    Romney about Trump…

    His proposed 35 percent tariff-like penalties would instigate a trade war and that would raise prices for consumers, kill our export jobs and lead entrepreneurs and businesses of all stripes to flee America.

    Pre Trump hating Romney about tariffs;

      The point – which Rubio and everyone else on that stage doesn’t understand – is that there aren’t very many companies in the United States who manufacture clothing. Have you ever tried to buy shoes that are manufactured in the USA?

        It’s not just shoes or clothes. I didn’t realize until I had a grandbaby how much stuff, not just clothes that are made in other countries. We try our best to make sure everything we buy from highchairs, beds, playpens, toys, car seats are made in America and it’s almost impossible. I was shocked how much stuff for babies is made in China.

        We used to manufacture most of the clothing here, sadly now gone. I think the textile workers were one of the first targets in the march to de-industrialize our country. NAFTA was the final nail in the coffin for the textile workers, imo. Stockman killed off one of the last of our domestic textile suppliers in Albemarle when he closed Collins & Aikman in 2005. Little Marco and Cruz were not yet out of nappies, how would they even know? Let alone care. They make my headache worse.

          My husband was talking to a HVAC contractor the other day and they were discussing Carrier moving to Mexico. He was telling him how most of the parts that go into an A/C are already made all over the world, very few are made in this country. More and more companies are moving out of the country, so that makes it harder for the companies who stay here to be competitive, when mainly all they are doing are putting it together.
          He was talking about lesser known brands that are made here, but they cost more than some of the more well known brands so they are a hard sale for contractors to make to consumers.
          That’s how it works, you force companies to have no choice if they want to stay in business to move out of the country, so until you fix it where it costs them more to import then it’s not going to stop.

              People say they want American made but when it comes to paying for American made when American made might be the difference between hundreds or thousands of dollars then sometimes their budget just might not allow them to buy American made.

              I do believe him to about the parts because a few years ago some kind of part to do with defrost on our whirlpool refrigerator needed replaced. My husband fixes most everything around the house that he can so he ordered this part and guess what, only 2 companies manufactured it and both companies were located in China.

            And, Mr. Romney (and I used the term “Mr.” sarcastically) said that Trump’s plans for tariffs were dangerous because businesses would start leaving the country. We are almost to the point where there isn’t any business to leave.
