There are a lot of Catholic hospitals out there. If the bishops don’t draw the line in the sand right here, right now and never give an inch, there is no legitimate Church left in the United States. I don’t see that happening.

I believe that for every public and private Nancy Pelosi and Joe Biden and Kennedy Catholic there are twenty who will fight passionately over this. Most importantly of all, we WILL cut off every single red cent to the Church in America. I don’t see liberal Catholics funding anything.

The Church has already closed many adoption agencies in states where they would be forced to allow gay adoption.

This is a well orchestrated battle.

I volunteer for the church but I haven’t given cash since the revelation that they covered up sexual savages and allowed them to harm child after child. We paid a huge settlement in WI to victims and then there was an appeal in the pews due to depleted funds.

I and several others talked to the priest and said this is a cost the Church should never had incurred, the people who allowed these horrific crimes to go on need to be thrown out and they need to sell off some assets to replace funds that were given in good faith for the maintenance and good deeds of the Church, not for damages caused by coddled pedophiles and their enablers.

We were told the new plea was not to replace the settlement money. It was a direct and absolute outright lie. I told the priest as much. He said I/we wouldn’t listen to reason.

        The Church is still flush.

Very, very, reliable word has it that Archbishop Dolan sat down to dinner with someone not long ago and he walked away with a $50 million dollar check. I believe the person who told me this as he is a personal friend of Dolan. I’m sure someone could check NY dioceses annual donations and that they are through the roof.

Remnants of the Church exist, Christ promised the gates of hell would not prevail against his Church but this pope is doing Satan’s work in many ways, whether he is duped or evil I do not know. He has not attempted to change Dogma but time is still at hand.

Will the Church fight this? I hope so. I’m not convinced. The world and the Church are upside down. Our local Catholic HS principal sported an Obama sign in his front yard which faced the school. The good news on that is that he was thrown out (contract not renewed) but we are a very conservative community.

    Fracking Nonsense, Debunked

Environmentalists who once praised natural gas as a “bridge fuel” predictably turned against hydraulic fracturing because it made gas cheap, abundant, and profitable—the three cardinal sins of green energy. (The first principle of “green energy” is that it isn’t acceptable unless it requires buckets of taxpayer cash to keep afloat, which thereby limits its abundance over time. And generates lots of the other kind of “green” for Al Gore and such.)

One of the attacks on fracking is that it causes earthquakes. An Oklahoma is one place where the anti-frackers are trying hardest to whip up hysteria. I stumbled across this four-minute video from Stanford University’s department of earth science that debunks this hysteria in remarkably sober tones, concluding that fracking his nothing to do with the wave of Oklahoma earthquakes. It’s something else at work:

Yes. Read it again because it was water, but they weren’t putting it back in the same place. That was the problem.

        Start around 1:06 to 2:30
        (problem in Oklahoma).

        The water is being placed
        into the Arbuckle Formation
        and then leaching into the
        Crystalline Basement, as a
        result of downward pressure.
This is where the plates are
located and the water acts as
        a lubricant and allowing the
        plates to slide easier. Hence,
        the increase in earthquakes.

I just watched an interview of Ron Kessler by Leland Vittert on FOX America’s Election HQ about the Whitehouse shooting yesterday. I can’t find a video of it yet. He said that it doesn’t appear that our Faux-Pres is very security conscious for himself or his family. It was recommended to him that he hire someone from the outside to take over security and that the fence be raised. He hired an insider who says he can have the fence replaced by 2018. (snicker) Vittert says he knows Trump and Trump would have it replaced in a week. There was more, too, but I have forgotten. Good interview. He says he is afraid of an assassination if these things are not taken care of.

      Let us not forget…

The unlucky survivors, including twenty-two Australian nurses, landed in lifeboats on the northern coast of Bangka Island and lit a bonfire to guide other survivors to them. Sister Vivian Bullwinkel was in this group of nurses. When the number of survivors at the bonfire reached about one hundred, it was decided that they should surrender to the Japanese. A party of male survivors went off to find Japanese. They were accompanied by civilian women and their children. The twenty-two Australian nurses stayed to look after the injured, and they made and erected a red cross to indicate to the Japanese that they were non-combatants.

A patrol of about fifteen Japanese soldiers arrived from the coastal township of Muntok. While some guarded the Australian nurses, the rest herded the male survivors, about fifty in number, down the beach and around a headland. The nurses heard gunfire from this direction, and shortly afterwards, the Japanese soldiers returned alone. Some were wiping blood from their bayonets.

The twenty-two Australian nurses were then ordered by the Japanese to form a line and walk into the sea. The women knew what was going to happen to them, but none panicked or pleaded for mercy. When the water had reached the nurses’ waists, the Japanese opened fire on them. Sister Bullwinkel was hit in the back by a bullet and knocked off her feet. Upon discovering that she was only wounded, she pretended to be dead. After some time had passed, she risked a glance at the beach and saw that the Japanese soldiers had gone. She looked around for the other twenty-one nurses and saw none. She was the only nurse who had survived the massacre.

When she reached the beach, she was joined by an English soldier who had survived the massacre behind the headland. Private Kingsley had been bayoneted by the Japanese and left for dead. They were given food by the local village women, but after two weeks, they realised that their position was hopeless, and they decided to walk to Muntok and give themselves up. Shortly afterwards, Private Kingsley died from the bayonet wound.

Realising that the lives of all survivors of the Vyner Brooke would be at risk if the Japanese discovered what she had seen, Sister Bullwinkel concealed her wound from the Japanese and treated it herself. She survived harsh imprisonment to give evidence of the massacre at a war crimes trial in Tokyo in 1947.

Never Trump does not own conservatism

    http://donsurber.blogspot.com/2016/05/never-trump-does-not-own-conservatism.html

However, the Never Trump crowd is another kettle of fish that need to be fried. If you write for the oldest conservative magazine in Washington (National Review) yes, you are are part of the Washington Establishment. That is how it works. If you are a Fox News contributor based in the nation’s capital, you are are part of the Washington Establishment. Ditto the Weekly Standard. Ditto a host of think tankers. Stop pretending you are some sort of renegade. You live in the American Versailles. You are part of it.

Backing Cruz is another tell-tale sign of Washington Establishmentarianism. Except for his five years as solicitor general of Texas, Cruz has spent his adult life in Washington, clerking for Chief Justice Rehnquist, working in the Bush 43 White House, and in the Senate. In between working in all three branches of government, he landed gigs at prestigious law firms and married a private wealth manager for Goldman Sachs who had gigs in the Bush 43 White House as well as at JP Morgan Chase and Merrill Lynch….

On a less contentious side, we had a family of toads that wintered in our garage. Come spring they all hopped their merry ways except one juvenile. S/he worked out that the garage provides a very comfortable pad, the lights draw in yummy insects, there are tidbits of cat food that hit the floor, overall it’s an amphibian Club Med.
now when we go out for our last look-around before we close up we see the toad just sitting there, right outside the door, snagging an occasional insect while s/he’s totally oblivious to us, the dogs or the cats. No movement, no recognition, no fear or concern. So come closing time we shoo the toad into the garage where it fonds a comfy roost until we open up in the morning when it hops out to start whatever a toad-day consists of.
