I just got a bigbokd shop vac – don’t be lookin’ pretty but it’ll suck the white off of rice. It picks up dry or wet and I can blow up the kid’s pool with it. Then again we have porcelain tile floors, no rugs as we endlessly track farm dirt in so something industrial strength just made sense. Doesn’t choke on pet fur either.

When we were building we wanted stained concrete floors. Company that did the foam insulation in the attic ended up dripping foam all over the floor so that shot the staining. We decided tile was it and while shopping for it we found an outlet that had ordered a load of tile for a boutique store that never happened. The tiles are for a commercial application, really fired for a surface that withstands foot traffic but doesn’t look commercial. The tiles are surfaced, super hard, match the colors Czarina wanted and we basically got them at what the remainder of the price the original purchaser didn’t pay…win win.
The porcelain is the firing process that makes it so hard, kid resistant, puppy resistant even. .

My Dad was a little strange to say the least. {Great Man} He loved to shop at Army Surplus. He picked up a bunch of weather balloons and decided to use Mom’s Electrolux to inflate them. I was eating lunch at the table watching out the window as they got bigger and bigger. Funny, I thought to myself, they seem to be moving. They were!!! It took off down the driveway with the Electrolux in tow. Dad at a dead run chasing it. He managed to grab the cord just as it was getting out of reach. Had a lot of fun growing up!!!

The Electrolux goes in reverse or there’s an exhaust? I remember getting yelled at for playing with a ping pong ball and the hose attachment on some vacuum, but I to remember which one it was. We had the big old metal (riding) hoover vacuum too, but I don’t think it was that one. Might have been a craftsman shop vac…….

It had to be a late 50’s early 60’s vac. It had an exhaust on it. You just switched the hose from “suck to blow” Hmm, kind of like life some days!

My folks bought one of those monster Kitby vacuums back in about 1961. It lasted until the early 90s when Mom downsized, it was still running thought. Back then you were given a set of kitchen knives just for letting the salesman demonstrate it in-house. Don’t have the vacuum but still have two of the knives.

I’m so stupid. I turned on Glenn Beck for the first time in months. First 30 minutes I’m already arguing in my head with his history lesson. It’s the same as always. To Beck the world doesn’t seem exist prior to 1900 in any meaningful way. Any preexisting environment to 1900 just magically was already there. He cherry picks events after 1900, then attributes outcomes that other factors influenced more.
Argument ended.

Morning all – just wanted to pop in to let everyone know we are safe and sound after last night. We’re on the south side of town and all the craziness happened on the north side near the university (UNCC). I imagine most of the “protestors” were students. I watched the WSOC chopper feed until about 1 am and then gave up. I thought it was starting to calm down then to find out this morning about everything that happened on I-85.
There was definitely some coordination going on, because there were at least 3 “main” areas of protesting and while close proximity by car; not so by foot.
We’ll see what happens tonight. If I can find a wing man I may actually venture out and capture some citizen journalism if anything starts tonight. They may decide to take the action to Uptown; that would really piss off the uptown crowd. (They, the uptown ppl, like their shiny things!)

By hiliting questionable police shootings the engineers can cast a negative light on all police shootings, thereby hastening the inevitable Federal oversight/control of state, county and local police. Feds tried in the 70s to disarm the police and change police dress to more civilian clothing.
Feds like the Brit model of just about all police being unarmed with a sector car containing arms and authorized users deploted as backup. Usual prog excuses are that the questionable shootings show even trained police make errors (question of provocation by shootee is never brought up) therefore public safety demands that only specialty specially trained police get to make the call of using firearms in defense. Note: they will also apply that same logic towards eliminating CCWs and Castle Laws.
I wouldn’t say that eager prog engineers might even create false flag operations to hasten the process. Why wait for random and messy accident when you can create and manage your own to your needs?

The Daily Caller reports that people began to gather at the scene after the shooting and soon a crowd of hundreds began clashing with riot police. “F*ck the police!” rioters chanted.
“We out like the Taliban!” one rioter could be heard crying on a Facebook Live broadcast of the protests, shortly after tear gas canisters were fired into the crowd. After 11 p.m., the situation grew more severe, with several people successfully trashing a police SUV.
“We ain’t playin’ no motherf*ckin’ games, n*gga!” another demonstrator yelled on the Facebook broadcast, trying to fire up other protesters.
“This ain’t no one-day action!” another cried. “This is the first time people standing up!”
“This is the first time people standing up!”
Rosa Parks was unavailable to comment on this ingnorant idiocy.
Whenever white people finally get around to Standing Up to these thugs, en masse, it will be a good day. The Crusades didn’t happen from just one or two straws on the camel’s back. As it were. There will come a final straw, and these folks are obviously intent on providing it.
We’re tired of locking our car doors when you people are present and acting like you want to kill us, yet being afraid to lock our car doors because it is common knowledge that if you see or hear us lock our car doors, you have the right to prove us right by violently attacking us for locking our car doors out of a sense of self-preservation. Because you’re mostly arrogant idiots.
One day we’ll stand up, and America will be great again. And Chuck E Cheese will be peaceful again, and free of weekly melees and riots. And police can focus once again on real crime, and not the TNB crime that is their daily bread. The Crusades needed a last straw. Keep piling them on, BLM.

You don’t think, seeing the hummingbirds feeding, that they are the same ones sort of hanging around for the day. I’m told that for every one you see there are at least five more out there and they’re all just passing through. Must be true as yesterday’s flood of hummers ended up consuming just over 2-1/2 quarts of sugar water out of the feeders. Considering the paperclip size of one that meant a lotta little migrating bug eaters came by for a drink. Just surprised at the numbers, not to mention how we can’t get friends to drive out to the wilderness for a visit but get birds from all over the US to drop by for a drink and a gnosh.
OK, back to the mud and the blood and the rioting in the streets.

That got me thinking about ticks, so I went outside and had a smoke, and was soon thinking about morel mushrooms.
Hear me out.
I walk outside to my fire escape for a smoke, and see what I see every evening at this time, a tornado of birds, circling part of my block. We used to wonder whether they were bats, but photography proved they were all sparrows. They’re feeding on insects, over the Hale’s building chimneys, which are the entrances to their unimaginable nest, a three-storey former department store, now abandoned, (except at street level), with 2nd and 3rd storey windows open for 9 years straight.
They act as if they are one creature. Watch the display for enough years, and you see this.
I had to quit morel mushrooming because of ticks. They love me, and they love gifting me with softball-sized Lyme Disease as close to the family jewels as possible.
There are probably about twenty morels in Michigan. Yes, I said it.
The morel is probably the largest living thing on the planet. The one in Allegan County is probably about 5000 square miles in size.
Yep. These are the things over which I chew my cud.

I love hummers. We had a picture window with a huge lilac “tree” in front of it on the south side of our old house. We kept adding hummer feeders every year to that tree. Ended up with six feeders. When the hummers would make their way north we could hardly keep up with their wants 🙂 Used to mix sugar water in a gallon jug. A funny aside – My daughter used to call them “HumbleBugs” and they remain humble bugs to this day within our family 🙂

Some people (SJWs in SF/F fandom and publishing) see this as a racist website:
https://voxday.blogspot.com/2016/09/mailvox-charlotte-unrest-is-not-riots.html#comment-form
I don’t care. When as many people around me know the names of Channon Christian and Chritsopher Newsom and the details of the case as know the details of the latest NFL-Star drama, I may begin caring what they think about the word “racist”.
There’s even a bit of anti-((())) on the site. Oh dear. I may presently faint; point me to a couch.
Some ethnic group is being maligned! I don’t care. Mine has been for fifty years. And I never burned a city down or assaulted another ethnicity for fun with 10 of my co-ethnics because of this fact. That’s because my folks are what simple people call “civilized”.
Anyway, it’s a great post and a great thread, as usual. Idiocy is dealt with harshly at Vox Day’s site, by the proprietor, so I don’t comment there, much, and instead choose, probably wisely, to just read threads.
Harsh is needed, lately. I don’t hang out at USMC boot camp much, either.
