Liquor, yes, from you–my contributions were the 12 days of Christmas, from December 25 to January 5th. I don’t remember candles, but perhaps I did them, too. I often get carried away.
I see that the Advent threads have started next door. I’ll check in over there.

Remembering the Benedictine monastery in Utah (http://www.holytrinityabbey.org). There are only aboutv10 monks left there and it’s unlikely they will recruit any more – the monastic life is largely passé. When the monks die so, for all intent and purposes, will the monastery. Plans are already being made for ‘repurposing’ the land and buildings, all that will be left is memories of the good times there

BTW, we used to drive up there, as did many of the non-Catholics in the area, for their bread. They’d make and sell super whole wheat bread. If you go to the website link I included, under ‘Bookstore and Gift Shop’, 3rd paragraph under thevheading is a live link to their recipe. This is the simple bread they ate with every meal and folks drove miles to buy. They won’t be here but their bread will be, we’re going to make it for Christmas.

Well, the socialists are enjoying their form of USA freedoms and rights.
Seems, not to long ago, a group of USA citizens gathered in UTAH.
Wonder if a similar outcome is awaiting the group in North Dakota?
‘Our Land’: Pipeline Protesters Vow to Defy Army Corps
The letter makes it clear that the land will be closed to the public and that anyone who enters it will be considered trespassing and could face prosecution under federal, state and local laws.
Saturday, two prominent North Dakota politicians said the onus was on the federal government to close the camps.
“Our state and local law enforcement agencies continue to do all they can to keep private property and public infrastructure free from unpermitted protest activities, and it’s past time that the federal government provides the law enforcement resources needed to support public safety and to enforce their own order to vacate,” Gov. Jack Dalrymple, a Republican, said in a statement.

For those who do not click links…
Typical of the misinformation spread during the protests is a comment made by Jesse Jackson, who recently joined the activists in North Dakota. He said the decision to reroute the pipeline so that it crossed close to the Standing Rock Sioux tribe’s water intake was “racism.”
He did not mention, possibly because he did not know, that the company is paying to relocate the tribe’s water intake to a new spot 70 miles from the location of the contested pipeline crossing.
The pipeline route was adjusted based on concerns expressed by locals — including other tribal leaders — who met with company and Army Corps of Engineers officials.
The court record reveals that the Standing Rock Sioux refused to meet with corps officials to discuss the route until after site work had begun. That work is now 77 percent completed at a cost of $3 billion.
In response to a lawsuit filed by the Standing Rock Sioux, the court documented “dozens of attempts” by the corps to consult with the tribe. It documented the legal and proper approval process the corps used to permit all of the contested construction sites the tribe claimed were improperly permitted. It even documented evidence that the corps had exceeded the minimum legal requirements during its earnest and lengthy efforts to receive the input of tribal leaders on the pipeline.
Pipeline protesters may have a tight grip on media coverage of the pipeline, but they have a demonstrably loose grip on the facts. The truth — as documented not by the company but by the federal court system—is that pipeline approvals were not rushed, permits were not granted illegally, and tribal leaders were not excluded.
These are facts upheld by two federal courts

We had a lot of ‘track’ greyhound adoptions around West Palm when I was there in the early 70s. They had muscles like weight lifters, we’dcwaych them train in the sand pits by our housing development.
Many track dogs were trained out west in places like Colorado where they’d develop greater lung capacities due to the altitude. A lot of sheepherders adopted them as they’d work the coyotes, chasing them across the county, under the skilled and intelligent direction of the German Shepherd flock managers.

I’ve met a couple of people who have adopted greyhounds that were bred for the track but didn’t make the cut or were mediocre and retired. Sweet dogs.
I have heard one of the hunting techniques is that ranchers on open plains let loose the pack after a predator and when they get close to closing in on the predator then rancher who has been following in a truck releases the kill dig who with fresh energy goes in for that which he as been named.

I’ve posted this before but back in West Palm we had a real bucks-down guy, money coming out of his pores, who adopted a reallybsweet track dog, He fell in love with her at first sight and even had a special harness built for her so she could sit in the co-pilot’s seat when he flew his private plane – he never went anywhere without her.

On second thought you should start a Go Fund Me and demand a recount. It seems to be working for Jill.
But.
This is my first year watching any of the show. It seems like there was only one judge for best in show or did I misunderstand the process? If so you would have to implement more Clintonian tactics to get the results changed 😎
LikeLiked by 3 people
We used to show Samoyeds, a lot of what goes on in the top show echelons is beauty contest/politics. If I remember correctly the judges in the classes are specialists (or we’re led to believe) in the groups, some in more than one. Those who have been in the judging business long enough and have been recognized by their ilk as experts across the board are Best of Show judges.
In truth that ain’t necessarily so. The breed standards are constantly being tweaked and new breeds are being added to the AKC ranks regularly. Thst’s a lotta stuff to memorize on an ongoing basis. There’s also the judges who can’t quite let go of that tilt toward one breed or another regardless.
One of our problems was that certain breeds are less inclined to having their various dog parts poked, probed and fondled by a judge, especially a judge who’s in a hurry and diesn’t ‘respect’ the dog. If the dog makes an ‘I’m not comfortable with that’ move or gives a slight warning growl thebjudge will takes points or even eject the dog. There are certain breeds in some shows that require a handler to secure the dog’s mouth. It’s a crap shoot and you’re just along for the ride.
My middle son’s showing Rhodesian Ridgebacks and getting into the business. If you’re into it it’s fun, I’m just at the stage of sitting out under a tree with fat mutts watching the day go by.
LikeLiked by 3 people
I did notice that some of the judges opened the dogs mouths themselves and other judges let the handlers open the dogs mouth for the them. Lots of beautiful dogs 🙂 Judges seemed to fancy themselves as the poodles of the human world.
LikeLiked by 3 people
Some dogs such as Dobs, the mastiff family, have defensive behaviors in their breed standards so judges are not supposed to take off points if the dog doesn’t like getting poked and probed. Many handlers who know their dogs will work the dog’s mouth for the judge. In some non-AKC shows breeds like the Fila Brasileiro must have their mouthes restrained as their temperament is….impetuous… and biting the judge is not disqualifying.

Not much you can do but keep her warm and comfortable, dogs know they’re sick and how sick, they also know and appreciate love, comfort and security when they know they’re in bad shape, it’s the support that helps them make the passage. Not much we can do but give you both moral support, just keep her comfortable.

Seems somehow this time of year is hard on family members leaving us…blood as well as canine or feline. It is clear that folks here on this sharing place have lots of love and life experience with the things that really matter most. In my commenting here yesterday, you may have seen my remarks comparing Stella’s cold (but beautiful) picture and my old ex sweetheart who passed through town. Well. now I have the proof of what I speak.
We stood on the Sundial Bridge the other day, and she cast her gaze towards the west and the mountain over that way, and I told her it was Mt. Bally. Big and beautiful, 6000 feet.
Now a storm passed through yesterday, as well as her on her way back up to Washington, and my early morning drive after the clouds have lifted produced this…
It is now FROZEN! And here you all thought I was the crazy one! =D

Sorry but I’m having a regular chucklefest reading your comments. I had a boy, Michael, who “fell in love” with me in 2nd grade. We were friends all through grammar school but never dated. We went to different high schools. He would call maybe once a month and we would chat, we even went out together a bit but never dated.
When I was about 23? I was visiting my parent’s house, there was a knock at the door, sure enough there he was. I was happy to see him as an old friend and he asked me if he could take me out to dinner. I told him that my boyfriend was headed over but all three of us could go out if he’d like to join us for dinner.
So he gets a very serious look on his face and says no that wouldn’t really work out, he was getting married the next day unless I was willing to give him a chance
😜.
Now. Who in the heck commits to someone yet goes to another girls house on the eve of his wedding? We never dated. He told me he always loved me and always would. I told him that might be something he should tell his fiancé 🙄.
Just then my boyfriend showed up. I introduced them and didn’t say a word about what had just been said. But Michael said, “I am just here to steal your girl.” there was a little awkward laughter and I told my boyfriend that we were old grammar school friends.
Michael ended up leaving shortly after my beau arrived.
Anyhow, Michael probably doesn’t remember the story as fondly as I do 😇

I had a similar situation. I had never dated the guy, we were just friends. He said he was in love with me, but he was going to marry her if I didn’t want him. I was shocked, and besides, I knew she was pregnant. It sure made me think a lot less of him.

Right? In what way is it attractive for a women to hear that a guy is ready to make a lifetime commitment to someone else …. unless….of ….course…. someone else is interested. Not exactly a selling point 🤔

Honestly the kid Michael and I spent time running wild together, we both had permissive parents, so we shared many good memories. When we were kids some of the streets were torn up to put in new sewer lines. The drop was at least 20 feet and nothing but solid rock, the construction workers left double boards across certain expanses as a short cut from one side to the other.
Who will walk across the board that the construction guys left across the giant hole?
Michael, me and one other kid were the only ones to do it. I never really had a clue that he had a crush on me but I have nothing but fond memories of him and I suspect he made a very good husband. I left this part of the story out but the first thing he said to me was that Mr. Atlas was at the corner bar and to hurry up and come with him because he would introduce me to Mr. Atlas. I was like who the heck is Mr. Atlas?

Well, it is a long story, but we dated for 2 years just after I got out of high school and she was finishing. I was the street kid, much divorced family and much moving about from school to school, rough and tumble. Her, Mormon girl, daughter of a doctor, sweet, fine family, good up bringing.
We had a blast, and for those 2 years we laughed and explored and were inseperable. But I was wild and carefree, with no plan or purpose, and I sort of spun out at the end. Our breakup crushed me, but didn’t know what to do. Went “tharn” if you’ve ever read Watership Down. She brought up the other day that she had just saw the movie. Hint? IDK but could be.
Anyways, I rebounded to my wife of 29 wonderful AND hellish years, 4 great kids and got on track. She, married a guy named Derek at the same time. We had kids about the same time. She’d pop in now and then, and we kept in touch every few years. Her I think to confirm she had made the right choice, and me knowing all the while that she had.
She contacted me about 12 years ago, getting divorced. See, she had gone for the fast track, highly motivated, success driven guy, but he was a complete ass and actually put her in the hospital once.
So a few things she’s said keeps me thinking she is thinking the same thoughts as I. Told me her daughter would ask to tell the stories of us and our whirlwind romance, not the ones of her own dad. That she should have gone for “family: instead of “fortune”. Sent me the song by Dido, “White Flag’ if you’ve ever heard. Others.
Now over the years, I had done everything I could to get her out of my head. I prayed. I broke soul ties. Burnt incense. Threw salt over my shoulder, stepped on cracks to break my mothers back etc. Shoot, I was even hit in the head with a hammer once and severely concussed, yet she still remained.
As my wife and I separated and then divorced 3 years ago, I contacted her. Told her I loved her and always would, and she immediately responded. Led to a 6 month text/phone relationship where we talked and shared our lives.
Now, you got to know, that when she did respond, I went “Limitless”, like the Bradley Cooper movie. No little clear pill, just her, and I go on a rush like no other. She asked the other day if I was on drugs the other day. Nyet.
Things are clear, beautiful and I don’t sleep. Same thing happened this time, Got lost in the beauty of a windmill spinning the other day driving down the highway, stars are amazing, flowers, birds, everything. My scores on Lumosity skyrocketed, and I broke through the ceilings that I had hit. (90 percentile BTW).
But, with the no sleep, I usually end up saying something stupid, like “I love you”, and she runs. She is jaded. And in all actuality way too mean for what really suits me. But. Its her.
Love is strong, it is powerful. If I could control my emotions I would, but it just takes over. I looked it up online and there is a chemical cocktail that’s released. Some call it the “love drug”. There are countless songs about it, paintings, books, wars and nations destroyed over this. King David comes to mind.
But it is a beautiful thing, and I’m sure all of you have experienced similar feelings. I totally enjoy it, even through the pain. I’m on the mend now. Slept 5 hours straight last night after 4 and 3 the nights before. Which are better than the 2 I had for the past 2 weeks. Still running hot, and I’m glad you laughed, my intentions.
Last part, if you are still there, we never had sex. She was a virgin, we both were, I respected her and would never push. Could have something to do with it. ya think?
Thanks for listening, I needed to spew, and whom better than with my fine friends here at this Place. =D

Aw. That is a beautiful if not sad story?
I’ll have to think about it. Process it. What is love? Intangible.
My biology teacher in high school had a theory that our souls are sort of pyramid shapes and that every soul is angled to a certain degree differently than every other soul. When we come into contact wth a soul which is angled to align with our own soul the attraction is overpowering. His theory was that we all have many people with which our souls align to one degree or another. The more our souls align the greater the attraction. So perhaps your souls are aligned.
When I was in high school I thought it was silly. Now I think there is some truth to it.
And now for the but… sometimes regardless of howler souls are aligned our life’s journey can make us comparable or incompatible whatever it is the “draw” remains.
I met my husband at a wake. On the ride home from the funeral my future husband told his mom “I think I love her. I’m going to marry her.” He has been gone now almost 12 years it seems unimaginable to me.

How’d you know, I have a howler soul? =D
Yep, some definite attachment of something stronger than I know of. You know, she has a moniker herself with “hummingbird” in it. And funny/weir/true stories here.
2 years ago when I said something stupid and she had just cut me off, I was out working and from across the yard, had a hummingbird jettison from across the yard towards my skull and pull up like a foot short. I know they are territorial, but I believe she sent one of her minions to do away with me.
After a few weeks, still no word, me in anguish, prayed out to just’the Universe out there”, to please just let me hear her voice one more time. Now, point of contention between us was even though she was raised in a church and I wasn’t. I t was now her whom was anti-religion and I whom was born again believer and had just completed 2 years of ministry school. Well, got home that night and she called, after I had really felt a “peace” after I had prayed. Hmmmmmm……
There is something going on, I don’t think I/we will never know here on Earth exactly what that is.
But it is good. Unless you live down New Orleans way, then I’m not so sure. =D Love ya Wee and Czar, but there’s some spooky stuff down your way!
Thanks for your all’s listening and input. Means a lot to me.

“Howler souls” Ha! I think I have just found a new area of interest. “Whisperer Souls” something I’ve never thought about!
Anyhow sounds like you have to decide whether there is an authentic attraction worth pursuing or if the thrill of the always just out of reach is what the real attraction is, it is always safe to love that which you cannot have.
Hope that isn’t overstepping my internet thinking cap skills.
That said I once left a guy sitting at a restaurant because I said “Ready Freddy” and he whined “My name’s not Freddy.” Me? “Oh, OK assh*le, bye.” I just had no time for that kind of petulance even when I was young 😎.

Sometimes you just find those souls you’re attached to from a previous life. My marriage was going to hell when I met the Czarina through most improbable circumstances, and I knew within minutes of meeting her wevwere going to be together for a long, long time. It wasn’t rebound, it was kismet. You can look back on what you hoped might be but what’s meant to be will be.

Then again, you ain’t dead yet. Seen those stories on the rvening news about coup,es who were paired in high school, split up and went their separate ways only to reunite in their dotage?
Czarina and I unknowingly crossed paths in Oklahoma and Florida only, some 30 years later, to meet in Utah…go figure.

I will, and as of right now, she’s back up north. Direct communication she shut down, but is allowing me to speak through facebook as yet. So I’m giving her some early morning thoughts, keeping it slow. Share a song. Simple.
You know, in my ramped up stage, I actually don’t know what I said pissed her off this time. As her “quick stop to say hi” turned to a 4 hour walk/talk/eat thing that first day a couple of weeks ago, I commented she had a great life, and she does.
But I saw a shadow cross her face as she replied, and it tool me back and puzzled me.
A couple days later I asked her about what I saw and it got her started. I was “projecting”, putting people in a box etc. Beginning of the end.
I know this is Stella’s blog, but will gladly keep up the report if it is ok by all of the admin.

We open the restaurant Tuesday. I orbitally-sanded 11 table-sides today, and applied yet another coat of poly to all of them. It would have been nice if, before I applied 5 coats to all of it, the had listened to me when I said we should sand it a bit, first. “No! It’ll ruin the character of the reclaimed ancient barnwood!” Two days ago: “We should sand all of this! People might get splinters! Hey Wooly! Take all these 250 lb. tables outside and re-sand and re-poly them, then bring them back in, and make it look like nothin’ ever happened.”
“Yes, bossman. Excellent idea! Wish I’d thought of that!” SMH

Sand ’em, use a propane torch to hilite the grain, then poly ’em. Actually, I seldom look at the table, it’s the food that counts. Pre ‘millennial yuppie invasion’ we’d get fabulous New Orleans good in places that had tables which looked like the landing deck on the Lexington. Ahhhh…waxing nostalgic for something washed away over ten years ago…now where’s that nouvelle NOLA cuisine ‘tofu Creole avec quinoa’?

Ten shot, one fatally, on Bourbon street last night. In 2004 in almost the same place there was another shooting incident with almost the same number of casualties. In both cases it was young persons, early twenties, partying early into the AM with free-flowing booze. Sooooooo, we have a 24/7 party atmosphere where you can buy hi-octane drinks and carry them out into the streets, lots of teens with few bars checking ID, and a city that turns a slanted eye to underage partying…WTF could possibly go wronng?
This weekend was the Bayou Classic weekend, a long-standing football game between two historically blsck colleges, and the shooters/shootees were young black males……probably just a coincidence, Damn you, guuuuun viollllleeennnccceeeeee…

My husband and I consider NO a favorite place. We have driven there and visited many times and never felt unsafe. That being said, even we have noticed a change on Bourbon St., less music (which we loved) and just more adult shows, and general mayhem.

Bourbon street’s racked up quite a shooting record over the last few years, booze and teens fuel it. The Southern-Gramblibg Bayou Classic game has spawned its own boby count over the last few too – that was last night.
A lot of what traditionally has been dangerous territory remains so though it seems as if the thugs over the last few years have become bolder and are ranging out farther from their natural hunting grounds. Where shootings are up/stable (take your statistical pick) deaths are down as the new LSU hospital has three state-of-the-art Level One trauma rooms in operation. City’s figured that it’s easier to save victims than it is to try and civilize their victimizers.
