Nyet, I seldom comment at the Tree lately, after finding this little hideaway. (Thanks, Stella!) This is like a cozy living room on a side branch of the Tree. No trolls. Nobody we don’t recognize from years of commenting at CTH. No strife. And I am honored to be able to pull up a chair among you folks.
If I comment over there in a regular thread, it’s something I want everyone to see.

I agree taqiy, I got quieter and quieter as the Tree got more popular. I prefer the more intimate conversation groups. This corner of the internet is friendly, fun, and she’s offering interesting topics and posts, and hey, Caturday!
Although, as a pup lover, I seem to be discriminated against!

I remember a few times there were some rather angry posts that asserted the CTH daily thread was a clique that could post or write things that the other gusts couldn’t. However, once those people are blocked everything quieted down and we could enjoy our thread again.

If it was a clique, it was a one of people who understood what the OT was about, and why there were other threads for the obsessive people whose whole life revolved around the current shooting or campaign.

“Manfred” asked the following this morning on the OT:
I’ve been curious for a while: why do “open threads” have the Lord’s Prayer and a picture of a military cemetary? What does the picture have to with the passage? What does either have to do with the purpose of providing an open thread?
Somebody answered: God and country first.

I wasn’t about for the early days of TCTH rather I arrived on a branch not long after Frowny Brown was shot.
I was pleased to find mostly rational talk and people dissecting the media’s false narrative.
I didn’t post on the daily chat at first but when I read there I never felt it was a clique. People have history and they are going to have conversations where a new person can’t jump right in, it is the state of being human, but I thought 99% of the daily thread was all inclusive whether you were a noob or an old timer.
Something I really appreciated when I first arrived at the Tree was the lack of “personal bash pile-ons” unfortunately that seems to be a prevalent state of being now. Trolls were met with the silent treatment or quickly “bounced” now, not so much.
I was recently accused of being a bearded Muslim man Cruz-bot because I had the audacity to say that there are far better weapons to wield against a Cruz presidency than the NBC argument.
Whatchagonnado?
Anyhow. I am pleased to be welcome at Stella’s Place and happy to chat with all you fine folks.

Actually one of my dogs is far more cat-like than dog like.
She is a 7 pound Italian Greyhound. Italian Greyhounds have very thin bones so they can’t support being chubby and they have almost zero body fat. This made them a favorite of the pharaohs who used them as bed warmers to combat the cold desert nights.
They are featured in some of ancient Egyptian art and some Italian Greyhound enthusiasts even insist that the head of the Anubis is that of an “Iggy”.
And yes some people disapprovingly ask me if I feed my dog 🙄

These days I can’t even keep up with the conversations there and I don’t recognize most of the names anymore. They’re not as friendly as the old tree members either.
The election is important but nothing but election talk will drive a person insane.

A few years ago we were at my parent’s house for a get together, my 16 year old spider phobic daughter was sitting at the table with a bunch of us when she saw a spider on her shoulder. In front of about 10 people she ripped her blouse right of her body and went running and screaming into the bathroom.
She also jumped into the lake once because there was a spider on the paddle boat.
Poor kid, if I sent her this she would likely faint.

Many years ago, I had a hysterectomy. The doctors told me to walk every day but I lived up on a very steep hill and couldn’t walk easily up it after the surgery. We had a very large patio out back with a pool, so I went out there and did laps around the pool, just wearing my tee shirt style gown that came to my knees. My next door neighbor saw me and came out one afternoon to ask how I was. While we were talking a bee flew up my gown and starting stinging me on my sore stomach.
I honestly don’t remember much after that, but apparently I pulled the gown up over my head, covering it, but not off, and ran in circles in my underwear, eventually running into the house crying. That part I do remember. The neighbor said I negotiated the few steps completely blind, still having the gown over my head.
At least where I live now if I run around partially unclothed only the dogs witness it. Which is one big reason I live where I live.

Oh, getting the pig and butchering and curing the bacon too much work? lol
My daughter’s FIL’s girlfriend was watching me take the bacon out of the fridge one night when they were over for dinner and when I opened the package she asked me if it was already cooked. She couldn’t believe how good it smelled and kept saying store bought bacon doesn’t smell like that. She wanted to eat my bacon raw.
I know it smells good and it makes even me hungry when I smell it, but it’s been so long since I bought bacon from the store I forgot how store bought bacon doesn’t have that same mouth watering smell out of the package that our bacon has.

We’ve noticed that with almost every product in the store. Since the Mrs. didn’t grow up here in the US, she comments on things much more than I do. The smells and textures of fruits, vegetables, meats, birds, and fish is completely different.

For example, free range chicken is totally different from supermarket chicken – different texture, less fat, tastier. Diet is the biggest difference. Same thing with eggs.

My greatest complaint about the produce section is tomatoes. Sometimes I crave a fresh tomato in the off season and you can’t find a good tomato at the store. You might find one that looks good, but it doesn’t smell like a tomato and it has no flavor.

The only ones I buy in the winter are the Campari brand. Those are the “cocktail” size tomatoes on the vine. They actually taste like tomatoes.

The Mrs. was saying every place but in the US, you have to go down to the market daily and buy produce and/or dairy to make that day’s meals. After 24 hours its bad. Tomato’s from the store here sit unchanged for a week or two.

I think here they move everything into cold storage at night. That’s deadly for things like tomatoes and peaches. Changes the flavor and texture.

It will be a little while here before we can start planting, but I always get excited the first time we get in the dirt. lol
We always keep one or two pigs in the garden over winter, they keep the ground broke up and eat the roots of any weeds that might show up. Makes life easier.

We learned that by accident years ago. We had built a bigger pig pen and decided to turn the smaller pig pen into a small garden. That first year all we planted was cantaloupes in it as it was kind of an after thought and we already had everything else planted.
We had so many huge cantaloupes. We couldn’t eat or give them all away. So we started feeding pigs cantaloupes and every since we’ve done it.
Then I remembered that my parents and grandparents would do that, but I never was curious enough to ask why.

Thomas Paine, was with the Continental Army (1776), crossing from New York into New Jersey. Yes, Paine carried a rile, pen, and paper.
An article on the Stop Shouting blog, author by PZ mentions “Total Resistance” a how to do by the Swiss population. My point is this; the late summer, fall campaign by the New Jersey Militia units needs mentioning as a example of “how to” in Total Resistance. The NJ militia units set the stage for Washington’s River crossing, Christmas Day attack.

It is my firm conviction that back then, most men were men. As in really know how to use the testosterone to do what needed to be done, and the women were pretty tough too.
Now the percentage of men George could load on that boat on Christmas morning, leaving bloody footprints in the camp snow, with the actual fortitude to fight a battle, much less go home and built a country worth the fight they put up, is in the minority. And the women. Well, my opinion of the have to be mollycoddled and pampered and jeweled and lacquered and layered and painted women, who then squeeze 10 pounds of made up face and the body with it into two square inches of material, usually see through. Well, I have an even worse opinion of many of today’s women than I do the men.
Then you get to meet the brats they are raising.
Ah, but when you do meet a real man and woman, with a family growing right, it’s so worth getting to know them. As they run life circles aroung Biffy, Scout, Trey, and Biffytoo.

A Poem
I was shocked , confused, bewildered
as I entered Heaven’s door,
not by the beauty of it all,
nor the lights or its decor.
But it was the folks in Heaven
who made me sputter and gasp–
the thieves, the liars, the sinners,
the alcoholics and the trash.
There stood the kid from seventh grade
who swiped my lunch money twice.
Next to him was my old neighbor
who never said anything nice.
Bob, who I always thought
was rotting away in hell,
was sitting pretty on cloud nine,
looking incredibly well.
I nudged Jesus, ‘What’s the deal?
I would love to hear Your take.
How’d all these sinners get up here?
God must’ve made a mistake!.’
‘And why is everyone so quiet,
so somber – give me a clue.’
‘Hush, child,’ He said,
‘they’re all in shock.
No one thought they’d be seeing you.’

We’re going to see a movie made by her favorite YouTubers because that is a thing these days.

LOL, yep!!
The crazy thing is, the movie was really, really good! Funny, action packed, really original. The young ‘uns in the audience obviously were keyed into a lot of inside stuff that the cast do on their channels, but all of the parents were laughing out loud. It was fun.

What is the name of the movie?
Glad you had such a good time!

It’s called “Lazer Team”, produced by a company called Rooster Teeth.

I just heard of that one this morning. Since the mafia movies are more the Mrs. cup o’ tea, we have some Italian movie to watch.

P.S.: Sorry to be the bearer of bad tidings, but CTH, SD, and the admins are being slandered on the internet as – get this – supporters of Hillary Clinton in 2008.
Check out the post about the Iowa Secretary of State (here at Stella’s Place), and read the comments.

The first thing I thought of is that we all used to hang out at hillbuzz.org, and kevie used to be a Hillary supporter, so somebody who doesn’t know the whole story took a leap to an incorrect conclusion. If you read all of her (and it is a woman) comments, it’s obvious she’s at the very least embroidering the truth. She calls SD a full out Hillarybot.

Or maybe not. People can’t help being not too smart, but ignorance and stupidity are choices.

This little guy reminds me of a family friend from my childhood. He was a fragile little guy and had to be over 90 years old, we would go visit him about once a week. We would be watching the news together and some terrible character would come across the screen, without fail he would look at me and say “Lovely, I think we should go kick his ass.”
Then he would wink and smile while punching his fist in his open hand.

When my kids were teens we were in a store, I think it was Bass Pro Shop in Springfield, MO, but it might have been a different store. Anyway, we were walking around looking at stuff and they had the cans of whoop ass, it was the first time I had saw one. So I pick it up and am reading it and I think my DH is behind me so I say in my serious voice, “I’m going to open up a can of whoop ass on you.” It wasn’t my DH and the person was looking at me half in fear and half in anger and about the same time I hear my 3 kids and my DH laughing. They had witnessed it and thought it was hilarious.
I was embarrassed and I’m sure my face was beet red as I apologized and tried to explain I was just reading the can.
To this day anyone says “whoop ass” they will say, “mama’s going to open up a can of whoop ass on you,” and then they’ll ask, “do you remember that time?” I always tell them that I won’t ever forget because they won’t allow me to forget.
