I think the establishment GOP will regret sponsoring Mitt Romney’s speech today. Just some examples:
And this:
LINDSEY GRAHAM: BROKERED CONVENTION NOT ‘FAIR’ TO DONALD TRUMP
Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) says the Republican Party would do more damage to itself with a brokered convention denying Donald Trump the presidential nomination than by simply losing the general election.
From CNN:Despite Sen. Lindsey Graham’s outspoken disapproval of Trump, the South Carolina Republican — who ended his own bid for president in December — warned that a brokered convention would not be “fair” to the real estate mogul.
“He would leave — and he’d have a right to leave,” cautioned Graham.
“If he got two thirds of what he needs, which I think he’s well on his way to doing, for us to steal from him is not going to help the party,” he added. “You can lose an election. We’ve lost an election before. But what I’m trying to do is focus on the day after we lose. Can we rebuild this party? Can we create a form of conservatism that’s enticing to young people and people of color? I think we can. And I think that’s the only hope for the Republican Party and, quite frankly, one of the big hopes of this country.”
And this:
MITTCARTHYISM: ROMNEY DISGRACES HIMSELF WITH DISHONEST ATTACK ON TRUMP
On behalf of the Republican Establishment that has lost the popular vote in 5 of the last 6 presidential elections, the man who Candy Crowley turned into a quivering puddle of loser, stood before the cameras late-Thursday morning to hurl naked McCarthyism at Republican frontrunner Donald Trump. It’s fine to attack Trump, or anyone, on substance and legitimate differences of opinion and style, but this was pure MittCarthyism:
“I predict that there are more bombshells in his tax returns. I predict that he doesn’t give much if anything to the disabled and to our veterans. I predict that he told the New York Times that his immigration talk is just that: talk.”
Forget the fact that Mitt Romney is showing more fight and spirit and willingness to go scorched earth against Trump than he ever did when America most needed him, in 2012.Forget the fact that this last minute push to defeat Trump, that most analysts admit is impossible, is almost certainly just another Republican Establishment grift; another phony GOP fundraising scam that is going to fail, just like all the other phony GOP fundraising scams. (Hey Sucker: Help Us Stop ObamaCare! Again!)
What is beyond disgraceful, though, is Mitt Romney, a man who himself was a victim of these McCarthy-ite tactics, gleefully practicing the same against Trump. With no evidence, nothing to back up his accusations, the same Mitt Romney who lacked the nerve to prosecute Obama over Benghazi, demanded a fellow Republican prove he’s not a communist liar, thief, or felon.
AND, here is Mitt, in his own words, praising Donald Trump just four years ago:
Donald Trump has shown an extraordinary ability to understand how our economy works. To create jobs for the American people. He´s done it here in Nevada. He´s done it across the country. He understands that our economy is facing threats from abroad. He´s one of the few people who stood up and said China has been cheating. They´ve taken jobs from Americans. They haven´t played fair. We have to have a President who will stand up to cheaters.

Mitt Romney’s slam on Donald Trump gets mixed reaction at CPAC
“If Mitt Romney had half as much passion in 2012, when he was taking on the policies of Barack Obama I think he might have become the president,” said Matt Schlapp, the president of the American Conservative Union, who puts on CPAC. “It’s strange to see people all of a sudden become animated when they are against somebody that 40 percent of the voters, at least in the Republican primaries, seem to be standing for.”
Mr. Schlapp said Republicans should be trying to woo Mr. Trump’s base and get them active in the conservative movement rather than shun them away.
“Let’s go grab these new Republicans and these new voters, let’s bring them in as part of our movement,” he said. “Let’s make sure we all come together in November.”

I’ve been reading comments on different sites and FB and this seems to have done the opposite of what they hoped. I’m seeing a lot of comments saying they were a Cruz guy but after listening to Romney and seeing just how scared the establishment is of Trump they’re jumping on the Trump wagon. If they hate him this much then he has to be the man for the job.

Even those who, while still supporting Cruz, think this is wrong. At the very least, it is gaining Trump sympathy, and people are hating the establishment more than ever.

I get what they want, I’ve understood that for a long time, but what I don’t get is how they think this is going to work?
I understand there are people who will swallow this, like the man I heard today for one example, but those are not Trump voters and many or most are not Cruz voters.

How are Romney’s words going over with the average Joe Republican?

Corker is a slimy, conniving, ambitious politician. He cannot be trusted at all. However, he is pretty savvy, and I take this as a writing on the wall moment for him. In other words, let the sucking up begin.

I want some intrepid cub reporter to axe Mittens how much money he has raised by selling his mailing list to every jakeleg who’s been runnin’ for this POTUS gig, except for Trump and Cruz. I know a lot of you have soured on Levin for now, but he made the comment tonight that this “speech” by Romney was more a campaign kickoff speech than a broadside at Trump. If anyone listened, I don’t think Romney endorsed either of the other two candidates. I’m not countin’ that son-of-a-mailman from OH. 🙄
