Eagle Forum members attempt coup to remove Phyllis Schlafly over Trump endorsement

Two days ago, I drafted the following post:

Gateway Pundit, April 7:

On March 11, 2016 conservative icon Phyllis Schlafly endorsed Donald Trump for President at his St. Louis rally.

But not everyone in her organization, Eagle Forum – or her family – agreed with Phyllis Schlafly’s decision.

Back on Feb 8th, Cathie Adams asked Phyllis Schlafly for her endorsement for Vice Chair of the Republican Party in Texas. Phyllis graciously gave Adams her endorsement.

Then in March Cathie Adams attacked Phyllis saying she was “manipulated” into endorsing Donald Trump.

Adams would not return Phyllis’s calls this week.
Back in everyone in her organization – or her family – agreed with Schlafly’s decision.

Today Cathie Adams was let go by Eagle Forum for disloyalty to the founder and her attempt at a rogue board meeting to take over the Eagle Forum Board.

Illinois Review, also April 7:

Not everyone in her organization – or her family – agreed with Schlafly’s decision.

Thursday, news of a growing organizational fissure was made public. One of Schlafly’s six children – Anne Cori – was ousted from the Missouri Eagle Forum Board Thursday morning for “disloyalty” to her mother.

“Today, the Missouri Eagle Forum Board met and voted to replace Anne Cori as member of that board.  This was the final step in the process because of Ann’s disloyalty to our founder of Eagle Forum, Phyllis Schlafly,” an update sent out by the group’s national director Ed Martin said Thursday.

A few months ago, the statement said, “Anne refused a request by Phyllis to step aside as President of Missouri Eagle Forum.”

Mrs. Cori chose instead to endorse U.S. Senator Ted Cruz.

In addition, Cathie Adams, who has travelled worldwide over the years representing Eagle Forum at United Nations meetings, was also publicly reprimanded by Schlafly. Adams is in the midst of a statewide campaign to leadership in Texas’ GOP.

Today, more information has come to light about this matter. According to The Daily Caller:

Longtime conservative activist Phyllis Schlafly has asked her daughter and five others to resign from the board of Eagle Forum after tension spread through the group over Schlafly’s endorsement of Donald Trump.

Schlafly asked board members Eunie Smith, Carolyn McLarty, Anne Cori, Rosina Kovar, Shirley Curry, and Cathie Adams to step down in an April 10 letter. Cori is Schafly’s daughter. All but Curry have endorsed Ted Cruz in the Republican presidential primary.

schlaflyletterOne of the members that Schlafly is asking to resign, Cathie Adams, has previously said that Schlafly’s endorsement “is going to be widely dismissed. At 91, it is just totally unfair to impose upon someone who has such a beautiful legacy. … I think this was very much a manipulation. When you’re 91 and you’re not out with the grass roots all the time, it is very much taking advantage of someone.”

I don’t think there is anything wrong with Phyllis’ mind. I know my own mother was as sharp as a tack at that age, and was still writing to her Congressional representatives about pending legislation.

Phyllis Schlafly gave an interview to Jerome Corsi at World Net Daily:

NEW YORK – Conservative icon Phyllis Schlafly confirmed to WND that six board members of her group Eagle Forum have called a special meeting Monday that she believes is an attempt to remove her as CEO and board chairman because of her support for Donald Trump’s campaign for the White House.

“This may be my Dobson moment,” Schlafly told WND, referring to the 2010 board vote that forced James Dobson, founder of Focus on the Family, to discontinue his popular national radio show.

“The six board members calling today’s telephone meeting won’t tell me what the meeting is about, but I think it’s an attempt to vote me out,” Schlafly said. “It’s disloyal and it’s terribly shocking, and I’m completely depressed about it.

“I may be one vote short to win today,” she conceded….

Schlafly said the board meeting was called by only three members, and Eagle Forum lawyers are arguing that three members are not enough, according to the by-laws, to call a meeting of the board.

“This is a complete takeover attempt,” she said.

“I think the leader of the coup is my daughter Anne Cori and her husband at Eagle Forum of Missouri,” Schlafly said. “I think she and her husband want to take over the organization.”

Her son John Schlafly, the treasurer of Eagle Forum and a board member, explained to WND that among the six board members calling the meeting are several “who feel Donald Trump is unacceptable as the GOP presidential candidate in 2016.”

Ms Schlafly’s son, John, explained:

…. Monday’s vote is regarding the 501(c)4, educationally oriented non-profit organization of Eagle Forum, not the 501(c)3 organization that allows it to support political issue campaigns.

“The two organizations have different boards,” John explained, “and those opposing Phyllis only have a majority in the 501(c)4.”

But the problem is that the 501(c)4 controls the name Eagle Forum, meaning the future of the organization will be uncertain if the 501(c)4 ousts Phyllis Schlafly as its chairperson and CEO.

Please read the lengthy article at World Net Daily for all of the facts known to date.

And neither do they, if Phyllis had endorsed Ted Cruz they would all be singing her praises and the glory of her wisdom.
