I say this prayer about 3 times a day now, since it’s part of other things I pray. For any who might be interested, here is the origin of the prayer. Some say it might be legend. It was written by Pope Leo XIII after he had a vision.
http://taylormarshall.com/2010/09/origin-of-saint-michael-prayer-pope-leo.html
The above is a very brief account. I believe there are some detailed accounts of witnesses who saw what happened and heard what Pope Leo had to say. He ordered this prayer to be said after Low Mass, everywhere. This was widely discontinued, at least in America, in the late 1960’s, although Bishops can decide for their Dioceses. Where I have lived, it is still said at most churches.

I can’t remember how long ago it was but the Catholic Church removed the exorcism prayer from the rite of baptism.
Shrinking prayers for expediency is a long standing and disappointing trend in the Catholic Church.
I’m a convert and I have defended the Church for years but She her people, both clergy and laymen have sorely disappointed me.

I’m a convert also, Lovely. They have removed exorcism prayers from many things, including the sacramentals of salt and holy water. But not every priest or bishop in America goes along with all this. I have studied and researched VII and what happened afterward, the last two synods and other things, going back in history to the infiltration of Modernism. I personally believe the institutional Church is in a grave crisis, as many also believe.
The way I was brought to the Church is a long story, but it includes some personal spiritual experiences that showed me beyond any doubt what I needed to do. There is no going back or away for me, mainly because of the Eucharist, but also I just have the strongest belief in the Mystical Body, and if a remnant is what we are to be, then that is what I will be. There is much suffering and anguish for many laymen. I feel it and I pray.

I fully agree with both of these statements Pam.
I also know that I bring myself to the Church damaged and sinful and that she has gladly keeps me so I am forever in her debt. I receive Christ in her walls and community from her pews.
I know it is easy for me to see her flaws but at the same time I accept her graces. I am frustrated with the failings of people who make up the church, I am extremely frustrated with Pope Francis and his lack of compassion for the human spirit. This is one of my biggest problems I believe our pope is deceived. That does not go against Church teachings as we have had bad popes, Pope Francis I fear is one of them. It is a very unique time for the Church in that Pope Benedict left his seat rather than passing away.

I cannot disagree with one word you said, although I try to stay away from saying too much about the Pope (no implied criticism of your words.) In almost desperation one day, I asked a priest I totally respect to please explain to me what we are supposed to do now. He said, in effect, that we are to suffer and be tortured as Jesus suffered and was tortured and hung on the Cross for us, that we must stay in solidarity with Him as He is in solidarity with us. I had been reading and trying to understand how I was to view all of this, about our Pope and the Bishops and all of it. It was so dark and depressing, People are lost and confused and angry and upset, afraid. What was I personally supposed to be doing? I can’t be some radical, angry person spouting off all the time, though I do understand other people in their fear and frustration. This weighs on me like a ton of bricks at times. I have said a few things in my own fear and frustration.
What this one priest boldly said to me helped me immensely. He is not your typical priest, and he passionately loves Jesus. He basically said we have to be humble, and stay in the truth of the 2000-year tradition and doctrine, and stressed the importance of the old Councils, such as Trent and Nicea, the fathers and doctors of the Church. Stay with them and with the Lord, come what may. Use discernment. Ask for wisdom. Pray for all of them. I used to spend a lot of time reading what our Pope, this or that Bishop said and did and reading comments from traditional Catholics. I have almost stopped doing this, though I keep up with it somewhat.

The prayer to St. Michael is beautiful. I have read it before, but never heard it said in church. I too am a convert to Catholicism–quite recent, have just finished RCIA. The only parish available to me is very weak on tradition. We don’t ever say the Mea Culpa, and sometimes the priest even forgets to begin the Mass with the sign of the cross. Thank you, Pam and lovely, for your words here. I agree with both of you.

Welcome to the Catholic Church Tundra 🙂 .
I was blessed with a wonderful priest who became a good friend and my godfather. He was raised Catholic, left the church to pursue a career in science. He eventually returned to the Church because he was missing something in his life, then he realized he was called to be a priest.
He was great at answering questions and hearing what I was really asking when I wasn’t even sure myself about what I was looking for.
We have lost touch over the years but I would love to hear his opinion of our pope and the state of the church. I suspect he would say “The pope is no less in need of prayers than you lovely” and then smile broadly at checking me.

Welcome, sister. Please please don’t let what I said hurt your faith in any way. I came to the Church almost without having contact with any living, faithful Catholic. Maybe that happens a lot, but when I look back on it, it seems sort of strange. I knew Catholics who weren’t really being Catholic, most of whom had left the Church. I knew one Catholic who was still faithful, my husband’s sister. But she never really talked to me about becoming Catholic. I had some experiences that were not really of this world, after the disaster I had made of myself, then I began to search for understanding of the experiences and what was happening inside me. I found it in the lives of saints and in reading different things about the Church, a long study of the Bible. The Holy Spirit slowly but surely led me. The day of my Confirmation was just about the happiest day of my human life. I felt like a bride, even more that way than the day I married my wonderful husband. I had very good RCIA with an excellent priest who also teaches college courses and has written articles and books. I was very fortunate. He taught from the Catechism and he strictly followed the correct rite for the Novus Ordo Mass. I thought every parish church would be like his! He was so strict that ushers would not let people walk in late if prayers were being said or one of the readings was going on. They had to wait.
It wasn’t until after my Confirmation that I even began to know what was going on today in the Church. No one ever lied to me or misled me. Sort of amazing, really. I think I was shielded. It doesn’t matter, when you get to the bottom of everything. If God called you here, it was for you and for the time such as this. We each have our part to do in the Mystical Body. I had to learn more, because I did not want to end up going off in a wrong direction, but I know the Lord knows my heart and sends me what I need to stay on track.

Thank you, Pam. It sounds like you had the RCIA experience that I hoped to have but did not. Mine was led by a deacon at a 5th grade level of rigor, whose abiding principles were “We don’t want to make anyone uncomfortable” and “There are no wrong answers.” I thank our Lord daily for the two teachers who made such a difference to me, Menagerie and my RCIA sponsor.
I also pray daily for resolution of The Great Matter (an annulment) which prohibits my Confirmation. Any prayers toward that end which you (and lovely, and ZurichMike, and anyone else) can add are greatly appreciated.

Orlando nightclub shooting a “mass casualty situation”: police
http://nypost.com/2016/06/12/multiple-injuries-reported-after-florida-nightclub-shooting-cops/
ORLANDO, Fla. — A gunman wielding an assault-type rifle and a handgun took hostages and opened fire inside a crowded Florida nightclub, killing approximately 20 people dead and wounding 42 others before dying in a gunfight with SWAT officers, police said Sunday.
Gunman shot dead by police.
I don’t know anything else I just read this at the Post.

According to the Daily Mail (and the Guardian too, I think), the FBI is treating this as an Islamist terrorist attack.
An FBI spokesman said the mass shooting is being investigated as an act of terrorism. He explained authorities are looking into whether this was an act of domestic or international terror, and if the shooter was a lone wolf.
Police said the gunman was believed to be in his 20s was not a local man, and the FBI believe he may have ‘leanings to radical Islamic terrorism’.

Thanks Stella. If it is an Islamic terrorist attack the liberal elites are going to have a rough time covering their eyes on this one as it is a well known gay nightclub.
My fear is that it may be a Westboro type of nutter and the media will use it to attack conservatives and liberty. The immediate information that it is a terrorist attack is interesting as they usually don’t use the T word until they are painted into a corner.
Prayers for all the victims.
I read that the terrorist shot one of the officers in the head and his kevlar helmet saved his life.

Liverals won’t have any problems at all, they’ll just call this yet another case of gun violence and saying this never would/could have happened had the assault weapons and hi-cap magazines not have been available. Had there been restrictive gun control and more outreach programs to make Moslems more accoeted into US communities while being more accepting of Moslem culture this event would never have happened.
This was a troubled young man who misunderstood his religion of peace and acted outside of its tenets. The cherry-picked Moslem representitives we have brought to feed you the standard explainations and assist you in your denial will be here to service your fears.

There is a whole thread next door. What I find interesting is that just a few years ago in Seattle there was a Muslim that tried to burn down a Gay nightclub with everyone inside on New Years eve, but that was just Arson. In this one, ISIS said they were going to do it in advance and the guy took hostages. The FBI has called it terrorism. I’m wondering if it’s terrorism only because the shooter is dead.

Any rifle round will make a hole that large, or larger, as thst’s whatbthey’re designed to do. Back in the days when the antigun crowd tried to ban all ‘armor piercing’ ammunition they wrote the definition of armor piercing to include just about every rifle round including all hunting rounds designed specifically for hunting.
Go back to the progs battle against the Black Talon pistol round. They whined and screamed against it as it opened up like a buzz saw, ripping and tearing through flesh as it spun into its target at a thousand RPM. The public, having no idea of thevtruth, buys their BS. Winchester, the maker of the Black Talon, basically kept the same round, just removing the black coating. So far no complaints from the same actors, they were just playing their part in the Great Game, even though the same rounds are still out there.
We have Islamic terrorism ramping up at the same time we are importing nearly (probably more at final count) a hundred thousand more from the heart of ISIS action territory. Howzat for sonething to mullah over? In 1942 were we importing a hundred thousand Germans from Germany or Japanese from Japan, saying that not all German were Nazis or Japanese followers of Japanese militarism? Who the hell designed this national suicide pact?

Upon further reflection, let’s go back to that formative 90s period in US terrorism. Ruby Ridge, the OKC bombing, the Order, Waco…they formed the prog’s basis for the government’s defining of US terrorism as white, Christian, conservative and government-haters. Clinton cemented the connection and made killing them en masse an accepted tactic. During 911 the entrenched prog system tried to shift the blame for the murders from Islamic terrorists to Jews and insiders in the Bush government. It continues in the Obama reign.
So let’s get on with the Administration punishing regular US citizens for the sins of others. Let’s make this a gun control, mental health, lack of inclusiveness or whatever event. Let’s see if more suppression of anti-Moslem ‘hate speech’ and more forced inclusiveness will solve the problem, if you can’t reeducate the truth speakers, Muslim.

Yes, and watch the apologists start saying that homosexuality is not named as a sin anywhere in the Koran and is not punished by death. Twistbhere is that’s based on the Moslem excuse that these errors are due to faulty translation and the Koran can only be truly understood in its native Arabic. It also ignores the fact that the Hadith holds an equally important position and various writings by respected (by Moslems) Sharia legal authorities.
The smoke screens will be fast and furious in trying to protect Islam and its terrorist…whoops, deluded me bers of the religion of peace, followers.

Since Islam has no central authority it is not reasonable to say or assume this man is less correct in his views than any other Muslim cleric. They can have a free for all on interpretations of the Koran, Hadith, and tea leaves and no one can refute any of it.
If I considered Islam a religion I would find that to be a flaw. Since they are the propaganda division of Mideast terrorism, I guess it’s a case of the more, the merrier.

My head would explode, but it already did that a few years ago. I have assimilated as much as my brain can assimilate, as far as using information to get at truth. I have processed as much as my brain can process. My opinion is that all of this comes together…all of it from politics, societal insanity, Muslim barbarians, tyrants, ideologies, globalists, etc etc. It melds into a picture so vast that I don’t think the human brain can take it all, every bit of it, and totally put it together. Maybe if you had an IQ off the charts, I don’t know. Or maybe my opinion is totally flawed.
I had to get my brain to stop exploding, because it was just too much. People may slot the various incidents into categories in their minds – this is Islam, this is progressive ideology, this is whatever. To me, although I can slot it in, it’s also like a million drops of poisoned water all going into one huge reservoir of poisoned water.
I read some of the comments next door. Some people are hugely shocked, furiously angry, crying, blaming Obama and Clinton. Wee’s map here is one of the best things I’ve seen. I grieve that more people have just been slaughtered. Another big drop of poison.

Pam, I know what you mean. This has been bothering me because every once in a while my mind wants to sort all these things out to make them make sense. And, they just won’t. Gays fought for gay marriage, etc. and at the same time for rights for muslims. They just don’t know what they are doing. How can they not see?
LikeLiked by 4 people
Apparently human beings are very capable of holding in their minds different patterns of thought and experiences that will not fit together, will not work together and will not hold up under logic. How can an abused wife love her husband and stay to take abuse? There are a million examples. Maybe many of us human beings tend to lie to our own selves, giving ourselves motives and rationalizations to think or do things that are totally contradictory. Or we don’t even go to the point of seeing the contradictions within ourselves. I think it’s very hard to see the truth about our own selves, and can we ever see the whole truth? Remember that young man, the one who went to college and flunked out? We were talking about that next door the other day.
The way our brains work fascinates me. “They” haven’t got it figured out yet and probably never will fully. I think of some of it as little cubbyholes inside. Things are put into different cubbyholes and they don’t necessarily connect with each other. They could connect, I believe, but maybe it takes some big event or shock, like the college kid had. The beginning of my big shock was the realization I actually was an alcoholic. How can an alcoholic have such strong denial, for years, and not see the truth? Believe me, they can. It is astounding. The denial of an alcoholic is an absolutely real thing. Once I had the big shock, then years went by as I learned more and more about my ability to deceive myself. My faith, spurred into life and action by the shock, tells me that God was behind any self-knowledge I may have gained.
So, it doesn’t make sense to you, maybe, because it WON’T make sense. People outside a situation can see it in others and we don’t get it: “how can they not see?” (How could I not see, for years, that I was a chronic drunk? On the IQ tests in college, I scored pretty high, but it didn’t make any difference. I thought I was just so smart, so superior in intellect — what a joke.)

Each of us runs scripts in our heads – scripts about who we are and what we can be. It takes something (could be outside influence, or a traumatic event) to change that script, or at least allow you to question it.

Movement by Moslem terrorist groups is towards ‘lone wolves’ as they are cheaper to deal with, less likely to be caught, inspire the government to be more repressive towards its citizens, they can cliam agreement with the actions while not being tied to them…it’s a win-win for the bad guys.
The goverment’s at all levels have spent far more time whitewashing terrorist groups here than it has quashing them and I don’t think for a second that this event will cause them to change course.

Local press is finding Moslem-neutral speakers for the nightly news as the city is heavily gay and has a rather large Moslem community. Also sorta prancing around the fact that this is gay pride month and the city’s big gay celebration in the largely gay French Quarter starts later this coming week and goes thry the weekend. Bet NOPD’s getting its orders to make damn sure there are no incidents during this fest. Mayor sees his limited political future hanging on there not being an incident,
Lrt’s not forget that come the Labor Day weekend the city hosts Southern Decadence, a six day gay fest that draws in thousands of LGBT from around the US and a few internationally. No one’s mentioning that but I called it a Fundamentalist magnet years ago – another headache for NOPD and the mayor.

It looks like what is currently taught and accepted as history of them is almost the exact opposite of what they were in reality. I know there have been attempts to draw parallels to the immigration explosion of the 1850s, the American Party platform and Trump, but as I wrote, reality is quite a bit different.

The Moslem like the Left because the Left helps them in their battle against the Right. Both hate the Right more than they dislike each other and will deal with each other once they’ve nu.lified the Right. Problem is the Left won’t have the wherewithall to dealnwith the Moslems as they will need to ve dealt with. Left is badically the new coffeshop and worn loafer Left while the Moslems are…ohhh…ISIS, al Qaeda, Jamaat al fuqra, Muslim Brotherhood….
At some point while the Left is celebrating their joint destruction of the Right their Moslem comrades will be planning their own Night of the Long Knives.
