It may be the illusive “happy chicken” that Michelle mentioned a while back. The millennials believe they lay happy eggs 🙂

I love the ones who want eggs from happy chickens and then have to ask, “is that a hen?”
We had a guy out looking at goats and 3 times he asked the same question about the same rooster, “is that hen?” 3 times I told him, “no that is a rooster.” Finally he said, “he looks happy I bet he lays you lots of eggs!”
Then all I could hear was my husband in the hog pen laughing. So I told him that he was watering the hogs and one must have told him a funny joke. lol

Years ago my husband’s nephew was at our house, he was around 13 or 14 at the time and my oldest son was around 5. The nephew was a city boy through and through and he asks my daughter what color eggs this particular rooster laid.
My son says, “are you stupid that’s a rooster.”
I got on to my son, but I was laughing while doing so.
I often find myself wanting to ask that question.

One of the farms up the road has a HUGE black angus bull and every now and then I’ll see a city visiting family out there just calling it over to pat it. Thing has to be on xanax as when it does come over it just puts its head over the top wire on the four-wire barbed wire fence and let’s ’em pat it’s nose. I keep on waiting to see a smiling bull, a few red greasy spots on the ground and an empty car.

The other night at the rodeo a family was looking at the bucking bulls before the rodeo. They were whistling at them and trying to get them to come to the fence.
One of the bulls was ornery I had already saw him a couple of times charge the fence at a few cowboys walking by.
He was getting annoyed at them and started pawing the ground. They were laughing and telling their kids he was telling them hi.
If it had just been the adults I would have sit back and watched, but one of the kids had his head stuck through the rails so I told them he wasn’t saying hi and they better get that kid out of the fence.
He had barely got back before the bull charged the fence.
I guess they were the type who either can’t read or think signs don’t apply to them because a sign was up that said don’t let your kids climb on the fence.
I remember a time when kids didn’t need a sign they had enough sense to not play with bulls.

We still have a county fair with a large livestock exhibit. My GGS was about three when I took him there nd he devided to pet the chicken. I still have the just-before and immediately-after pics of him trying to put his finger on a game cock. Never tried that again.

My husband has an ornery streak a mile wide.
He used to always keep a few game hens around, he always claimed because they were good setters, but I knew differently.
He kept them because game hens are as mean as the devil when they have chicks. He loved for folks to want to pick up one of the cute little chicks knowing they were going to get flogged up one side and back down the other.
I can’t tell you how many teenagers over the years he told, “sure you can pick up a chick if you can catch it.”

Oh and as for the county fairs when my kids showed part of it was they had to answer questions asked by people who came walking through the barns.
You wouldn’t believe some of the questions they were asked. People literally couldn’t tell the difference between a hog and a cow, much less a sheep from a goat.
The first time my daughter had to deal with one she asked if people didn’t have see ‘n says as kids.

My brother had a dairy farm, and in the beginning, he used to keep a bull (to keep the cows happy, I guess). Well, my niece jumped off the fence onto the bull’s back one day, and was lucky she wasn’t hurt. I think that was the end of the bull.

People have just become so urbanized they’re completely seperated from what they eat. I’m debating if I’m going to get acgame covk or a Rhode Island Red rooster to sit with the laying hens. I’m basically looking for so e testosterone-fueled chicken who’ll throw himself at any critter that comes chicken shopping. Only thing that bothers me is a farm across the lake, from the crowing, must be raising game cocks so it’s probably gonna be a bit noisy.

Never thought I’d see the day when you couldn’t recite a rosary in church. If the Muslim migrants are offended by the recitation of prayers, why are they in the church to begin with?

It’s amazing. Happening in Italy, in a church, because of a Catholic organization and obviously with the full support of the parish priest.
I don’t make too many statements that are as definitive as this about others, but I will say that I am absolutely positive that two of our priests, and very likely the third as well would have to be removed from the parish before this happened in my church. However, I cannot say that about any other priest I know except one little old Irishman who just returned to his home country for retirement.

how come Muslims get to crawl up in tall towers with massive loudspeaker systems and Broadcast a Muslim”Call to Worship” all over the neighborhood….? Does anyone care who gets “offended” or disturbed by that intrusion??
LikeLiked by 3 people
The rosary, whenever possible is to be said it is an external prayer as much as an internal prayer as Catholics believe that it cleanses the very air that feels it.
I would have told the Caritas volunteers and the priest that they could join me in praying the rosary to God Our Father, or they could join the migrants in their prayers to the God of Muhammad.
I am very respectful of others, very respectful of priests, but I would hope that I would have the the strength not to turn my back on my God for man. Any man.
In this case I don’t know if the Muslims would have physically attacked the christians for praying a christian prayer in their christian church perhaps they would have, I am happy to live in a conceal carry state. Who knows there may have been a miracle. And maybe the Muslims would have just gone back to whatever it is they are doing there.

Good morning! Weather is downright nippy here this morning. According to this article, we were the coldest state in the country yesterday:
http://www.wnem.com/story/32169406/the-ac-is-onoutside
We can thank our most recent storm system for that. The system’s sprawling circulation near Hudson Bay tapped into cold polar air in northern Canada, pulling it south into the northern Plains and Great Lakes.
Well, it IS cool, but beautiful. We’ve had rain (most of it at night too), so everything is green and beautiful, the sky is blue with big fluffy white clouds, and a breeze is blowing. Great day to air out the house.
I’ll bet sailing would be good, but downright bracing, today!
Good news for DJT – he’s well over 1,500 delegates going into the convention. That will make it extremely difficult (if not impossible) to challenge him at the convention.

A summer staple, tomato pie. This one’s from my favorite Creole chef, John Folse, and I’m definately going to make it this summer as mine come in. If you don’t have crawfish tails you can use shrimp or, as I’m gonna try, BACON! If you don’t have andouille sausage try a good smoked polish sausage or even ham. Don’t forget to let thise sliced tomatoes sit and drain or the pie will be more soggy than pie. If the tomatoes have thick/ tough skin you can peel them but you have to handle them carefully when assembling the pie.

What I see in most commercial tomatoes is the field owners flooding the fields judt enough before the harvest for the tomatoes to suck up that extra water increasing the yield weight andvhelping them keep their shape as they trundle off to market. I think of it as the veggie version of meat ‘treated with up to 10% salt water to increase corporate profits’. I usually buy romas off-season for just the reason you said, they’re also cheaper.

Look at Folse’s site fr Cajun recipes. He actually wrote a tome on Cajun coking that includes history, recipes in a book so large you can use to humanely stun a jog for slaughter. Prudhomme was Creole .Cajun with a penchant for causing 3rd degree burns of the palate. I loved the man and his cooking, have every one of his books and ate at his place/events whenever we could but his recipies were not for the casual diner, Folses are a joy for the tongue sans the need for a for a extinguisher.

Well, I’m not one to get up inside the church where Mass is held and the Tabernacle is present, then start making a ruckus. The sanctuary with the Tabernacle and consecrated host in it is holy space. If they were in a community hall or someplace else at the church when they were told this, that would change things. It sounded like they were all mixed in together. The Caritas volunteers were totally out of line and had no right whatsoever to try to enforce their ideas on Catholics wanting to gather to pray the Rosary. Actually, the article does not make a lot of sense anyway. Where were they trying to pray the rosary? The illegal migrants are “living” in the Church? Where in the Church? Sleeping in the pews? It sounds like the priest was in agreement with Caritas, but maybe he was just a wimp, trying to placate everyone. The priest could have had the whole thing forced on him, or maybe not. There’s not enough clear information.
It would have been a good thing if the parishoners stood together and said “we’re going into the church and saying the Rosary in the presence of the Lord, and you can take the people you’re responsible for to a part of the grounds where they can’t hear us, if it’s such a problem for them.” But they may have just been a few old ladies, used to following directions…who knows? One lady did try to do something.

I tried and tried but I can’t come up with any situation under which any member of the clergy, a volunteer, janitor or food truck vendor could come into my church and tell me to pray silently as it disturbs members of some belief system that has been murdering members of my religion in the name of their religion by the millions. Turn the other cheek has never meantbto me that I should let anyone do unto me as I crawl on the ground and beg their forgiveness for my very being offending them.
Where’s the Pope here?

I spent 45 minutes on a reply, but forgot to copy it before I posted. It went into oblivion.
It is outrageous and I totally agree. The Caritas person had no authority to do this.
The Pope will most likely never hear about this. The hierarchical structure is very complicated. I am not really well-qualified to explain it. The Pope is Pope, but he is a Bishop among Bishops, just with extra authorities and responsibilities. The Pope is the Bishop of Rome. (The rest of what the Office means is very involved.) The Bishop of a Diocese basically has autonomy. He runs the show in his diocese. Many Bishops do not agree at all with the Pope’s ideas of how to help illegal migrants. The Bishop decides what he will do or not do, when it comes to something like this. The priest of a Diocese gives a vow of obedience to his Bishop, and has to do what the Bishop says (excluding, of course, some totally criminal thing or, if it really gets down to the nitty-gritty, something absolutely heretical which would damn the priest’s soul.) Priests have ways of working around some things, but if the Bishop said the people were going to be housed for a time in that church, that might be hard to change.
For lack of a better term, there are “liberal” bishops, orthodox “conservative” bishops, political bishops, cowardly bishops, all kinds because there are all kinds of humans. So it was probably just the Bishop who made the decision to put those people in his parish church. The priest, imo, should have stood up for his parishoners, but we don’t know the whole story. This matter should go to the Bishop, who will decide. That Bishop may do nothing, he may stop the nonsense, or he may decide something you and I and many other Bishops and Catholics would vehemently disagree with.
In the U.S., there are Diocesan Bishops who are all into social justice, poor immigrants thinking. They push it to varying degrees. Some are wishy-washy, or worldly-minded. Other Bishops do not agree or think this way, and this stuff doesn’t go on in their parish churches. What we get from the media is skewed, because the stories they write are almost always about the liberal, social justice issues, or homosexual priests, or LGBTwhatever juicy stuff. They have no interest in writing about good, solid bishops and priests who love God and want to be the good shepherd, following Jesus.

Wow. A pair of Meadowlarks had a nest in my tool shed. Now this afternoon two chicks came out to learn to fly. Then there was a big Corn Snake after one of the chicks so I grabbed him and threw him way over by the Tangerine Tree and saved the chick. I never saw this before. They fly a little more further every tim and Mom and Pop Meadowlark are all over it.

How do the parents get them back into the nest?

That’s what the corn snake was for.

They do not. They have to fly or die I think.

Indian prime minister Modi addressed Congress today, invited by Paul Ryan and not Obama to speak. News wasn’tvreally covering it but did touch on the ‘problems of free navigation’ in the Pacific and Indian Ocean area. On the agenda is rebuilding Afghanistan, better read by folhs like Ryan as preventing it from becoming a fundamentalist state once again, this time Much better armed with US weapons and aligned with Pakistan. With 300-million ( who’s counting) Moslems already living in India a resurgent Pakistan backed by Afghanistan, the other ‘Stans’ not being heard from yet, India has some worries.
China is a joint Number One issue here, it has already started strategically surrounding India by setting up joint-use commercial-military bases in the Indian Ocean to block the Indian navy and control Indian Ocean sea lanes. I’m waiting for China to start aligning with Moslem nations surrounding India, setting up joint navy operations that will benefit both of them.
By mid-century India will have a larger population than China and a much younger one. China’s ‘one child’ policy and economic conditions put child bearing to the rear while India just bred on. To have India on our side both unstated anti-China and anti-Moslem fundamentalist alliances is a good move. Probably why a Republican and not a Moslem ass-kisding POtuS initiated it.

Stella, I love the new banner at the top. I’m naturally really comfortable with that.

I’m not positive, but I think it was taken somewhere along the Lake Michigan shore.

Menagerie, I am watching Pati’s Mexican Table on PBS, and she is making Ebelskivers! Her son saw the pan and insisted on getting it. The ones they are making are chocolate, and they are filling some with jam, and some with caramel sauce (dulce de leche, maybe).

I can’t find word to explain this. My only thought is, should we even bother to care? Maybe we should wall these people off and let them annihilate each other. 😯
