On the eve of World War II the United States was still mired in the Great Depression and found itself facing war on two fronts with Japan and Germany. However bleak the outlook, it was nothing compared to the outlook today.

Wish I was there.
Caterin’ fo’ two hunnit, on the morrow.
Big-a$$ tent. Lots of balls. That we Duck-Taped™ to said tent ceiling by their differently-lengthed fishing line strings. Four different size balls. I hate Pinterest now. Imagine how much tape. Imagine tying the fishing line to said tape, then reinforcing resultant bowtie to a gorsh-durened TENT CEILING on top of a 13-foot ladder.
I hope it rains tomorrow. I just worked twelve hours for love.
Someone else’s. And also for money.

Seventy balls, all told.
I hate 13′ fiberglass ladders. My back and neck do, too.

I also think it’s really cool that we have an economy in which people are willing and able to pay other people to tie up 70 paper-and-wire balls to tent ceilings for low wages.
Except those last three words.

Excellent article at Zero Hedge:
http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2016-06-09/predicting-efficacy-coming-revolution
The Ghost of Revolution Future
Many in the US talk of revolution. Most hope for a soft revolution, in which their country would go back to the good old days of traditional values, hard work, the rights of the individual and a productive society.
Not likely to happen, I’m afraid. The first American revolution resulted in that very outcome, but that was (in my opinion) because the colonists had no entitlement society to begin with. They went to America as pioneers and each was his own champion. They therefore accepted hard work, self-reliance and treasured individual rights. After the revolution, the US went into a long, highly productive period, because the great majority of Americans shared this view.
Unfortunately, that’s no longer true in America. “Freedom” is a concept that sounds good to all, but, with it come great responsibilities – responsibilities that a majority of citizens are unlikely to accept after the revolution. Just as in France, they will want to be assured that, although they want their own freedom, they want to limit the freedom of others; so that others be forced to contribute to “the greater good.”
Once the concept that your neighbour is obligated to sacrifice his freedom to satisfy your needs or desires is ingrained in a people, it’s virtually impossible to remove. If we seek true change, we’re only likely to find it in locations that are truly starting over, without the baggage of an entitled population to mire the rebirth of the new regime.
The last paragraph says it all.

“but that was (in my opinion) because the colonists had no entitlement society to begin with. “
This was not true. Some of the cities in the colonies had been there already for more than 100 years and were quite large. There were plenty of people that were “entitlement society” type at the time.
Keep in mind 50-60% of the population in the colonies did not participate in the revolution. Some actively apposed it. There were also other groups wanting to take control of the revolution and have it more like the French. Their strategy is to see who wins, and attack the weakened victor. The French revolution supporters are the ones that later became named “socialist” and “communist”…
What I’ve read from the time period on this subject is that Christian values and morals (knowing right from wrong) and the continued instruction of them is what kept things from going out of control. The decline of them at the time in France and is what allowed French revolution to happen.

I’m sorry sir, but I’ve only been around horses at a state fair when I was a toddler. I don’t think I’d know how to fall off one correctly after beating myself in the head while swinging a rope around.

You’re never too old to learn.
Which reminds me of another funny recent story at the rodeo. Rodeos bring out all the wanna be cowboys and cowgirls. Someone loans them a horse or heck maybe it’s their horse they only ride when the rodeo comes to town, so they can entertain the audience riding in the entrance. I honestly don’t think that is their goal, but I’m always entertained because there is always that one person.
This person happened to be a rather large woman and you could tell she was scared for her life as she rode around the arena with both hands gripping the reins and the saddle horn with a death grip and her body bouncing every which way. Poor horse was getting all kinds of mixed signals with her jerking the reins at the same time her bouncing body was causing her legs to kick him.
I think it was a relief for not only her, but him when it was time to exit the arena. Once they were out he let her know he had enough and decided to remove her from his back. He was polite and waited until only a few of us could see her hit the ground. She hits the ground and is laying there while her horse decides to run away to find his safe place, bucking the entire way.
Thankfully a cowboy riding by grabs his reins and stops him and the horse had found his safe place and calmed down and was nudging the man thanking him for saving his life. Then the woman comes trying her best to run, the poor horse looks at the man with a look of betrayal when he passes the reins to the woman.
He didn’t want to leave his safe place without a fight though and he rares up and paws the air, it worked for a second she let go of the reins and the cowboy calms him down again and then betrays him again and passes the reins back to the woman, he decides his fate has been sealed and must leave with the woman, but not without showing her she ain’t gettin’ back on him so he bucks all the way until her friend who I think loaned her the horse comes and leads him away.

My Daddy taught me at a young age that a horse won’t step on you if it can help it, but he was talking about broke horses. That’s pretty much true with any horse I ever had even the ornery ones who tried to knock me off with tree branches, dump me in the pond or buck me off. When they succeeded they usually just stood and looked at me like they were laughing. The exception was one old clumsy horse I had and she was always stepping on my feet.
In my younger days falling off a horse just hurt my pride, now in my older years it hurts every inch of my body. I don’t ride much anymore because even riding tends to make me hurt. lol

Well the ball fields are owned by the city and if you ever saw some of the city workers, including those elected like the mayor you would just nod your head. Although calling him a worker is stretching it, but it keeps his family members employed so I guess you could call him an employer.
LikeLiked by 2 people
Mayors aren’t workers, if they were they wouldn’t be politicians. When you see a pol with calloused hands or dirty fingernails (callouses/dirty nails from raking in cash don’t count), lemme know.

I’m just repeating how he’s always saying how hard he works for the city. Of course he’s also the one who fought for and received making it a full time position with a full time salary. For years folks were able to hold down a full time job and be mayor and get paid a tenth of what he now receives after his third or maybe even fifth raise now.
That’s what happens when less than 25% of the citizens come out and vote.

Lord, what have we done to so mightily offend Thee? Today is the (retch) annual World Naked Bike Ride in New Orleans. Gaggles (emphasis on the ‘gag’) of Walmartians who’ve already finished their shopping will gather late this afternoon, shed all or still far too much of their clothing and bicycle through a designated part of the city to draw attention to world problems. Imagine a group of middle-aged people well over their max BMIs, buck naked or still too near so, riding their bicycles sloooooowly over bumpy New Orleans streets. Suddenly causes a drastic reorganizing of what constitutes the hierarchy of ‘world problems’, eh?
Not all of the participants can be catagorized as people the UN should internationally ban from apoearing mostly, if not totally, naked in public but the bell curve here’s pretty flat. I never did understand the desire for that group of fluffy, middle-aged, or both exhibitionists to disrobe in public. Come on, for 364 days a year you get arrested for only wearing a smile in public, even Mardi Gras Day has a total nudity ban, but for this one day the sartorially challenged get to ride.
Ah well, at least this is one event we won’t see the mayor, Mitch Landreau, attending – be thankful for small favors.

I finally got one of my reps paid callers to talk to me. She actually allowed me to address the points that he’s pro-life and voted to defund PP, pro-border security and against amnesty, spending, Obamacare and pro-small business.
I asked her if she was aware that although he did vote to defund PP, he later voted to fund PP. He voted for the omnibus bill which funded all the spending including Obamacare, Obama’s amnesty and increased work visas among other spending. Then he came back home and lied to us and told us him and his people went through the entire bill and it contained more positives than negatives and it really didn’t fund Obamacare neither did it fund amnesty because until Obama put pen to paper there was no amnesty and you only spend the money to deport them and it costs nothing to keep them here. As for small business it appears he’s pro-small business when it comes to his company that has grown in size and profits after he went to Washington. It expanded faster in 2 years than it had since it’s existence when his Dad started it years ago.
She could tell him that is just a few of the reasons I voted against him 2 years ago and is why I’ll be voting for his opponent this year.
She then told me she wasn’t aware he voted that way, but she would check into it and pass my concerns along to his campaign.
Yeah, yeah I know it went in one ear and out the other and didn’t amount to a hill of beans, but it was the first time anyone from his campaign or his office has ever let me finish a sentence. lol

Please don’t discuss your problems with “the neighbors” on this blog. Some people have the impression that I have a blog only because I am running away from CTH, or that I am in competition.
That isn’t true, and I am still an admin for CTH; therefore, I don’t appreciate discussion about their moderating decisions. You, of course, have a right to your opinions and feelings, but I really don’t want to see it in print here.
