Washington mall shooting: Gunman kills 5 people

UPDATE !!!

SEATTLE (CBS/AP) — Police searched Saturday for a gunman authorities said opened fire in the makeup department of a Macy’s store at a mall north of Seattle, killing five people before fleeing toward an interstate on foot.

People fled, customers hid in dressing rooms and employees locked the doors of nearby stores after gunshots rang out just after 7 p.m. Friday at the Cascade Mall. A helicopter, search teams and K-9 units scoured the area for a rifle-carrying man.

“We are still actively looking for the shooter,” Washington State Patrol spokesman Sgt. Mark Francis said at a news conference. “Stay indoors, stay secure.”

Francis said police were seeking a Hispanic man wearing black and armed with a “hunting-type” rifle last seen walking toward Interstate 5.

Authorities say the motive was unknown for the shooting about 60 miles (97 kilometers) north of Seattle.

(Original Report)

The FBI was assisting local authorities as dozens of police officers searched for the suspect. The FBI’s Seattle office said on Twitter that it “has no information to suggest additional attacks planned” in Washington state but did not elaborate.

(CNN) – UPDATE: A man has died as a result of Friday night’s shooting at a mall in Burlington, Washington, bringing to five the number of people killed in the shooting, state trooper Heather Axtman said Saturday morning.

A man carrying a rifle entered a Macy’s store at a mall in Washington state, killed four women and vanished into the night, authorities said.

The shooting at Cascade Mall in Burlington left one man injured Friday night, said Sgt. Mark Francis, a spokesman for the state patrol.

Authorities believe it was a lone shooter, and are searching for a man who headed toward Interstate 5 after the attack, said Sgt. Mark Francis, a spokesman for the state patrol.

Frankly, I’m not understanding why this is making national news. Is it because it wasn’t the usual Friday night, bar closing, black gang related, shooting of the Seattle core?

Didn’t you just have a mall knifing incident in Washington? Maybe that’s why.

We have homeless people encamped in department store doorways that attack employees and management when they try to get past to open the stores. We have homeless camp shootings and murders. We have regular gang related shootings any night of the week. Domestic violence on the rise.
It’s migrant workers up there and gangs of all colors. Lot’s of dairy farms up that way. Maybe because it was more than two people shot in a store.

Because a gun was involved. In today’s world anytime a gun is used to kill someone it’s going to be national news, unless it’s Chicago that is, they kind of ignore most of the shootings in Chicago.

Like I said, We have lots of “gun” violence regularly. Some woman was shot in the chest in a parking lot about closing time just a few blocks from me. It was one weekend after another shooting in the same parking lot. I have no idea how the woman is doing. None of those made the national news. It was black on black crime.

Who knows? Maybe it was a slow news night, more than two people were shot, there was no known motive, and the suspect is at large. Also, this didn’t take place in Seattle.

Maybe it was because the shooter was influenced by the evil psychic draw of assault hunting type rifles.

And that is why it wasn’t national news.
They like those which can further the agenda and when(if) this comes out as not fitting the agenda of the crazy white guy with a gun it will soon be forgotten.
The same with these police shootings, they pick and choose which ones they think will further the agenda.

Maybe the guy was being an ISIS t-shirt? Maybe he is an illegal alien Hispanic and was wearing a La Raza t-shirt.

It sure is inconsistent with all the stories of late where there was great bewilderment as to the ethnicity or race of the perpetrator (Dylan Roof) aside, that they are immediately saying a hispanic male was the shooter.

    Makes me raise my eyebrow.

Population in the are is 32 % hispanic so it could very well be a domestic dispute with collateral damage.

I read somewhere but can’t confirm that the lad contacted LE . That is more consistent with Islam.

Thry soooooooo desperately wanted the shooter to be Hispanic, you can tell theirpanic as they’d prefer a Hispanic to a Member of the Religion of Peace. Maybe they could have tried to pass him off as a member of one of the Christian sects in Turkey had the Moslem Turks not killed them off.
Interesting point one news broadcast brought out is that the police are releasing the pix of him entering Macys with the rifle as if he entered the mall through that store. Theis broadcast showed pix of him actually entering the mall-proper unarmed, meaning he had the gun stashed and retrieved it from a mall hidey spot before he entered Macys. If true that begs the question how did the gun get stashed/staged for this shooting? Did he have help?

Now that it has been established that he is Muslim, how long do you think it will be before the MSM starts backing off the story?

      Very good question, czar.

Let’s see if the handlers figure it’s just easier to BS-explain away the pic than it is to ask the question.
Let’s go back to the first Christmas or two after 911 when the media made the shopping public scared as hell that they’d be shot/blown up/knifed or otherwise maimed were they to go to the mall. They gradually nudged the fear over to other holidays or activities; not that they had any data, it just made sensational press. Now it looks as if the Moslem thugs and the press are ready to hop into bed and work that same theme. Everything that’s old be new again.

The POtuS doesn’t think we have a Moslem-gun problem, he believes it’s more of a problem with law abiding citizens who may shoot his myriad of aggrieved thug murderers having guns.
Even You Know Who seems to have forsworn firearms, inconvenient political folks around her are dying from less violent, non-gun causes.

I should have looked a bit more closely at the video posted above. Note the first two pix show the shooter entering the mall and in the mall unarmed. He’s armed later in the last two photos.

A 20-year-old suspected gunman was arrested Saturday in connection with a shooting at a Washington state mall the night before that left five people dead, authorities said.
Arcan Cetin was arrested in Oak Harbor at around 6:30 p.m. while walking down the street as authorities converged on a car believed used in the shooting at the Crossroads Mall in Burlington, police said at a press conference.

“He said nothing. He was just kind of zombie-like, about the best I can describe,” said Island County sheriff’s Lt. Mike Hawley, who was headed to a car suspected in the shooting, recognized Cetin, and made a U-turn and arrested him without incident.

Police received numerous tips, and one of those tips received earlier today led police to begin looking into Cetin, Cammock said.
Surveillance video from other businesses and elsewhere in the city led authorities to identify the vehicle, Cammock said.
Security footage showed the man entering the mall, apparently without a weapon. In additional footage from about 10 minutes later, he “entered Macy’s with a rifle and fired multiple times,” Cammock said earlier.
Cammock said Saturday night that authorities believe he kept the rifle, which was recovered at the scene, in the car and retrieved it before the shooting. Police were tracing ownership of the weapon, he said.

Joe Zavala of Blaine, Washington, was drinking coffee outside of Macy’s while his wife was in the store when he heard shots ring out.
“Then I saw a man pointing a gun and shooting people,” Zavala told NBC affiliate KING 5 in Seattle. “And then I got up to look a little closer and he saw me, pointed the gun, and I took off running.”
Once the shots stopped Zavala ran back to the store and saw people lying on the floor and and a rifle placed on top of the cosmetics counter. He eventually found his wife inside a fitting room.

When Cetin was arrested Saturday he was unarmed, Hawley said. Hawley said when he and a reserve deputy got out of their cars with guns drawn Cetin “just froze” and obeyed commands.
Cetin has not yet been formally charged, but will be held at the Skagit County Jail under an investigative hold while prosecutors review the case, Cammock said. When Cetin was arrested he was unarmed, Hawley said.

Cetin is an immigrant from Turkey but is a lawful permanent resident of the United States, Cammock said. Cetin did not know when he came to the U.S. He was arrested in Island County last year on a case of simple assault, Hawley said.

I wonder if Cetin was wearing an “I’m with Her” t-shirt during his savage spree? The media is even more quiet on this one than your average Muslim slaughter.
