So hard to believe it has been that long. I can’t remember now exactly how or when I found the Treehouse, but think it was a few months after the start-up. I loved reading Sundance Cracker’s comments on Hillbuzz, missed the blowup, never knew about Honey Trail, and was so glad to find the Treehouse. And have been there every day since. Used to read every post and every comment, but that is no longer possible. CTH has exploded in the past 6 months especially with the whole Trump phenomenon, but really since the Travon Martin/George Zimmerman debacle. Hundreds of comments on the daily threads every day, and so many newbies I’ve given up trying to welcome them all. And truthfully, I was missing the old days when size was more manageable and tone among the commenters was more congenial (even now it is so much better than most other sites, thanks to the diligent work of tireless admins). So I was extremely happy to find the best Treepers hanging out here at Stella’s Place.

Stella, Menagerie, Wee Weed, as CTH admins, can you share any behind the scenes info with us? How big is the Treehouse readership now? Sundance did a post when it passed 1 million comments and now it is past 2 million. Is CTH sufficiently monetized to support adequate bandwidth for the size (seems very slow to load at every page change for me). I’m tossing in $50/mo and periodically encouraging others to do the same; should I continue that, or is it all good? Is Sundance reading here?

And is there a reason the headline banner for CTH does not say The Conservative Treehouse anywhere? Since that is how it is commonly referred to, it seems odd to me not to have the name on the banner.

Thanks for linking those early posts, Stella. So nice to see some of the old names that haven’t been around for a while. I thank the Lord daily for CTH and SP friends that help me stay sane in these crazy times.

Last month, CTH had 7.5 million views (2.8 million visits). Lifetime, there are 1,285,897 comments, 82.5 million views, 21.5 million visits. Views and visits have grown gradually over the years. You’ll have to ask Sundance about income; there is ad income and donations, like yours. I don’t think it has any effect on bandwidth. The admins have no knowledge of total income, and we are strictly volunteers.

The name “Last Refuge” was suggested by Menagerie, but the URL wasn’t available. SD chose theconservativetreehouse.com on the fly (we were in a hurry that night, because we were without an online presence for several hours after Honey Trail blog was deleted). At first we all wanted The Last Refuge, but the Treehouse sort of grew on all of us.

    Trump’s Secret Advisors

A very significant report appeared on Bloomberg View this morning – a first look inside Donald Trump’s policy war room.

So what are the guiding principles behind Trump’s policy decisions?

Well, they are far from random – the Trump campaign just likes to hold their cards very close to their chest.

Bloomberg’s Josh Rogin interviewed Sam Clovis, Trump’s chief policy advisor, a retired U.S. Air Force Colonel and former Iowa Senate candidate.

I was flipping through the TV while I was eating lunch and stopped on that show The Chew. They had Christie Brinkley on promoting her book. She was going on how she became a vegetarian after reading about Chicago slaughterhouses when she was a teen. Her kindness to animals brought her good karma and saves the environment and basically a pitch to buy her book, go veggie and you too can look as young as she does at 62.
All I can say is I too could look as young as her if I had a plastic surgeon. When your skin doesn’t move when you smile that didn’t come from eating veggies.

Special Ops cmdr. demands White House stop disclosing mission details

Gen. Joseph Votel cites administration’s political bragging rights

    http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2016/feb/1/l-todd-wood-special-ops-cmdr-demands-white-house-s/

Gen. Joseph Votel, the chief of U.S. Special Operations Command (SOCOM) and future commander of U.S. Central Command, sent a letter in early December to Secretary of Defense Ash Carter requesting that the executive branch stop disclosing details of special operator missions for political gain.

“I am concerned with increased public exposure of SOF activities and operations, and I assess that it is time to get our forces back into the shadows,” Votel wrote, reports Foreign Policy. Votel added that discussing operations makes it more difficult for commandos to conduct those missions, and he “requested the department support him with an approach to avoid public discussion of SOF activities,” the official said, paraphrasing the brief memo.

Despite the fact that publicizing special operations mission details and tactics can get operators killed and risks mission failure, the Obama White House has been quick to release details of SOF activities. The most famous example is the raid to kill Al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden. Then Secretary of Defense, Robert Gates, severely criticized the White House for releasing details about the raid.

I think she means that Trump keeps saying that Obama is stupid and dangerous for always announcing what our military is doing or going to do. The General is confirming what Trump has been saying. So perhaps Trump calling the revengeful and petty Obama out on the mat on his outlandish behavior was an impetus for General Votel to voice his concerns.

I think Trump has encouraged people to believe that maybe, just maybe, someone will have their back.

Anyhow that is why I liked your post auscitzenmom, so I hope I got it right.
