I don’t think I will ever understand this world we live in now. My husband, daughter and I were out garage sale shopping today. At one particular garage sale my husband was in charge of the grandson, grandson ran away from him and almost got into the road, Papa yelled to get him to stop and caught up to him and grabbed his hand and led him back away from the road. This 30-something lady about went into vapors because he yelled and grabbed his hand. I’m a smarta$$ and asked her if it would be better to let him run into the road and get ran over by a car? She said she didn’t believe in raising her voice at her toddler and you could hurt them by grabbing their hand. I’m looking at her like she just grew two heads and asked her if she ever holds her toddler’s hand, she says, “no, because I do not want to hurt her when she tries to fall down and not move. I either carry her, push her in the stroller and if she ever tries to run to the road I quietly and calmly explain to her not to do it and pick her up. Toddlers should be treated like little adults and adults don’t want to be screamed at or jerked around.”

I just walked away realizing she was too stupid to waste my time on. As I was getting in the truck, I notice the bumper sticker on her Toyota hybrid, Pro Choice It’s My Body.

It’s crazy that people have a fit over yelling at a child and when I say yelling, he yelled in what my kids have always called the Dad’s voice, “Stop Now!” It worked he stopped in his tracks, because Papa rarely uses the Dad’s voice. lol He grabbed his hand and wrist, he didn’t jerk, he grabbed it and led him back to where we were.

I really hope she’s the exception because if not this next generation is really going to need a safe place.

I still though can’t comprehend in my mind, killing a baby good, yelling at a toddler to stop him from running into the road bad. I think you have to be mentally ill to comprehend it.

I think I have told this before, but we were on a ship to Panama. I was about 18 mo. I guess. I had the harness on and she had the end of the leash. She was sitting on a deck chair and looked up and I was up on my stomach on the railing just as the ship tilted that way. She lost what was in her lap but stopped me from going over the side. May be why she was so overprotective later. LOL

It probably was why she was overprotective. One of my brother’s almost died when he was a year old, some kind of illness and they didn’t think he was going to make it, he spent several weeks in the hospital. My mom wasn’t so much overprotective as he was her baby and he got away with a lot more than the rest of us did, even me who was the baby. He is the only child my mother really spoiled and he was a brat. If one of us said anything she’d always say he almost died. I told her one time I wished I had almost died and I got a spanking and was told to never say that again. lol
She finally realized her mistake when he was a teen and her wild child.

Good thing she didn’t see me drag my son in the parking lot. It was only an inch or two, but we were in the lane where the cars came through. He decided he didn’t want to walk, threw himself down, and wanted me to carry him, but I had my arms full. I told him to get up and walk and he didn’t, so I drug him. He said, “Mommy, that hurts.” I told him it was going to keep hurting if he didn’t get up. He never did that again. He wasn’t stupid. But, I would probably be arrested today.

Can’t spank them in public these days, they do call the cops on ya. A few months ago I was in the gun/camping store and this mother had this boy who looked to be about 3 or 4 who kept grabbing stuff off the shelves. After the third time he did it, she spanked his butt. Me and the lady who owns the store applauded her. lol

She let out a sigh of relief and said she had hoped where she was at and that it was just us two women in there we wouldn’t freak out or have her arrested, but he had learned that she really can’t even yell at him in the store so he pushes the limit. He straightened right up after two swats on the backside.

I was never one to spank a lot and two of my kids can count on one hand how many times I did spank them. One of them I lost count because he didn’t just cross my line he wiped it out and jumped ten feet past it.
Mine knew what going to the bathroom meant though. lol

I have to shop with these little hoodlums today and you don’t know how tempted I am to pick them up and spank them, so if any of mine tried acting like them they’d just have to lock me up because they’d get it right there in front of everyone.

Even my problem child knew better to act up out in public though. One reason might be because he tried once to lay down and throw a temper tantrum and I left him laying there. The other reason was because his Daddy told him if I ever had to spank him in public he was getting another one from him when he got home.
Some folks thought I was going to give him a fear of being left or kidnapped, I told them that was the idea and it was why I told him I was leaving and somebody else could take him home with them. lol

No doubt in my mind I would have been swatted on my diapered behind.

My daughter was about 4 and our dirt road the county decided to widen and pave, so we went from no traffic to tons of traffic in front of our house. She ran in the road after a cat, I spanked her behind halfway back to the house. I was not going to discuss with a 4 year old the dangers of running into the road, I meant to cause her a little pain that she would remember versus her getting killed by a car. She never again attempted to get out of her boundaries. A few years later we sold the place and moved farther into the sticks. lol
