begin to know the extent of it.
I believe that the greatest gift he brought to the world started in the mid 1920s when a 20 year old Polish woman entered the convent. The work Jesus set before her would not come to fruition until many years after her 1938 death, and it would take a Polish pope, familiar with St. Faustina’s passionate teachings of the Divine Mercy of Jesus.
The likelihood of a Polish pope? I remember, no one outside Italy had been pope for hundreds of years. I don’t know where we are going to end up with Francis. I don’t know the reason we are stuck with him, other than the apartment apostasy of so many cardinals in the Church. So, I remember the work Jesus set out for one obscure nun in remote villages in Poland, and if I remember right, what became parts of the Soviet Union. 62 years after her death, The pope declared the first Divine Mercy Sunday, the Sunday after Easter.
So, Wooly, just as much as we can look through history and see the depravity of evil that some popes exercised, so also can we look back and find the miraculous and blessings among those who truly chose Jesus, and submitted, as is wholly the purpose of their office, to Him. Even to popes, He gives free will.

I have been Catholic for about 25 years. I made a conscience choice to join the church. My opinion of Pope Francis is that he is to the Catholic Church what Obama was to America. Pope Francis for all his promotion of “peace” seems to focus a lot of vitriol on his own flock.
Pope; It’s better to be an atheist than…
“There are those who say, ‘I am very Catholic, I always go to Mass, I belong to this and that association,’” the head of the 1.2 billion-member Roman Catholic Church said, according to a Vatican Radio transcript.
He said some of these people should also say “‘my life is not Christian, I don’t pay my employees proper salaries, I exploit people, I do dirty business, I launder money, (I lead) a double life.’”
“There are many Catholics who are like this and they cause scandal,” he said. “How many times have we all heard people say, ‘If that person is a Catholic, it is better to be an atheist.’”

Also for Pope Francis potryal of himself as such a simple man I find his perpetual pokes at the Church and her flock couched in what appear to be charitable words and self chastising words, eerily Sorosian and Obama like.

In the video, the very first sentence is a lie, and a complete inversion. That’s where I hit “pause” on the video, because I was so gobsmacked.
“There is a very sinister organization trying to worm its way into our ranks.”
The alt-right wants no part of your ranks. Kinda why it exists, numbskull.

Think about the term I bolded: Noble Defeat.
Conservative: “Yup, we lost. But we have the moral high ground. So there.”
The alt-right is sick and tired of losing just so we can preen and hold our heads high.
We’re tired of bringing a feather pillow to an M1-A1 Abrams tank-fight.
SABO is alt-right. The winning team goes on the offense. Conservatives have played defense for far, far too long.
I just yelled out “Whassup, Honkey!” to a black dude who was bringing some garbage to the dumpster. He stopped in his tracks, and looked up at me with, well, something, in his eyes. In three minutes I easily had him laughing at the absurdity of being offended, and I’m pretty sure we’ll be friendly acquaintances, if not friends. Never seen him before in my life, but he works for my former bossman of 9 years, and I helped to build the place he works in.
Life got more fun when I stopped giving a crap about offending people, and when I started doing so just to provoke thought. Haven’t been punched in the face, or stabbed or shot yet.

That’s painting with a very broad brush. Not all Conservatives say that. The Alt-Right comes across as applying the term Conservative to everyone who claims to be on the Right who isn’t them. Maybe they don’t intend it but that’s what I see happening. Either you are in with the cool kids or you’re not, and if you’re not, then you are as bad as the enemy. Maybe that’s intentional, maybe it’s not. But I’m tired of seeing it.

Yup, I’m done with the RNC, the GOP, and CPAC.
Not just crazy, but ludicrous, over-the-top-stoopid crazy.

I wondered how jihadists might react to the death of the “Blind Sheikh”. Well, here’s one report:

“…violent revenge…”
Well, that sure is a departure from their normal, usual peaceful mode. NOW, they want to get violent. That’s new for Muslims!

and “…Al-Qaeda…”?
I thought they were destroyed by Obama when he morphed them into IFIS?
Or is it IFIL?
Syria, Levant. Does it matter? They’re Islamic F**ks.

I’m asking you to curb your language, using your own adult self control. If you have lost it, please find it. I am NOT your mother, or your teacher, or the police.
I provide this blog as a pleasant place for us to discuss issues. You know better, so knock it off.

Really (about the column/stick)? I would have thought it was just the opposite!

Imagine your head is an orange with a toothpick in it.
If the toothpick is stuck into the back of the orange, and you pull back on the joystick (down), what does your head do? It looks up.
Works the same with horses and bridles. Pull back, the horse looks up.
In videogames (especially those involving flight mechanics, or camera angles), you can go into an options screen and reverse this behavior.
Reversing this behavior sticks the toothpick in the front of the orange (your head). Then, pull back on the joystick (down), and the head looks down.
I prefer the former. Pull back, you go up. It’s the only thing that makes sense to me, spatially.

Thank you for that. I admit that I am not feeling particularly kind and good natured this evening. Had a run-in with an idiot on Facebook earlier. Was forced to block her.

Some of you may already know this, and I’ve read it before, but this just blows my mind. President John Tyler (1841-45), born in 1790, still has two living grandsons. 😯

This is a thin connection, but speaking of government payouts, Jesse Jackson Jr. is pulling in a cool $138000 a year in payments… after going to prison…. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-4253354/Jesse-Jackson-Jr-gets-138K-year-federal-government.html

I did know it, and it doesn’t surprise me. Two of my great grandfathers fought in the Civil War. My maternal grandfather was born in 1867. Granted, not as surprising as Tyler, but when you are a child born late to a child born late, you can skip at least one generation. All of my cousins except one were 20 years or more older than I am. My brother was 21 years older than I am, and my sis was 18 years older. My oldest nephew is 10 months younger than I am. It seems odd that my mother would be 110 if she were still living.

My paternal grandfather was my father’s father. Imagine! 🙂 Anyway, he had a “girlfriend” when he was almost 90.

That woman who is still receiving her father’s Civil War pension? She was born when her father was 83.

Harrison R. Tyler spent his career as a chemical engineer and businessman, eventually selling his company for more than $400 million, says William Tyler. The Richmond Times Dispatch reported that the company, ChemTreat, was sold for $435 million in 2007.
Tyler noted his dad’s generosity.
“Over 100 of his employees made a million dollars,” as a result of the financial structure of the company, William Tyler says.
I got a $25 Meijer gift card after 9 years of loyalty.
Oh, well.

lilbirdee12’s prayer:
Our Heavenly Father, Your children come to you tonight to ask for healing and peace throughout our country so that we may return to being One Nation Under God. Guide us to be leaders in Your Kingdom, spreading Your Love and Salvation to all. Forgive us our sins and deliver us from evil.
Lord, we ask for a blanket of protection over all our troops and law enforcement who serve to defend and protect us. Bless our representatives with the strength and wisdom they need to achieve the path You have chosen for us.
Please place Your Guardian Angels of Protection around Donald Trump and Mike Pence and their families as they seek to lead America back to You.
Grant us patience, Lord, as the evil ones try to anger us and cause us to fall.
Spread blessings over Israel and Netanyahu.
We humbly ask that You please comfort those who are grieving and in pain.
Thank you Father, for Your Love and the gift of Life.
In Jesus name, we pray. Amen
