March 15, 2016 Primaries – Discussion

VoteToday we have primaries in five states:

Florida, 99 delegates, closed primary, winner takes all.

Illinois, 69 delegates, closed primary, at-large delegates are WTA by statewide vote, but congressional district delegates are elected directly.

Missouri, 52 delegates, open primary. Nine at-large delegates are allocated to the statewide winner, and five delegates are allocated to the winner of each congressional district. If a candidate gets over 50 percent he or she gets all the delegates.

North Carolina, 72 delegates, open primary (Republicans and Independents can vote in the primary, but Democrats can’t.), delegates proportionally allocated to the candidates.

Ohio, 66 delegates, open primary (Republicans and Independents can vote in the primary, but Democrats can’t.), winner takes all.

Real Clear Politics has a good summary of the Republican Party primaries/caucuses: RCP Republican Primaries.

Here are the latest Real Clear Politics polls for the five states. Trump is ahead in all but Ohio, but note that the Kasich advantage is within the margin of error. Missouri’s poll isn’t as recent as the others, the margin of error is large, and there is only the one poll:

I’ve been reading that Rubio and Cruz campaigns’ have been telling their supporters to vote for Kasich in Ohio.
This is going to be rude for me to say, but Ohioans who vote for a man that says he will legalize illegals within his first 100 days are stupid, not to mention the small little fact that he’s not on all state ballots.

The idea is to try to stop Trump, not to elect Kasich. They want a brokered convention.

I can’t believe voters are that stupid, I know many are, but I’m keeping my fingers crossed that enough aren’t stupid.

A caller on the Limbaugh show last week said she was thinking about voting for Rubio in an attempt to deny Trump the state of Florida delegates. She didn’t support Rubio – at all – but thought he had a better chance of beating Trump than Cruz or Kasich.

I know some of these “party before country” folks and they infuriate me.
That’s what it is too, they are following orders, with the exception of those who want amnesty because they benefit from it.

    Good News:

Trump breaks 50% in national support for the first time

Showing little sign of a “ceiling”, Donald Trump has only grown in support with the exit of Ben Carson and Marco Rubio’s collapse.

In the last two weeks, Republican frontrunner Donald Trump has won more delegates in primaries and caucuses, even while his opponents have launched new attacks and questions have been raised about his supporters. The week’s Economist/YouGov Poll finds Trump still at the top of GOP voters’ preference with a wider lead, while Florida Senator Marco Rubio seems most damaged by the two weeks of attacks and counter-attacks.

This is the first time Trump has garnered the support of a majority of Republican primary voters nationwide. YouGov’s February 24-27 survey marked his previous high, at 44% support.

Soros, Alarmed by Trump, Pours Money into 2016 Race
The billionaire has already spent or pledged $13 million to help Hillary Clinton and other Democrats this year.

Soros has expressed alarm over the past few months at the candidacies of Republicans Donald Trump and Ted Cruz. In a statement last week about a new group he’s funding to increase voting by Latinos and immigrants in the election, he again mentioned the two candidates by name.

“The intense anti-immigrant and anti-Muslim rhetoric that has been fueled by the Republican primary is deeply offensive,” Soros said in the statement. “There should be consequences for the outrageous statements and proposals that we’ve regularly heard from candidates Trump and Cruz.”

Trump is now Rule 40 convention compliant. He is the only candidate who is and no other candidate will be. Unless they change it at the last minute Trump is already the nominee. They have been hoisted by their own pitard. Neither Rubio, Crus or Kasich can reach this bar now.

Unfortunately, they could change the rule at the last minute, before the convention. Anyway, once the first vote is taken at the convention, and nobody takes the nomination, all bets are off.

Seriously, no matter what their shenanigans at the convention, even if they steal the nomination, do you see the people giving in? I don’t. Which proves they would absolutely rather have the Beast than Trump, because that is the only alternative for them. The GOPe has lost already.

The meeting is scheduled for two days after tonight’s primaries in what many Republican operatives believe will determine whether Trump is on an unstoppable march to the nomination.

Three influential leaders in the conservative movement have summoned other top conservatives for a closed-door meeting this Thursday in Washington D.C. to talk about how to stop Donald Trump and, should he become the Republican nominee, how to run a third-party “true conservative” challenger in the fall.

The organizers of the meeting include Bill Wichterman, who was President George W. Bush’s liaison to the conservative movement, Bob Fischer, a South Dakota businessman and longtime conservative convener, and Erick Erickson, the outspoken Trump opponent and conservative activist who founded RedState.com.

I don’t believe a third party will ever win. So, they can plot whatever they want. Let Americans vote in the primaries and go from there.

Watch Cuyahoga County in Ohio. There you will see the working of the American Uniparty in all it’s glory, the perfect combination of a one party government, the CoC, and the labor unions, all in perfect coordination. Yes, perhaps I am just a teensy bit cynical. But, at least on my small piece of the North Coast, it is what it is.

I listened while a mother cried this morning. Her son is still in the VA hospital in D.C., another horrific story. This afternoon I talked down a brother Marine, a Baghdad survivor, while his wife waited in the truck and would not come in. Then I see what is happening in Cuyahoga County tonight, and hear how nutso the Trump supporters are. And they wonder why we work so hard for Mr. Trump. I am no longer a drinker, but perhaps tonight I might sit quietly at the bar.

I know you must be very downcast, and I’m sorry that Trump lost your state after you worked so hard.

One thing. Even though Kasich has 66 more delegates, he still has fewer delegates than Marco Rubio. I wouldn’t exactly call this a huge step ahead for him, and Ohio is the only state he has won.
