More about private colleges associated with Romney and Rubio:
http://www.alternet.org/election-2016/romney-and-rubio-attack-trump-university-both-are-tied-predatory-colleges
But both Romney and Rubio are tied to for-profit colleges that fleeced not just many U.S. students, leaving them with substandard educations and overwhelming debt, but also ripped off U.S. taxpayers, who foot the bill for student Pell grants and defaulted student loans.
For-profit colleges are desperate to keep up friendships with Washington politicians, because they have been getting as much as 90 percent of their revenue, and as much as $32 billion a year, from federal student aid.
….
Marco Rubio has been eager to respond. In summer 2014, Rubio wrote to the Department of Education on behalf of one of the worst for-profit colleges, Corinthian. In a letter to the Department’s Deputy Secretary and Under Secretary, Rubio stated that the Department had “recently placed extreme financial constraints on Corinthian Colleges, Inc. by restricting the company’s timely access to federal financial aid.” He called on the Department to “demonstrate leniency” to Corinthian. Corinthian has since shut down, as its extensive frauds and abuseshave been exposed, and many Corinthian students are demanding that their loans be cancelled. Potentially as many as 350,000 students could be considered victims of the Corinthian fraud, with claims rising into the billions.
But in going to bat for Corinthian, Rubio appeared to see not a greedy company but a generous one. Between 2010 and 2015, Rubio’s political operationsreceived $27,600 in contributions from Corinthian.
….
As the 2012 GOP nomination contest neared the critical Iowa caucuses, Romney was asked by the Ames Tribune’s editorial board what he planned to do about higher education. Romney’s response was crystal-clear: He liked for-profit colleges, including the University of Phoenix, and especially a Florida school called Full Sail University, which, he said, knew how to “hold down the cost of their education.”
In fact, Full Sail only knew how to hold down the cost of education for its owners; for students, it was the third most expensive college in America.
It also turned out that Full Sail’s owners, the principals of a private equity firm called TA Associates, were among Romney’s top donors. The Romney Super PAC Restore Our Future received $329,900 from TA executives Kevin Landry and P. Andrews McLane, and another $135,000 from Bill Heavener, the CEO of Full Sail University. Landry also donated $89,900 to American Crossroads, the pro-Romney Super PAC founded by Karl Rove.
In praising Full Sail, Romney never mentioned that TA executives had contributed heavily to his campaign effort. Nor did he disclose that he was actually in business with them.
And lots more. I’m still digging.
P.S.: Alternet also has bad things to say about Trump U.

Jenzabar and For-Profits
That could be good news for one of the top donors to a political action committee supporting Romney: Jenzabar, Inc., a company based in Boston that sells administrative software to colleges and universities.
So far, Jenzabar has donated $250,000 to Restore Our Future, a “super PAC” that under new campaign finance laws can raise unlimited donations from corporations, unions and individuals. Like many top Romney donors, the company has links to Bain Capital, the private equity firm Romney helped found. Robert Maginn, Jenzabar’s chief executive officer, worked at Bain with Romney in the 1990s. In 2008, he was a finance co-chairman of Romney’s bid for the Republican nomination.
All but two of Jenzabar’s eight top executives have donated the maximum $2,500 personal contribution to Romney. They did the same in 2008, when Maginn served as Romney’s finance co-chairman. (Among those who have not donated is Maginn’s wife and Jenzabar’s chief operating officer, Chai Ling.) For most, the two Romney donations are the sole political contributions they have made since 1990, although one executive donated $250 to Obama in 2008.

From 2012, NYT:
At a town-hall-style meeting in New Hampshire last month, listeners pressed Mitt Romney on the soaring cost of higher education. His solution: students should consider for-profit colleges like the little-known Full Sail University in Florida.
A week later in Iowa, Mr. Romney offered another unsolicited endorsement for “a place in Florida called Full Sail University.” By increasing competition, for-profit institutions like Full Sail, which focuses on the entertainment field, “hold down the cost of education” and help students get jobs without saddling them with excessive debt, he said.
Mr. Romney did not mention the cost of tuition at Full Sail, which runs more than $80,000, for example, for a 21-month program in “video game art.”
Nor did he mention its spotty graduation rate. Or, for that matter, that its chief executive, Bill Heavener, is a major campaign donor and a co-chairman of his state fund-raising team in Florida.
That team, Mr. Romney said last fall when he appointed Mr. Heavener, “will be crucial to my efforts in Florida and across the country.”
Beyond his fund-raising role, Mr. Heavener has committed his own resources to the cause. He and his wife have each given the maximum $2,500 to the campaign, and he gave $45,000 to Restore Our Future, a “super PAC” run by former Romney aides to bolster his campaign. The chairman of the private equity fund that owns Full Sail University — C. Kevin Landry of TA Associates — gave $40,000 to Restore Our Future, records show.
Mr. Romney has received financial support from other segments of the for-profit college industry as well, and he was quick to praise the industry as an affordable alternative to traditional colleges.

This is amazing. This column was written by Ben Shapiro five years ago, about Donald Trump. I wonder what made him change his mind?
The Magic of Donald Trump
http://townhall.com/columnists/benshapiro/2011/04/13/the_magic_of_donald_trump
In the last several weeks, that ideal Republican candidate has materialized.
His name is Donald Trump. His slogan is ready-made: “You’re Fired.” He does not give a damn what the media thinks of him — he steamrolled Meredith Vieira during his NBC interview with her last week. He can self-fund to the tune of $1 billion.
And what’s more, he can win.
Pay no attention to the recent polls showing Obama crushing Trump by 20 points in a head-to-head matchup. That disparity is attributable to the public perception that Trump is a loudmouth with no true interest in running. The moment he declares in earnest and gets on the campaign stump, his numbers will rise dramatically.

Our friend, Clarice (usual Sunday morning commentary):
Dynasty 2016 Episode 2: Romney v. Trump
Once again my online friend “Ignatz Ratzkywatzky” more accurately and succinctly explained why this was so that has anyone else:
Let’s see; Trump is surging among those who detest insiders and the elites. How do we end this surge?
I know, I know! Let’s have the buttoned down, slicked back scion of a politically connected family who made hundreds of millions on Wall Street denounce him.
It’s GOTTA work!

She also quotes Peggy Noonan:
Party leaders and thinkers should take note: It’s easier for a base to hire or develop a flashy new establishment than it is for an establishment to find itself a new base.
[snip]
The GOP elite is about to spend a lot of money and hire a lot of talent, quickly, to try to kill Trump off the next two weeks. There will be speeches, ads — an onslaught. It will no doubt do Mr. Trump some damage, but not much.
It will prove to Trump supporters that what they think is true — their guy is the only one who will stand up to the establishment, so naturally the establishment is trying to kill him. And Trump supporters don’t seem to have that many illusions about various aspects of his essential character. One of them told me he’s “a junkyard dog.”

And this very interesting tidbit:
In a little-noticed story “Guccifer”, the Romanian who hacked Sidney Blumenthal’s email account and first informed us of Hillary’s private email accounts is on his way here, undoubtedly to face FBI questioning about the unsecured nature of her emails.
Romania’s top court has approved a request by U.S. authorities to extradite a convicted hacker known as Guccifer, a source within Romania’s DIICOT anti-organized crime and terrorism unit told Reuters on Friday.
“The court approved an 18-month temporary extradition to America for the hacker. This follows a request made by U.S. authorities,” the source said.
A Romanian justice ministry spokeswoman said details of the extradition request had not yet been made public.
The short term of the “temporary extradition” would suggest that he’s here to testify, not to be prosecuted, although he was indicted in 2014 on charges of wire fraud, unauthorized access to a protected computer, aggravated identity theft, cyberstalking and obstruction of justice.

Taqi posted a link to some comments about this yesterday and someone else in the comments over in a CTH thread posted the audio. Beck was being over the top sarcastic (again). It was a joke. Not one I liked, but a joke nevertheless. Beck did not honestly state he would, or call for the attempted assassination of Trump. His demonizing of Trump is exactly why I don’t listen to his show any more.

The Secret Service has questioned people for less. Being a public figure, it’s just the sort of thing that would inspire some nut case. I don’t think it’s very funny.
LikeLiked by 5 people
I don’t think it is funny either. As far as someone misinterpreting his comment as a directive, there is only personal responsibility. Beck the entertainer, is not responsible for what his fans do under the premise that he hosts an opinion show.
I would be interested to hear a comparative of law from the first 20 years of our country to the last 20 on this subject. People could say whatever extreme thing they wanted if they were US citizens, but non citizens were deported for speech.
LikeLiked by 2 people
I listened to it too, nyet. When I said I didn’t think it was funny, I meant that literally. I don’t think it was a joke.
LikeLiked by 3 people
Really? Perhaps it’s because I listened to it every day for a number of years. He goes into commercial break like that saying some non-realistic extreme shocking statement. It’s a habit or style.
Maybe I’m wrong. I do tend to think people in general are not evil right off the bat.
I know he doesn’t like Trump, but I’ve been extremely confused as to the level of demonization from the beginning.

It’s easy for someone like Beck to plant an idea. Nothing he says is unintended, whether it’s played for comedy, or not. That’s true about any talk jock, btw, not just Beck.

Yeah, that is a good point. Just because I don’t think before speaking/writing doesn’t mean everyone is like that. The more I think about it, the more I can picture that as a rehearsed line.

I don’t agree with their view that it is protesting. I understand the courts have made rulings, but I disagree with the decisions. It’s malicious intent. What if this was done at a Beyonce, Jay-Z concert? If I bought all the tickets so fans couldn’t enjoy their “music”.
The artist still got paid, what law was broken? If they refuse to sell to me again, I’ll say I was self identifying as a woman that day and it’s discrimination. I’ll use the courts to get my money back and put them out of business too.

I think is is why Trump always over books. (By the way when you register they ask for a valid email, phone# and name) all that can be faked but it is still a minor obstacle because at the very least the SS can get the point of origination of any requests for tickets.
I have a very bad feeling about the UIC rally. It is too big of a temptation for the GOP to just let if go unmolested. They have too many willing minions on the front line, I don’t even know how the Secret Service is going to sweep the pavilion at UIC before the Trump rally takes place.
Trump is going to be the nominee. Trump is going to receive majority control of the delegates from the required number of states. Trump is going to receive 50% plus 1, nothing but an outright high noon robbery can wrest the nomination away from Trump.
This cold fact is the sword of Damocles hanging over the head of every GOP elite and Trump is holding very sharp, very shiny scissors.
I do believe that there are events that can change this trajectory. One is an event dubbed a race riot that is blamed on Trump and this is exactly what the MSM and RNC are pushing for in my opinion. 1) We have the nonsense that just keeps getting put out as truth that Trump refuses to disavow Duke and the KKK 2) We recently had a small group of BLM protesters escorted out of a Trump rally and that was/is being portrayed as evidence of the violence and racism being promoted at Trump rallies 3) the incident of an SS agent stopping an aggressive foul mouthed reporter (Chris Morris ) from going outside the press box is being portrayed as an act of violence prevalent at Trump rallies 4) December 11th is just days before a huge vote on the 15th.
Trump for some reason is holding a rally in the heart of the BLM beast. I’ll trust he knows what he is doing.
Those folks who are getting tickets are going to show up, it may still be evolving but I predict UIC is chaos.

Thanks stella as well as others, this saddens me. I always liked Nancy as she was such a lady, petite in stature, & I adored her husband as well.
This news saddened me today, I guess my mind was drifting off & thinking about losing both my parents/only sibling. Then I snapped out of it to think about one day we will all be reunited with family and our Lord in heaven. I too said a prayer for the Reagan family, and thanked God for my adult children.
God is good, God has a plan for all of us, I remind myself of this often when a birthday/Xmas rolls around for those I’ve lost, I thank God for the years I had them.

2012 # voters = 30,000.
2016 # voters = 72,253 (Cruz, Trump, Rubio, Kasich).

I saw that earlier – it’s from last April, regarding an actual election. I wonder if they will/can sue for a caucus. After all, it’s run by the state party organization; they make the rules, and I wonder how the procedure works. Is it a paper ballot of some kind, that is tabulated by party officials? Do they require I.D.?

It looks like you do need an ID but who knows, this is the latest information I can find;
Starting January 1, 2012:
Kansas voters must show photographic identification when casting a vote in person; and
Kansas voters must have their signature verified and include a copy of an acceptable form of photographic identification or provide a full Kansas driver’s license or nondriver ID number when voting by mail.

Baby Boy, almost nine pounds, lost of hair which is cool as bald babies are the norm with our dna. Born blue. Oxygen administered. All pink and just fine day later. Have not got to see or hold. So much flu and sickness in family that we decided to not risk getting new parents and baby sick. Some hospital around here have even banned visiting hours and visitors must have proof of flu shot, also nobody under twelve in. So, even though they are not at that hospital, too many of us in different stages of flues and stuff that we are holding back. Yes, it is practically killing me. First baby for this son and wife. Wish could show pic but no go permission from parents to do so (guess they actually do as I say and not as I do about internet safety)

Always look for the file extension (in this case, mp4), and then truncate everything after it.
Sometimes it’s “jpg”, sometimes it’s “gif”, sometimes “mp4”. With Vine videos it’s mp4. So delete everything from the question mark on.

Cruz Knew Justice Roberts Was No Conservative When He Supported Him In 2005
In 1999 Ted Cruz went to work for George W. Bush as a domestic policy advisor on his 2000 campaign. He had responsibility for anything that was related to the law. When the Florida recount debacle came about, it was his job to assemble a legal team. The second call he made and the second person he recruited was the future Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts. The same Roberts who Cruz has dismissed his support of in presidential debates, the guy who many American conservatives feel completely betrayed them. Cruz said, “John had been a friend and a Rehnquist clerk—I’ve known John a long time.”
He applied that longtime knowledge to an endorsement made in the National Review in an article promoting Roberts titled The Right Stuff on July 20 of 2005.
Cruz said of Roberts, “There are some who have raised complaints that his two years on the bench provide insufficient record for them to assess (and attack) his jurisprudence. That complaint misses the mark for three reasons. First, his judicial record would have stretched 14 years, had Senate Democrats not delayed its consideration twice, in 1991 and again in 2001. When his nomination did finally make it to the Senate floor, in 2003, he was confirmed by unanimous consent. Second, many distinguished jurists, such as Chief Justices William Rehnquist and Earl Warren and Justices O’Connor, Souter, and Thomas, similarly had very limited experience on the federal bench prior to ascending to the Court. And third, although two years on the bench provides a limited number of opinions, he has a far longer record that is relevant: his professional career as a Supreme Court litigator.

Cruz is hysterical, if all the stations are showing all of Trump’s speeches why do we all have to watch on the internet?

Rightly so, most conservatives were angry and disgusted and said what a POS Harry Reid was when he did the, “there might be something in his taxes, like he hasn’t paid his taxes, blah, blah.”
Yet, I know for a fact that some of those same conservatives have no issues with Cruz acting like Reid and now Romney.
I have never went from liking someone as much as I once liked Cruz to disliking them as much as I now dislike Cruz.

We are, I said before, in a music renaissance right now. I could list fifty, a hundred, (and more!) artists that are currently making incredible music. Gotye. Imagine Dragons. Of Monsters and Men. Bjork. Highasakite. Twenty One Pilots. Mumford and Sons. And not idiotic, corporate nonsense like was produced from 1970 to 2005. Actual, really good music, in every sense of the word “good”. Meaningful. Not the intentional nonsense of Stairway to Heaven and Hotel freakin’ California. Not the angry, ugly music that Seattle and MTV forced on us in the 90s.
No, the pendulum, thank GOD, has swung back to Beauty and Love and Goodness and Skill, from the extreme end it got to in the interim.
You won’t hear these artists on radio. Radio’s just not into good music. They never have been. Radio, like all mass (airwave) media, is into telling you what to like, and exposing you to what they want you exposed to, only.
But music is flourishing right now, like perhaps not since the Enlightenment.
Two words: Alt Rock.
That’s where the best music in the world is being made right now. Strong points in this genre include the promotion of beauty and love and goodness, and with skill.
On the blues side? Joe Bonamassa. Makes Hendrix look like a piker.

And don’t get me wrong: I dig a whole lot of music from those decades I derided.
There’s a current artist, you would call it “pop” for style now, not because the gatekeepers have allowed it to be Popular, but because it sounds poppish…
“The 1975”.
That’s the name of the band. Unbelievable skill at making music. Lots of Peter Gabriel influence. So good it should be famous. Like Highasakite.

It’s not that I don’t like the Eagles and Led Zeppelin.
I do appreciate their genius. Same with The Who. And The Doors.
I’m just tired of hearing their same songs, for my whole life. On repeat.
There’s so much else available. And most of that stuff was hedonistic and nihilistic anyway, and not pushing a good philosophy at all.
And everything pushes a philosophy.
But why do I need to hear Riders on the Storm every day on every single classic rock brand™ station in America at least twice a day?
Tens of millions of recordings, and that has to be played each day? And Hotel California? Really? We need to hear that five times a day on a construction site? Just because advertisers think people feel comfortable only hearing what they are familiar with? GAH!
Throw me some stuff I haven’t heard! I’m actually more uncomfortable around all the crapola I’ve been soaked in for the last three decades. Why do I need to hear anything by Pink Floyd again? It’s all been engraved on my brain by MSM radio! Give me new music.
I bet new sales in FM radio antennae aren’t peaking right now.
Because nobody wants to spend good money to hear Tears For Fears sing “Shout”, yet again. And again tomorrow.

Q: Why can’t radio stations play this, instead of the 9 billionth play of “Piano Man”?
A: “Because $crew you people. You listen to what we want you to listen to.” — Ageing, Decrepit, Fully Irrelevant Radio Industry.
Tens of millions of recordings exist. Tune into a radio station, you get five hundred songs, all year, with a dice roll as to when they’re played.
If even that large number.
I once heard an FM station in Vermont that would play anything. It was my dream station. They would play Billie, they would play Hank Jr., they would play Sergei Rachmaninoff followed by Michael Jackson’s Billie Jean, and then some Louis Armstrong for good measure, followed by a spot of Megadeth.

BTW I don’t know if anyone is talking about this or not but once again Trump is 5 laps ahead of the pack. It is good for Trump if Rubio stays in until the 15th, it is good optics for Trump to win Florida from Rubio and it is bad for the GOP if Rubio stays in the race.
The unemployed Rubio has to know he is over and done with.
There was talk of a unity ticket between Rubio and Cruz. But what does Trump do? He pressures Rubio, who despises Trump to drop out of the race, effectively putting the egotistical Rubio between a rock and a hard place. If Rubio drops out, Trump says. “I’m glad Little Marco took my advice.” 😀 If Rubio stays in he risks becoming even more irrelevant and any sliver of goodwill that might remain between Team Rubio and Team Cruz.
Well done Mr. Trump.
