I’ve got ‘We were soldiers’ on dvd as well as most of Wayne’s films. When my ex-FIL was dying I asked if there was anything I could do for him and he wanted a copy of ‘She Wore a Yellow Ribbon’ so we found him one and overnighted it – he was THE Wayne fan.

BTW, my military idol was Roy Benavidez. He came up to Ft Meade just to talk to the troops mobilizing for Desert Shield, spent a head-banging night with him at the NCO club. Man was the most unassuming MoH winner, when you read about what he did and the scars carried … there was a hero and no one ever msde a movie about him.

Read his book, that gives a better account of what the man did, it stuns you. Over 40 years in the military, and 18 years as a dependent before that, and I only met three soldiers who’d ever been bayoneted, he was bayoneted more than the others combined. He lived through some 37 wounds that day, more than a few that should have been fatal but it took sone 13 years for him to receive the MoH.

Good but I still like the book, puts it in perspective as it goes into depth. The unit Roy wacwith was also part of the SOG program. BTW, we had a rededication of the Vietnam Memorial at the Dome and brought in as many MoH recipients as we could as honored guests. We had the largest assembly of MoH recipients outside of their MoH meetings and the time we got to spend with them was memorable.

Got to be at the shipyard in Pascagoula when the brought the Cole in and got to see her sail out when she’d been repaired. One of the bennies being attached to a Navy unit. Can’t figure out why, except for possibly Clinton’s concerns about pissing off the Arab oil sheiks while he was working on ‘donations’, we didn’t just wipe out selected targets as a warning. The Cole wasn’t the first attack on a US ship, AQ tried to bomb the Sullivans earlier that year but that failed and then we had that whole Bojinka plot a few years earlier, but for some strange reason Bill decided to let it slide. Some say he didn’t want to whack the son of a valued ling-time friend of the Saudi Royal Treasury…errr, Family, but nothing substantive was done.
Boggles the mind to think what would have happened were Gore to have been Presidentnon 911.

    Morning, everyone!

Another couple of Republican primaries today. If anyone reading here is in West Virginia or Nebraska, be sure to get out and vote!

Had rain over night, and it is coolish this morning; I’m thinking about closing the windows. It’s 53 degrees with a light wind, and overcast.

Our friend, Jack Cashill, has a piece in America Thinker this morning:

    Who Promoted Private Ryan?

    http://www.realclearpolitics.com/articles/2016/05/10/who_promoted_private_ryan_130521.html

    Just a couple teasers:

In millennial teen-talk, Ryan told CNN’s Jake Tapper, “I’m just not ready to do that at this point. I’m not there right now.” ….

Ryan is a congressman from Wisconsin. He has never won a statewide election. As number two on Mitt Romney’s ticket, he got waxed by Joe Biden. He was compromise choice as speaker, only after John Boehner went into in his Brer Rabbit “Zip-a-dee-doo-dah” routine.

Who made Ryan the conscience of conservatism?

Who made Ryan keeper of the keys of true Republicanism? ….

The hubris here astonishes. A Republican establishment that has been beaten as badly as Carthage in the Third Punic War is now making demands on Scipio Africanus and the victorious Romans.

    This is difficult to absorb.

Someone should instruct Paul Ryan that losers do not make demands. They make requests. They make pleas.

Let’s see what it looks like in a month or two. Right now I’m really tired of the loser’s team trying to excuse why they lost and the winners ocerstating their wins, we’re caught in the props wash of the promaries.
The MSM is making hay off of the turbulence from the primaries ending, the conventions coming up and the general elections just over the horizon; summer coming on along with the campaigns guarantees an abundant supply of hot air.

ARRRRGGGHHHHHH….seems that preceeds my discussing medical issues nowadays.
Somevyears bavk the Feds were proposing total transparency for medical records, easy digital access from any platform anywhere for the patient’s safety and convenience. Like anything the Feds have ever created to make life easier…
Over a year ago I decided to change primary care physicians to centralize my care in a facility more in line with the 20th century. October 2025 I apply for permission to kneel at the desk of the new PCF and get an appointment for the end of March 2016. In December I call to see if they’ve received all of my records from my various other physicians – nope, still not there. I get paper transfer forms, fill out one forceach facility or physician, hand-deliver them and wait….
March comes, I go to my new PCF and…..he looks into his computer and sees that some data have been received but it appears there’s been some sort of error scanning the paper copies in and none of it can be accessed. Not only is the appointment I waited 6 months for useless but I’m not sure what he hasn’t received and can’t find out until my next appointment in late June.
I talk to their records folks and I’m told that no, their systems are far from compatible, even though they can call up my previous hospital records system on line they can’t connect with it, can’t even send or receive data between the two systems. Any data transfers are done only by mailing paper.
The Feds were paying for the bulk of the costs associated with this conversion and the companies making the systems were supposed to make them compatible but…
It amazes me (OK, not really) that the doctors and hospitals can’t transfer patient information seamlessly but hackers have managed to steal some 90-million patient records over the last few years. Instead of jailing hackers maybe we should give them the contracts, they have the capability and have many of the records already.

My dad was in the Navy for 23 years. He and my mother traveled around the country after they retired. They had copies of all their medical files that they carried in the car with them all the time in case they needed medical care. Looks like you need to do that. Of course, the powers that be probably wouldn’t accept copies that you had, they would still say they needed to be transferred over the Internet………….even though they can’t be. Sound about right?

You got that tight. I tried to get my files downloaded to a flash drive but that was a no-go. Even if they would, I was told, their format might well not be compatable with the ‘receiving’ facility’s. I could carry a paper copy but it would be many pages long, not include imaging, and cost about fitty cents a page. ‘Just have them call’, they say.

President POtuS will be 1st sitting US President to visit Hiroshima. Appears his advisors have prevented him from apologizing for the perfidious actions of racist America in using the atomic bomb to prevent a people of color from reaching their full potential. He also planned on saying how much he enjoyed their chop suey and chow mein.

Wow!!!!! Budweiser’s gonna be acomin’ out in patriotic-themed cans/bottles this summer, they will have ‘Merkuh’…whoops, them’s local cans, ‘America’ on the label in place of Budweiser on its 12 ounce cans and bottles. The company’s ‘AB’ logo will also be replaced by ‘US’. The new cans will be available from 23 May until the November election. Their removal of ‘America’ for the election makes me wonder if they think Hillary’s going to win…
Geez, nuthin’ makes me feel more patriotic than swiggin’ a can of near-beer made by a Belgian company. Yeeee Haw!

I’m sick of painting and trying to do it while working and farm chores and watering, cooking, cleaning and washing clothes means there isn’t enough hours in the day. My feet hurt, my back hurts, my hand cramped up so many times that it’s now sore(I think I gave myself carpal tunnel) and I’m too tired too sleep.
I will say though my house sure is starting to look pretty.

Interesting sidebar on the murder of the Tulane grad syident I posted on. Police released a dhort portion of a grainy b&w security video a store from across the street from where the body was found, itshows the guy who found the body fibding it. The guy stands over him, seems to poke hom with his foot, then bends over to check the body. When the video was brand newcat noon the station on showed him doibg what looked like checking the body’s pockets, standing up and then doing what looks like putting somethong in his pocket – victim was found without his wallet and nothing was said about finding/not find a cell phone on him.
By the 5 PM news, and through the 10 PM news, the video is stopped either before the Good Sam reaches towards the victim’s waist or slightly after, none of the stations showed him standing up and reaching to his waist. Hmmmmmmm…..
