Gift Week, Day Five – Your Fondest Wish

Today, I want to know what you would like to have this year for Christmas. I want to know what material gift(s) you want. Is it a particular kind of clothing – perhaps a cashmere coat? Maybe a beautiful ring or necklace. A boat? A car? A new gun? What kind?

Perhaps a new puppy?

Think of what you really want, and be specific. Your ideas may help your other stellars select gifts for their loved ones!

I would like a trip to Scotland. I may have to gift myself.

scotlands-castlesIf you are fresh out of ideas for your loved ones, fortunately there are great gift guides on the web. Here’s just one of them, from Esquire:

Let’s see, I think my fondest wish would be a boat. A real boat with a motor to scoot around Lake Chatuge. The most common type there is a pontoon, or even a tritoon. At first I thought they were silly, but after renting one I see how nice they can be. The problem is we are not boat people. DH is worried about pulling into a dock slip. We were all set to buy one, but we used the money on some serious landscaping, a retaining wall along the driveway.

So after a bit of research I found a cross between a boat and a pontoon.. Here it is.

It has to open features of a pontoon, and the maneuverability of a boat.

This is not happening, so plan B would be something like Tennis Lessons.

the two happiest days in a boat owners life. The day he gets the boat. The day he gets rid of the boat.
I have a lakehouse, and got a boat to teach my young kids to sky, etc….and their friends. Then DW and I used to run about the lake to “see what was going on”…but kids grew up, hardly get to the lake much except maintenance runs, boat is mostly stored….and if I got one, it would be a party barge like pontoon thing….but, no likely any more.

Opportunities for recreational fun abound all around Lake Chatuge. Full service marinas rent pontoon boats, waterskiing boats, jet skis, canoes, kayaks and peddle boats. People can enjoy fly fishing for trout in numerous streams and rivers, go swimming, whitewater rafting, or hike along various trails in the area that lead to the famous Appalachian Trail.

You probably wouldn’t know this Joshua, but I live there during the summer… I have a cabin just outside of town… I understand about owning a boat. My plan involves a marina, the one right by the Blue Otter, which, has a roof. The boat lives there all year long, and I get to use to pool at the resort… Also, I am adamant about an outboard engine… it just seems less troublesome… So maybe.. maybe Springtime we will take the plunge…
My cabin is very near to the Appalachian trail, where it crosses into North Carolina. There was a horrific fire there recently, firefighters kept our neighborhood safe.

I know the area is very pretty and a lot of antique shops and quaint places….when I got my boat, it was 22 foot Bayliner with a Mercruiser sterndrive…not like a outboard except I could raise and lower the prop when needed, but it had a ton of power. Could handle 8 adults well, and was comfortable to cruise or to blast around in….today, I am more pontoon party speed….and we have a July 4 fireworks deal on our lake that everyone takes a boat out and parks to watch it….

I have a large aluminum flatboat…they learn to row. So, no row, no go…that’s life.

I had a small flatboat. I left it behind when we sold our home in PA. What a pain when we expected rain, I had to haul it out and turn it upside down, the cover never did seem to work that well.

I leave mine out, upside down, on the backside of the dam, that way it’s protected from high winds and jerks that might want to borrow it. I can also leave it right side up with the transom downslope and the drain plug out but then I have to sweat someone borrowing it and taking it out with the drain open.

I’m hoping to get Bishop Barron’s video set Catholicism: The Pivotal Players. It’s likely what I will ask my husband to get it for me. Otherwise, my go to gift request is always Amazon gift cards because I can use them together to get myself a really nice gift that I probably wouldn’t buy for myself.

I got a new custom CCW belt and inside-the-waistband holster system. Belt has steel support built in so it won’t roll over, holsters more adjustable than I am (chiropractor’s working on that). Guess compared to wishing for world peace the holster set’s a bit shallow, but then barring world peace…

A new non-stick skillet, preferably one that is rugged and will last forever, like my 40+ year old cast iron skillet, but slipperier on the inside, that can withstand searing hot temps and won’t kill birds with fumes when it gets decently hot.
Oh, and smoke alarms that can distinguish normal cooking from a real fire.

Quit my job this morning. 9 years. Yes, I did.

Here’s your keys. I won’t be needing them any more.

I’ll have a better job by Monday.
