    What American doesn’t love Winston Churchill, the first person ever to be made an honorary US citizen. Even though their pedigrees are identical (US citizen mother, foreign father, born outside the US), we’ve yet to convey the same honor to Ted Cruz. Even if we did, he’d still wouldn’t be a Natural Born citizen. Oh yes, we’re just getting started!

      I think the biggest difference is that Winston Churchill never lived in the United States, and his mother didn’t either after she was married.

      Forgot to mention – at the time Winston Churchill was born, women had no rights at all in either the United States or England, including the vote. What I mean by that is the father was the parent who conveyed all rights to the child.

        I understand. I know that Cruz is a US citizen, and was being a little sarcastic about it in my post. The natural born part is a little less clear, for both Cruz and Rubio. I wish clear guidelines were agreed on. It does bother me beyond just this election in regards to foreign influence and the framers’ intent. It also worries me that so many people don’t seem to think it matters. “Either we have a country or we don’t!”.

          I agree with everything you say. I think this needs to be clarified. My point is that each case is different, even Cruz and Rubio. Cruz was born in Canada, while Rubio was born in the U.S., but neither of his parents were citizens at the time. Donald Trump was born in the U.S., but his mother was born in Scotland, although I believe she was a citizen when he was born. Frankly, I think that the claim that the parents must be natural born citizens isn’t borne out anywhere in either the Constitution or in U.S. law. I don’t like to discuss it here, normally, because everyone has an opinion, but there is no legal determination.

          I think the intent of the President being a “natural born citizen” is to ensure that he’s really “one of us”.

          I’m not convinced that logic holds true anymore. One piece of evidence being an image I received on Facebook last night put out by occupyDemocrats. The top half is Ted Cruz saying in his acceptance speech that our Rights come from God; the bottom half is a picture of our Founders captioned, “They must be rolling in their graves.” Reading the comments, only a small fraction were on board with the idea that our Rights come from our Creator, and were not granted by the Constitution. I commented, quoting the Declaration of Independence, and so far I’ve only gotten one “like”.

      Sadly, today there are probably many younger Americans who can’t even tell you who Winston Churchill is.

      I do also believe something needs to be done about defining Natural Born.

    A few hours earlier what was most likely an intentionally leaked story made its way to D.C. Whispers regarding an alleged early-morning response by an already impeccably dressed and coiffed Donald Trump to one of his most trusted advisers who upon seeing his boss seated in a chair asked him, “What now?”

    Trump’s eyes flared as he looked up with a jaw tightly clenched. His mouth turned into an almost-snarl that was as much an affirmation of his refocused confidence as it was a declaration of intent.

    “George…WE WIN.”

      I thought that Trump knew (or suspected) that he might place second in Iowa, and I got that impression from his last few speeches. Iowa IS usually an outlier, and the New Hampshire and South Carolina races are far more important.
