      Happy Easter!

It’s been thundering and lightning since I woke up, had some hail earlier but now it’s just rain.
Might be stuck inside most of the morning. I’ll brave rain, hail, sleet, snow, but I’m a pansy when it comes to lightning bolts.

We did manage to run out and feed the pigs during a break in the action, they’re the only ones venturing out except the ducks and a few dumb chickens.
Well, except for the cows, but they have hay and grass to munch on.

Lightning is one of my favorite things to watch.

I’ve, on occasion wished for lightning in the Rose Garden, lately.

        Well-timed lightning.

This morning a guy ragged on Christ to me. Another guy said “I hope that guy dies in a house fire” referring to Trumpster.

And they both like to say Trump is hateful, with absolutely no self-awareness.

I’ve never wished Bamster would die in a house fire.

Then again, our side never killed 120 million people since 1933.

I finally had a look. I think Sundance has to choose what is important to him, clicks or a serious blog. You simply cannot have both and that fault and the power to correct it lies with Sundance.

At the risk of another hand slap I simply find it disingenuous that one can say “I want to stay small and unknown” yet also not be upfront with ones readership about the large revenues that are being driven your may by their inane and perpetual posting. Personally I believe that is the problem. The choice really does lie with Sundance.

The sad part is that eventually and quite possibly not in the very distant future the CTH will be unrecognizable and will implode under the weight of posters who have no understanding of or ideological ties with the founding of CTH. I was not around for the founding but I see the mods and I read the posts from the first day when Stella put a link here on her blog. I actually wept for the good will, noble cause and friendship that was expressed in those early days.

I feel sorry for Sundance, for his mods, for founding members, for new members and for the decent causes that will not be championed because the direction that TCTH is headed in. I fear that Sundance will eventually end up with neither a “small noble website” or a large income producing website.

the ship can be righted but again I believe that is entirely up to Sundance.

As I just said to nyet, comments are not tied to revenue. One view can be tied to many comments, while views far exceed comments by many times.

As a blog becomes successful, it inevitably attracts people who comment. Many of those people make comments that are, at best, of no value. It can’t be avoided, and it has a lot to do with subject matter. Political posts – something that CTH has always done – attract a large number of people.

It is VERY difficult to moderate, when you are logging tens of thousands of visits a day, and thousands of comments. Unless you have been there, it is difficult to describe.

A blog like this, which logs maybe a thousand views a day, and those who comment are mainly people I know, is easy to moderate.

Ad revenue is tied to visits, and views. It has nothing to do with comments. In fact, there are far more visits and views than comments, consistently. The same is true here.

Hi Stella I understand that, but if people were not allowed to post ad nauseam false stories and vile hatred after perpetual warnings then they would stop coming and traffic would die down so comments do generate ad revenue because they keep people visiting.

I remember how quickly posters were banned for spewing racist hatred during the Mike Brown fiasco, People will leave if they are banned, spewers and trolls will go away if their nonsense is deleted, they are not looking to further the truth, they are looking to agitate and promote hate. Something has changed in that so many hateful post are allowed to remain and those hateful posts breed more hateful posts. I know your mod staff has shrunk and I don’t blame the mods for not being able to do a physically impossible task, I just say the solution is simple, but it will mean less clicks for the CTH.

I do not frequent there often, maybe once or twice a day, but here is a comment that is there today

And I’ve seen many like it in spirit if not content. What reasoning is there with this kind of poster? There was a time even in my short time at the tree that there would have been a warning and then this poster would be gone. Because of the current happenings at CTH and the skeleton staff it its an impossible task to clamp down on the posts in this vein, and the longer they sit the more they encourage more of the same.

Posters confuse 1 st Amendment rights with limited rights and belittle and mock you guys. This is contrary to everything that I believe is the goal of the CTH. I feel like you and the other mods have an impossible task and that you are losing the soul of the CTH.

Sundance is obviously overwhelmed, as are you mods, there are solutions, but again that is Sundance’s call, I’m sure it is not an easy call, and I’m sure that there are uncomfortable truths to be wrestled with, but in my opinion Sundance owes it to you good people who worked your asses off, gave your money and are as big of a part of CTH success as is Sundance to either pull out both barrels and right the ship or say nah, the revenue is more important to me so I will allow the perpetual nonsense that is harming the integrity of the CTH and the ability of the CTH to continue its good worth as I think the revenue brought about by allowing all kinds of nonsense is worth the trade -off.

Early yesterday, commenting was cut off completely on the Cruz thread, and ALL comments were trashed. Hours later, commenting was restored. There is no reason why you would know that, or that conversation occurred among the group of us. It is clear to us that steps must be taken, and that will probably occur if the current situation continues. Banning continues as it always has. No cop catches every speeder, and no fisherman catches every fish.

I know. I was just saying I keep forgetting about the revenue aspect since I don’t rely on that business model.
Even the BBS subscription content model was different than the current advertisement model. As an aside, I’m still surprised this is the one that became the standard. We wrote about it before. The only people that really make money, are the ones that provide the ads for everyone to use on their websites. SD and everyone get coins compared to the money paid by the product advertisers themselves.

You must have significant traffic in order to make an income, for sure. What you say is true.

What I can’t seem to get across is that traffic does not at all correlate to comments. For example, the other day CTH had 960,000 views (with a low view/visitor ratio), but about 5-6,000 comments.

ADD: That’s about twice the average in both visits and comments.

As long as we’re discussing the Religion of Peace, a branch of the Taliban murder bomber detonated a bomb in Lahore, killing 69 and injuring hundreds – so far. The park was packed with Christian families celebrating Easter and the Taliban claims to specifically have targeted it due to the attendees being Christian.
The POtuS released a brief canned statement, his usual Shiite, wherein he refused once again to usevthe term ‘Islamic terrorism’ even though a group claiming to be Islamic murdered Christians on Easter. No statements yet ftom NoI or CAIR.
Y’all Christians better prove your Christianity by giving up those guns and Bibles, accepting casualties in the name of inclusiveness until we can work out these little cultural bumps in the road.

The cutest time was when he went to a fancy restaurant with us on our anniversary and wore his suit and tie. Before the meal was over, his shirttail was hanging out (very normal), and he had food dribbled down the front of his shirt. He was acting so grown up and he tried so hard to be careful, but just couldn’t help it. I didn’t comment on his messy looks. 🙂
