  5. I hope everyone has a safe and happy day. It’s already the end of the month! My dogwoods are blooming and the fig bush is budding out too. Looks like I’ll have to go tomato plant hunting soon. Here in Georgia, we have to get those tomatoes out early so they can handle the heat!

Tung trees are in bloom, stone fruit and early azaleas are in flower and crab apples are counting down. I have a garage and family room full of tomato and pepper sets waiting until I can plow the mud.
Thought about using indeterminate tomatoes and shade cloth to fight the heat? Extends my harvest into the hotter than hades part of the summer. I put in a partial row of indeterminates under reusable shade cloth to keep me in toms that don’t have that blah Big Box store taste.

      • Good idea, Czar, will keep it in mind. I only plant about 5 plants each year. Just enough for DH and I. I usually grow heirloom varieties, but some years the yield isn’t as much as we would like. Last year, a high school student sold my DH a small (6) bunch of plants to him that they started in the school agriculture program. They did great! We were giving tomatoes away to everybody we know.
I think one of my fav’s is yellow pears. They are delicious. I also one year fell in love with “Thai pink egg”, I’ve never had so any toms off one plant, but can’t seem to find them anymore. My fault for not keeping seeds!

A few like that shouldn’t be a problem, we do about 120 feet of them and that gets to be a drag – as the Czarina reminds me well into December. I amend the soil with a commercial solution made from shrimp shells and this year I’m trying one that’s made out of ground and dried seaweed. Also put all of the compostable kitchen scraps out there, critters foraging help till in the off season.
I grow largely Heinz varietals (oen pollinated varieties) and the Amish tomatoes. We can a lot and they tend to have more meat, great eaters too.

JUST IN: Greta to Host a Town Hall With Donald Trump Sunday Night

    http://insider.foxnews.com/2016/03/31/greta-van-susteren-hosts-wisconsin-town-hall-donald-trump-sunday-night-april-3

Fox News Channel has just announced that Greta Van Susteren will host a town hall with Donald Trump on Sunday night, airing at 8:00pm ET.

The one-hour event in Milwaukee will come just two days before the Wisconsin primary on Tuesday, April 5.

The Republican presidential frontrunner will take questions from the On the Record host, as well as from voters in a live audience setting.

As the 33rd state to hold a primary or caucus this cycle, Wisconsin will play an important role in the presidential contest, with 42 delegates up for grabs.

Van Susteren, a native of Appleton, Wisconsin, is the longest-serving cable news anchor and “On the Record” is the number one cable news program in its time slot.

What do Martha Stewart and enemy combatant Ali Saleh Kahlah Al-Marri have in common? They were both indicted, under Title 18, United States Code, Section 1001, for lying to federal government agents. Ms. Stewart now stands convicted of intentionally misleading SEC and FBI officials who questioned her about insider trading. Mr. Al-Marri was one of several hundred immigrants who voluntarily submitted to FBI interviews in the wake of the September 11, 2001 attacks. He was later charged with lying, during his interview, about the timing of a previous trip to the United States. Here are two criminal defendants from widely divergent backgrounds. Yet both were ensnared by Section 1001, a perennial favorite of federal prosecutors.

Did you know that it is a crime to tell a lie to the federal government? Even if your lie is oral and not under oath? Even if you have received no warnings of any kind? Even if you are not trying to cheat the government out of money? Even if the government is not actually misled by your falsehood? Well it is.

Title 18, United States Code, Section 1001 makes it a crime to: 1) knowingly and willfully; 2) make any materially false, fictitious or fraudulent statement or representation; 3) in any matter within the jurisdiction of the executive, legislative or judicial branch of the United States. Your lie does not even have to be made directly to an employee of the national government as long as it is “within the jurisdiction” of the ever expanding federal bureaucracy. Though the falsehood must be “material” this requirement is met if the statement has the “natural tendency to influence or [is] capable of influencing, the decision of the decisionmaking body to which it is addressed.” United States v. Gaudin , 515 U.S. 506, 510 (1995). (In other words, it is not necessary to show that your particular lie ever really influenced anyone.) Although you must know that your statement is false at the time you make it in order to be guilty of this crime, you do not have to know that lying to the government is a crime or even that the matter you are lying about is “within the jurisdiction” of a government agency. United States v. Yermian , 468 U.S. 63, 69 (1984). For example, if you lie to your employer on your time and attendance records and, unbeknownst to you, he submits your records, along with those of other employees, to the federal government pursuant to some regulatory duty, you could be criminally liable.

You forgot the best part: in he course of the investigation the Fed agents can lie to you to elicit information providing it does not shock the conscience of the community or the court or bait you into committing a crime you wouldn’t have committed otherwise. That’s the short version, want to know more Google ‘Frazier v. Cupp’.

Back in the early 70s a cartain attraction in Florida was flooding the market with lion cubs. We had one helluva time with ‘problem lion’ calls, folks just thought of them as huge cuddly kitties. We had calls for everything from juvenile lions that had attacked their owners to (my personal favorite) the unneutered male lion whose urine was dissolving the wallbord on the owner’s walls.
Reminds me of that woman in Florida fighting to keep that 4-foot long alligator she cuddles and kisses like a baby…

I’ll never understand the fascination with owning wild animals.
Back in the 90’s we went to an animal swap, it was usually chickens, ducks, goats, puppies, etc., but these folks had cougar kitties that were on a bottle. Now, they were cute little things, but because I know those cute little things grow up to be huge things with huge claws and teeth I asked them why in the world would someone pay $3000 for something that would grow up and eat them?
They tried to tell me what great pets they are and they love you when you raise them on a bottle, no different than a domestic kitty except for size.
I told them that the worst I’m going to get if a domestic cat is playing rough or is mad is possibly stitches. With those things I’d be lucky if I only lost a limb.

Just got an email from The Daily Wire, shilling for Ted Cruz:

Ted Cruz Personal Email — May Include Privileged Communication

    Dear xxxxx, this is UNREAL.

“Once in a lifetime,” is not a strong enough phrase to describe the importance of this moment and the amount of pressure our campaign is under right now.

AND I don’t have anywhere else to turn — so I’m turning to you.

I need to ask you for a personal favor — even though it may come at great personal expense.

With only hours before tonight’s MIDNIGHT FEC deadline — and just a few days before the Wisconsin primary (perhaps the most important primary before the RNC nominating convention) — I need your help now more than ever.

I’m going to do my part — to take on Donald Trump — and show all of America that I’m the one candidate who will defeat Donald Trump, who will defeat Hillary Clinton in November, and who will reverse the years of destruction from Obama — restoring our country to its founding, conservative principles.

But I really need you to do your part too…

You see: my campaign faces its biggest challenge in only a few hours, and I know we can win if I have the resources.

But as of this morning, I am $189,326 short of what I need for my FEC deadline.

Will you do your part right now — before tonight’s deadline — by making a $35, $50, or $100 special gift?

I hope you know me well enough by now to know that I wouldn’t ask if it weren’t vitally important and that I wouldn’t ask you this favor if I wasn’t willing to make the same deep sacrifices myself.

Please let me briefly explain because I’m running out of time.

Running for President of the United States has come at a steep price with relentless attacks coming from all sides on my family, my marriage, and worst of all, attacks against my young children.

It is only by the grace of God, the prayers of my friends and family — my dad is a prayer warrior — and the continued support of people just like you have I been able to endure such deep personal sacrifices.

xxxxx, this battle I fight daily is a responsibility not to be taken lightly.

But, if I’m being honest, I must share something with you…

Every single time we have a victory for the campaign or that we see a bump in the polls — the negative attacks double and triple against us.

Between Donald Trump, Hillary Clinton, the liberal media, and the Washington Cartel, there is not one moment where they are not savagely attacking me. And xxxxx, by extension of our shared conservative values, they’re attacking YOU too.

Rest assured — no matter how hard they try to drag my name through the mud, I will not give in to them.

But now, I really need you to make your own personal sacrifice for this campaign — click here to make a special sacrificial donation of $35, $50, or even $10 if you can afford it.

You see: the sacrifices I’m making for our campaign are deep and personal. I’m proud and even honored to be making them on your behalf, but today, before the most important deadline that we face at MIDNIGHT, I need to hear back from you personally.

To make it as quick and easy as possible for you to respond, I’ve asked my team to put together the secure links below.

You can use them to make an instant, secure gift to support me when I need it most:

I WILL HELP WITH $3 BEFORE MIDNIGHT >>>

I WILL HELP WITH $35 BEFORE MIDNIGHT >>>

I WILL HELP WITH $100 BEFORE MIDNIGHT >>>

I WILL HELP WITH $250 BEFORE MIDNIGHT >>>

I WILL HELP WITH $1000 BEFORE MIDNIGHT >>>

    Please, time is critical.

I hope to hear back from you before tonight’s deadline passes.

    For liberty,
    Ted Cruz
