Think I’ve posted this before but back in the early 70s we had a judge in a divorce case order us to pick up a skunk that was a contested piece of property in a divorce. The house, cars, everything else had been, more or less, amicably divided but they couldn’t agree on the skunk. As both attorneys were worried that the other’s client would make off with the skunk the court ordered the county to secure it until distribution could be made. It spent 16 hours a day in the office running around under desks while deputies and office staff played with and fed it, damn near had to have the judge pry it away from the office.
The skunk was huge, couch cushion size, and friendly as all get-out, box trained and somewhere between a dog and a cat in behavior. In all it wasn’t a bad pet but some states and jurisdictions do have their rules…
You have had some great experiences, czar! That’s a crazy thing to fight over, and probably a first for the courts. I’ve heard skunks can be trained and that they can be good pets if their scent sack is removed. Great story!!!!
I know a few people who’ve had them as pets and we have them around the property – one built a den under the AC slab. We haven’t had a minutes problem with them, the lab’s little run-in was her fault, as long as we don’t go and work at bothering them. The racoons, on the other hand…
I know there are skunks around where I live, too. No raccoons that I’m aware of. We have bobcats, opossum, coyotes, and aramadillos aplenty though. There’s a creek behind our house and many creatures have made homes there even though it’s the suburbs.
I live in the suburbs, and we have skunks, opossums, coyotes and raccoons. There have been claims of bobcats in the outer suburbs, but no concrete proof of it.
I remember ’em from a few places widely seperated. I think it was a Fed program to draw attention to how much acreage was being turned into malls and Walmarts.
Stella, great picture of the Milky Way!!!! Unless your out west, and no light pollution the Milky Way in all its glory is rarely seen. Was thi photo taken along the shore of the UP, or Lake Superior? Thank you……
We’re about 15 miles from the closest source of light pollution so, on a moonless night, we get a very clear of the lens of the Milky Way. On those rare occasions where the area has a blackout the view’s even better. Having lived in the city for so long we forgot what a night sky looked like; during Katrina those who’d stayed behind got to look at clear night skies for weeks.
Looks like 64″ waists to me. The Colonel’s plumb line ain’t gettin’ close to level on these guys. “Over-nourished” is how we put it on medical reports. Love their knee caps.
My point from day one, give the evil blue-eyed oppressor his money back. Now there’d be a moral statement…apparently the bank statement is mo’ important.

Objectively yes. In reality not a chance. Clinton/Comey/Lynchhave have absolutely no shame or pretense of being lawful and they don’t care if the peons of the world know it.
OMG I just nearly died……..laughing. Kaepernick was doing a press conference and he said this, “We were talking to him about how can we get the message back on track, and, not take away from the military. And, as we talked about it, we came up with taking a knee. And, I think what I did was taken out of context and taken a different way.” How is taking a knee better than sitting? Is this football player thinking? How does this guy manage to get his clothes on in the morning? I have a feeling that his new squeez has a hold of his head and he can’t think straight.
This clip doesn’t cover that exact quote of what he said, but I think it was the same press conf.
Ladies,Ladies,Ladies,!!!!! Please!!!! I passed that portion of my training, with flying colors…… Now only if (she) interrogator had used blueberry pie……
Didn’t address those ‘pig’ socks he was wearing, how’s he gonna get it ‘back on track’ for those black LEA he insulted? Or will he take the BLM position that black LEA are dupes of Da Man, Unka Toms or just enjoy oppressing their brothers?
The sun is out, there is a wonderful breeze in the air, beguiling, whispering of the fall wonders to come. The creek placidly meanders along it’s late summer way. It’s only in the seventies, just a perfect, perfect day.
And off I go to work. Ah well, it’s good to be able to work, and to have a job I really like.
Happy weekend y’all. Get Wee to pass a drink out in my honor tonight.
Saw satellite images of the hurricane this morning, with clouds covering the entire state of Georgia, and thought you were likely getting hammered with rain and wind. So glad that’s not the case. And how nice that you have a creek. Some of my best childhood memories involve creeks, turtles and frogs.
It is such a blessing to both have a job and like it. I’ll raise a toast to you tonight when my FOUR-DAY weekend starts! Woo hoo!
I would like to open my windows, too. It is a balmy 80* with a nice breeze, but it is 92% humidity. Guess I will stick with the air conditioned air. ๐ฆ
So my work associate pointed this out today and I wanted to share.
This is the same paper, same date but from different markets. One geared to help sway the Austin Liberals and the other from a clearly more conservative market. Read the difference in headlines. Crazy!!! (September 1, 2016)
Wow, that’s amazing. I knew there were some regional differences but had no idea it was this stark. I once had a second job delivering the WSJ from 4-6 am five days a week, back in the 80s in Seattle. Didn’t last long, I’ve never been much of a morning person.
Czar’s right! Going to be plenty of action here. When Obola/Hilllabeast try to steal the election and they are caught red handed. if I could still do that grunt stuff, would have joined that all female Kurdish unit. JohnP would post pictures of those babes. I could give them lessons , then some more lessons……..
Yeah, you and Nyet have been working on setting me up with straight lines.
I find nothing wrong with being proactive. When the city of New Orleans lied to us and plopped a few hundred Section 8 apartments into our area we started buolding safe rooms and safe (bullet resistant) areas. Out here we know how to incorporate defensive measures into our finctional landscape; trees, ditches, plowed areas, all of those things that are part of our regular existence can be woven into barriers with a minimum of work. Were rustlers to start rustling about 5 minutes of work turns the street into an unusable chokepoint. It can be made temporarily unusable or unusable for varying periods depending upon the need.
We gotta lotta possible scenarios out here, many triggered by the Katrina evacuee mess, and quite a few folks have worked up personsl defense plans as police are spread thinly during the best of times.
I just got an email about the Gosnell movie. It is ready and there is going to be a private showing in Washington, D.C.
“GOSNELL Film Screeningand Meet-and-Greet with Producer Ann McElhinney
Thursday, September 87:30-9:30 p.m.Empire Ballroom – Omni Shoreham Hotel
2500 Calvert St NW, Washington, DC 20008
Please share our Facebook event page with your friends: https://www.facebook.com/events/1420010514681870/?active_tab=highlights
GOSNELL is a feature film about America’s most prolific serial killer and the fight to bring him to justice. Dr. Kermit Gosnell is currently serving three life sentences for murdering babies and patients at his “House of Horrors” abortion clinic. Starring “Young Superman” Dean Cain, GOSNELL shows how the political establishment knew of his activities but allowed Gosnell to keep killing because they did not want to shine a negative spotlight on abortion. The GOSNELL movie was made possible by a record-breaking crowdfunding campaign when 29,000 people gave a total of $2.3 million.
Hereโs what our president, Marjorie Dannenfelser, had to say about GOSNELL:
“Everyone needs to see the Gosnell movie particularly young people. I can’t recommend this movie more strongly. The Gosnell movie faces viewers with the brutality and inhumanity of abortion and it achieves this in a movie that looks as good as any Hollywood film. This movie will change hearts and minds about abortion. It needs to be available widely.”
“We hope you will join us for this very special event!”
Brazil, Had by Far the Largest Number of Slaves in the 18th & 19th Centuries: Around 4,000,000 to 5,000,000
Yet I never hear ANYONE protest Brazil and its egregious record.
Slavery was not ended in Brazil until 1888.
Cuba, that bastion of freedom that football player wore a T-shirt for the other day. They didn’t abolish slavery until 1886 – 21 years after the U.S. did.
“according to the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade Database, 12.5 million Africans were shipped to the New World.
“10.7 million survived the dreaded Middle Passage, disembarking in North America, the Caribbean and South America.
And how many of these 10.7 million Africans were shipped directly to North America? Only about 388,000. Thatโs right: a tiny percentage.
In fact, the overwhelming percentage of the African slaves were shipped directly to the Caribbean and South America;
Brazil received 4.86 million Africans alone!
I’m waiting to hear a black football player, or anybody else fond of protesting,
start protesting the Arabs and demanding reparations from them.
They were the greatest African slave traders of the last 500 years.
If I remember correctly from Western CIV. History, the Colonies were 3rd or 4th in importing Africans. Think the Caribbean was 1st. Thank you Stelle, brings back memories of reading real history, with a flashlight, as it was “lights out” at 2130 on a school night when growing up……
I’m here too. Just having a little Sunset Blush wine. Hey, has anyone seen or heard from FDR in Hell? Have not seen him at the neighbors, but do not spend much time there. I kind of just read Sundance’s work and skip most of the comments.
Don’t know if I’m alone here but I’m really getting sick and tired of hearing the pols we elect being referred to as ‘our elected leaders’. Aside from the fact that leaders lead and far too many of these elected clowns misread the job description and confused the verb with the noun, it sounds like we’re the livestock and they’re the ranchers.
Well, been a while since I done did this…

And how nice that you have a creek. Some of my best childhood memories involve creeks, turtles and frogs.

Seen on Facebook (Robert Chandler):
In fact, the overwhelming percentage of the African slaves were shipped directly to the Caribbean and South America;
