Well, went and done it, bought Czarina one of those Mossberg cutdown 22-gage shotguns, one of the new ones thst’s just 1/2-inch shy of requiring a Federal tax stamp to own. For general around-the-farm use it beats trying to get her to carry a pistol and it’s not only harder to misplace but doesn’t take a lot of concentration to use.
One could huff and say that we should move back to the city where we have a ready police force to respond to our 911 calls, especially as NOPD doesn’t measure response time on a calendar as much now. That said, considering the record numbers of shootings the city’s having this year, wild pigs, coyotes and the occasional poacher/trespasser out here I’d still expend less ammo than I would in the city.

its about $50 a pop otherwise.

I’m done with chains except those that hook on my tractor to pull weekenders out of muddy fields. We see a light dusting of snow maybe once every ten years or so.

That was us, until this year. Damn I was surprised my snow shovel wasn’t all melted or ?? It sure is hard digging out a drive way knee deep in snow twice in one week. Second time I was doing it in -1 to 3 degree weather so I could get to work.
The place where the snow was piled up due to the snow plow was the worse.

True story from when I lived in Fresno in 2003.
My car got stolen & without really thinking I dialed 911(yes I know not a 911 call) When I came to my senses the 911 number had already rang about 9 or 10 times. H3LL I didn’t dare hang up for fear they would come busting in my front door. Well 5 mins later someone finally picked up the phone. Yes I looked at my watch after another 1/2 dozen rings. If it had been something other than my car, I could have just kissed my life good bye.
I live in the country now. I own two…one I carry & one by my bed. But, it don’t matter where you live guys, the average response time for police is 5 plus minutes. Do you realize what can happen in 5 minutes.

I’m a deputy…wife steps outside one morning to go to work and her car’s gone. I call NOPD to report it and they say they’ll send someone out sonetime that day to take a report. I say I’m a deputy and would like it found…thry tell me to go find it myself.
Short story…her cell was in the car, I call cell company and get last number called. I go to area that call was made to and fond her car…wrecked. I look into car and there’s blood and hair all over the inside front so I get NOPD and NOPD crime lab to come out. Crime lab looks at car, there was a small ditch between crime lab van and the car, and says something to the effect of “you called me out here for a stolen car and you expect me to walk thru a ditch!” And that ended that.
We lost our deductable on the claim and the crime lab could get back to the donut shop,on St Chsrles where they hung out.

Rest of story is that the kid modt strongly suspected of stealing the car was untouchable even though he does it regularly. Seems his mama was ‘keeping time’ with someone of rank in the PD and a close relative was highly placed in city government. Little car thief was also in line to be on the PD, hand made by his mama’s mambo partner. Somedays only the bad guys win.

Yesterday my twin told me that her younger son is going to a Mardi gras ball. He made friends with some established locals and it is a thing with them. 🙂

They’re fun, I used to work a few as details. They are social things that are part of a Mardi Gras krewe’s year-round activities, some even sell seats as fund raisers. Now that Mardi Gras has moved from a local social event to an international drunkfest and the megakrewes with international members are taking over it’s getting too expensive for many. A lot of old time local krewes have disbanded as it just takes too much money now.

I’m not gonna huff. I’ve…had problems with counting on police since I had to read a case for school where the police were aware of the crime but did not even attempt to rescue the victims.
When seconds count, the police are just minutes away…if they’re coming at all.

A guy with mental instabilities greater than mine was living in an apartment next to me about ten years ago. I listened to him literally screaming his fool head off (as I have been wont to do in darker times in my life) and poked my head outside my apartment door, just to listen. He was ranting to nobody and God and the sky about his money which was in escrow from his deceased father, because he was crazy, and he couldn’t access it. Very loudly. He poked his own head outside his apartment door just as I was leaning out into the hall to listen to his yelling. I ducked back inside. A half-hour later he was jiggling my locked doorknob. I called the police.
Po-po took me away, not him. Seems I had a warrant out for failure to appear before a judge. Twice. They took me four counties away, even involving a transfer from one jurisdiction to another. They stuck my nerd butt in a holding cell with a bunch of Latinos (nice guys, actually) because they kept the whites and the Latinos separate from the blacks. I was the only person in the cell that wasn’t comfortably at home there, and who didn’t know the jailers by first name. I didn’t sleep that night. It is and will remain, God willing, my only experience in a cell. Shirtless dudes with MS-13 tats sleeping, stretched out, like it was their home.
Whoops. I had broken a window (big huge window at a welfare office because they wouldn’t give my whiteness any assistance so I threw some pea-stones from the walkway back at the building in rage) 6 years prior, which I’ve since paid for, but I learned that I should deal with people myself. I don’t call them any more, unless it’s a dead body.
Judge was black. Everyone in the courtroom was black. I thought he was going to “represent” to his peeps and crucify me. He didn’t. Lots of gratitude.
The guy who was trying to get into my apartment was found dead, naked, with a laptop on his chest about six months later. I remember giving his mom a cigarette, because she really needed it. She was wailing about her kid’s heroin dealer.
Life is strange.

Thing is thst most people have no idea how many cops are actually out there protecting you on any given shift. When PDs give out figures they usually say how many cops TOTALLY are assigned to that shift, not how many are our feet-on-street. Some are on leave, some on other duties or in court, more than a few are warming a desk…they don’t really want to say how many are actually available to answer a 911 call.
Then you have the paperwork. Each call requires paperwork, and if there was an arrest or some physical force then the amount of paperwork increases exponentially. Sometimes you get overtime to complete it, sometimes you do it on your own time but generally you are required to make time during your shift. Thst means even fewer officers to work calls.
At one point NOPD was taking over a day to respond to routine calls and you could cook a meal and do a load of laundry waiting for them to respond to a 911 call.

Paperwork.
Read an autobiography of a retired Texas Ranger, who went into a bit of history of the Rangers.
Ranger paperwork used to be minimal to non-existent, but eventually they were required to fill out incident forms. One of the boxes was, “disposition”, in which one Ranger wrote, “Mean as hell. Had to shoot him.”

Naw, she’s got a sawed off 18″ 20-g but I couldn’t cutbthe stock back due to how it was fixed to the receiver. Mossberg makes this from scrstch so it never had a stock attached, it can thusly have a 14-inch barrel and pistol grip while being 1/2-inch over the minimum overall length for ATF ‘any other weapon’ status. I figure using the 2-1/4 shells with just 6 pieces of buckshot she’ll be able to dissuade most anything if the need comes.
LikeLike
Check out Bond Arms in Texas. They make a derringer type revolver that can be chambered in different calibers one of which is 45/410. Perfect carry weapon plus
is safe.

Yah, I’ve seen ’em but she has choice of Glocks or Walthers if she wants to carry, this is for around the farm. Much easier to deal with a pig or some coyotes that suddenly materialize by sending a load of buck their way and the intimidation factor of what looks like a sawed-off entry gun as opposed to just a pistol is greater. She’s also doesn’t have a great deal of experience being on the business end of a gun so that ‘one pull, six pieces of shot’ scenario plays better too.
LikeLike
I hear you. Just thinking with a Bond in .410 would be like carrying a double barrel on one’s belt or pocket. I realize 410 doesn’t have the hit power of say a 20 but most of the time it’s the intimidation or the first round that counts. And being a lever action safe and easy to use. 😊

I’ve been carrying so long it’s second nature. I forget that I’m carrying a lot of times, it’s like just a regular piece of clothing. If you do it right the concealed piece doesn’t print and no one knows you’re carrying.
I liked it when the state passed the open carry law, it gave pitential robbers something/someone to focus on while CCW foljs got to their guns. Just like I posted earlier this week some .clown walks into a cellulsr store to rob it…only problem fir him was there was a CCW holder in the store he didn’t know was there… lights out.

At first I was very conscious of it, now I often forget to take out when I go into church…that is the one place it doesn’t feel right, even though there are several there that do carry in the church.
Once when I realized I forgot to put it back in my purse. I guess I lifted it too high out of the middle bucket in my car, cause the look on the pedestrian passing by my car was really something.

It’s okay to carry in church, kin. In fact, it’s more than okay. Don’t forget the recent jihadi threats against churches.

Just think of the thousands of Christians of various sects the Moslems have slaughtered, many inside their churches. The idea that if God was really there and cared he’d send down a lightening bolt of host of angels to smite the murderers is a self-serving arguement by atheists to justify their disbelief. And the idea that being murdered inside of a church gives you some special ststus is equally ‘out there’.
Under the reign of nuts and Moslems churches have become a target rich environment, and if God didn’t like uou carrying a defensive tool insidebof His house he could send down a lightening bolt…
Mississippi just passed a law making it legal to carry in church if the church will allow it. Synagogs too, especially with the surge of potential Moslem murderers being allowed free passage.

I talked to a group of about 6 LEOs in a local pizza joint a few years back, about this very issue.
They all agreed with me, and desired that everybody was carrying, openly if possible.
One older cop in the group repeated the adage “An armed society is a polite society.” I agreed. I work in restaurants, and would prefer that at least half our customers were armed at any given moment. They agreed, too.
I don’t carry because I am a drinker and have read Branca’s Law of Self Defense. I hope the guy next to me does carry, though. It’s Michigan, so… more than likely, he or she does.

Every place I’ve been it’s also illegal to carry inside of every business thst earns 51% or more of its business thru alcohol sales.
Whst ya gotta watch is your blood alcohol level when carrying, even if your state doesn’t specify BALs for carrying you don’t want to be over what the DUI minimum levels are. Big thing is not so much the criminal but the civil trial thst may follow. In a criminal trial the surrounding issues are pretty much guided by law and facts but in a civil trial it’s less about evidence and more about emotion…ask OJ. Any alcohol in your blood gets stage center and takes on a life of its own.
Our job standard was you weren’t supposed to have consumed more alcohol than two shots of 80-proof alcohol within 8 hours of coming on to duty, and most didn’t.

Technically speaking, I’m not sure that POTUS can take credit for more job creation, but there certainly seems to be cause and effect in play here. 😆 😆

I just read that among other useless corrupt organizations that President Trump is going to eliminate federal funds for Americorp!!! Amen Hallelujah and pass the high fives!
I wonder who could explain to me how a family that is wealthy enough to hold 4 season passes to the Cubs games can have a kid needy enough to qualify for the Americorp program? The whole darn system is so corrupt.
I hope Trump bulldozes it right off of the cliff.

‘Blind sheikh’ dies in prison

Omar Abdel-Rahman, the extremist Muslim cleric known as “the blind sheikh” convicted of conspiracy in the 1993 World Trade Center bombing and planning more attacks as part of a “war of urban terrorism” in the United States, died on Saturday in a North Carolina prison, authorities said.
Abdel-Rahman, 78, died of natural causes at 9:40 a.m. (1440 GMT) at the Federal Medical Center, Butner, part of a federal prison compound in Butner, North Carolina, according to Greg Norton, a spokesman.
The cleric, who had diabetes and coronary artery disease, had been incarcerated at the Federal Correctional Complex, Butner, for nearly 10 years, Norton said.

I think the proper, accepted, academic term now is Mxnonites.
I’m not even kidding.
Saying the word man or men now, even in a word that has nothing whatsoever to do with the male sex, is like invoking Voldemort by saying his name. Kinda like the word niggardly. You just can’t use that word any more.

The first comment, if you sort by “best” (default setting), nails it.
Every picture the print media published and printed of Obama was not only the most stately, statuesque pose they could manage, but even iconic, with a halo. The photographers, for eight long, tedious years, would look for a light fixture behind Obama’s head, place themselves perfectly so that the light fixture was eclipsed by Obmaa’s head, and snap a thousand photos, and then their editors would pick the one to print that was most Presidential looking, the most Glory-inducing.
They’ve used this “One Weird Trick” for decades. Remember when Time Magazine ran a cover with John McCain looking like a zombie vampire, complete with evil shadows?
With GWB before him, and now with Trump, they take a thousand photos, and look for the ones where he’s talking and pronouncing the letter “F”.
Do it. Talk real slow in front of a mirror. See what your face looks like when you are pronouncing the letter “F”. Imagine it in a freeze-frame. You now, no matter who you are on this earth, look like an idiot in that frame.
And they run that pic. The MSM is psychopathic.

Hopefully they don’t throw a paywall up on this article. This is one of Miss Wee and my pet causes, the EPA. This article details what the new honcho has in mind for his tenure there. The biggest thing, IMHO, is getting rid of that bastardized sue-n-settle crapola that has enabled these left-wing wacko’s to fund their attacks on all of us.
FTA – “………….a refocused EPA is in a great position to get results.”
That, he adds, marks a change in direction from his predecessor at the EPA, Gina McCarthy. “This past administration didn’t bother with statutes,” he says. “They displaced Congress, disregarded the law, and in general said they would act in their own way. That now ends.”

Still not tired of winning.
The EPA has been literally making law for more than just the last administration, extra-constitutionally. Illegally.
So has OSHA. So has FDA. So have a hundred other deep-state agencies.
It all needs to be dismantled, for the continuance of our Nation.

lilbirdee12’s prayer:
Our Heavenly Father, Your children come to you tonight to ask for healing and peace throughout our country so that we may return to being One Nation Under God. Guide us to be leaders in Your Kingdom, spreading Your Love and Salvation to all. Forgive us our sins and deliver us from evil.
Lord, we ask for a blanket of protection over all our troops and law enforcement who serve to defend and protect us. Bless our representatives with the strength and wisdom they need to achieve the path You have chosen for us.
Please place Your Guardian Angels of Protection around Donald Trump and Mike Pence and their families as they seek to lead America back to You.
Grant us patience, Lord, as the evil ones try to anger us and cause us to fall.
Spread blessings over Israel and Netanyahu.
We humbly ask that You please comfort those who are grieving and in pain.
Thank you Father, for Your Love and the gift of Life.
In Jesus name, we pray. Amen
