My daughter in law’s grandmother was Irish, and as a child her mother visited Ireland with her mother. The entire family to this day has many Irish customs, though my daughter in law and her siblings never got to know their grandmother, as she died fairly young I think. Anyhow, she is the only person I know here in the south who drinks tea like that. And I am the only person here in the south who hates sweet tea.

I use pecans instead of walnuts. This pie is not good warm. It’s actually better the next day. Also, i like it cooked just not quite set. It makes the top crusty, with a gooey caramel below. If you cook it hard it’s like a big chocolate chip cookie, still good, but I like it better gooey. It’s wonderful with real whipped cream.

Donald Trump was talking about the don’t rock the boat politics permeating America and the dire finical situation we are in over 25 years ago.
Donald Politicians don’t want to make waves.
Donald The problem I have with that is I don’t believe you can keep it the way it is. See I don’t believe a country can continue to lose perhaps two hundred billion a year, now nobody knows what is going to happen, nobody knows, who knows really, I mean economists I think it’s a wasted profession, as far as I’m concerned because I’ve never seen one that’s consistently right. But nobody knows what’s going to happen but I’m again somebody that has a good instinct financially, I have had historically, I follow markets I go the right direction whether it’s NY real estate or stocks or whatever.
I know from a common sense financial standpoint that something, that something has got to burst, when a country is losing billions and billion and billions of dollars a year and when other countries are making hundreds of billions of dollars, something is going to burst and it is going to start here.
I know it, it’s a matter of when, to me it is not a question of if, it is a question of when and unless we’re going to solve the problem and our problem is caused by our “allies” unless we’re going to solve that problem this country is in very, very big trouble. And I’m not talking recession trouble, I’m talking depression kind of trouble, and thats when we’ll get smart.”
Interviewer And what happens to Donald Trump in a depression?
Donald Well Donald Trump gets hurt like everyone else. Donald Trump who knows. I’m a very conservative guy, I believe in having cash as opposed to a lot of other people who don’t have cash, I have wonderful properties, I have wonderful everything. Donald Trump gets hurt, everybody gets hurt, essentially the country goes, essentially goes down the tubes.”
I interviewer Pretend that you are in charge, what happens? The Donald is running the show
Donald I’ve come a long way with you (chuckles 🙂 ). I wouldn’t want to do it I’ll tell you why, I do not want to do it, I love what I am doing now, I have a certain freedom, I don’t think anyone does it better than I’ve done it. I mean I haven’t really been around that long I mean if you look around it’s 10 years it’s 12 years, it’s not a long period of time in terms of years in what I’ve been able to build.
Interviewer Would you like to take over and run the country like you run your organization.
Donald I would much prefer that somebody else do it. I just don’t know if the somebody else is there. I don’t know if we have the kind of advocate that we need. We need major surgery this country needs major surgery.
Interviewer Are you the surgeon?
Donald I think I’d do a fantastic job but I really would prefer not doing it…….. I don’t know how much longer we have. But again I do know one thing, it’s not a question, this country is losing hundreds of billions, it’s not a question of if, it is a question of when, it is going to happen, it is going to happen drastically, it is going to happen dramatically and it is going to be horrible, and I’ll tell you the other thing, this country has always acted best under adverse conditions, whether it’s wars or anything else that’s when unfortunately we’re going to wake up. I’d like to see the country wake up long before that.”
If not me, who? If not now, when? Donald has answered that question.

Thanks to all those who took part in our Friday Quiz. The theme was Robert Burns and the question was:
Faced with financial difficulties in the 1780s, Burns considered emigrating to work on a slave plantation (albeit as a ‘bookkeeper’). In which country?
The answer, as many of you guessed correctly, was the Caribbean island of Jamaica.

Now they’ll be saying he isn’t a true Christian.
I’m getting tired of seeing that, especially when it is said by those professing to be Christians.
While I’m getting things off my chest, I’m tired of seeing if you support Trump you must love ethanol subsidies, but if you point out that not only do you hate ethanol and ethanol subsidies but you hate all farm subsidies just like you hate all subsidies including but not limited to oil subsidies. Then you’re a liberal who hates farmers and oil companies.
LikeLiked by 5 people
The point I have made is that, yes, Ted Cruz has spoken against ethanol mandates (I think the subsidies are gone, aren’t they?), but he wants to phase them out over at least five, maybe seven, years. Reminds me of the congressmen who brag about how they are cutting spending, but the savings don’t come for ten years.
LikeLiked by 2 people
Why phase them out if you’re against them?
I’ve never made it a secret that I hate ethanol and I want 100% gas nor have I made it a secret I love farmers.
However, I don’t understand why it’s okay for those against ethanol to give subsidies to any farmers or oil companies. It is technically a form of welfare, at least imo it is.
For an example close to home which caused many that I call friends to get furious at me. They were giving out government money to those who were harmed by the drought. I believe it was $500 per head of cattle. They did not even have to prove they were harmed as long as they could prove they had cattle in the counties approved for the money. I was not quiet about how wrong I thought it was. I was also told how stupid I was that I didn’t sign up for it.
Those same people who got mad and called me stupid complain about corn subsidies and welfare yet cannot see that they aren’t really all that different.

Subsidies were done to control market prices. That’s socialism. I think all subsidies should go and we allow the free market to actually be free.

From Facebook. I love this.
from my friend Ignatz on JOM
Seems to me a good case can be made the Republican party is in mortal danger because of its stupidity, but it is a stupidity quite the opposite of what the intellectualoids imagine.
Most people acknowledge either explicitly [on the right] or implicitly [on the left, through its gangster, power-by-any-means-other-than-honest-debate strategy] that the right won the intellectual war.
What it lost (and why people are so angry) is the war of doing, not the war of thinking. And it lost because the right was ruled largely by the self important eggheads who wanted a polite (or perhaps even a bit naughty at times) debating society in uneasy alliance with the GOP old bulls and the big business Chamber of Commerce glad handers who oppose everything the eggheads believe except the profits and cash that flow from the economic eggheads’ theories.
Left behind with the meager, moldy table scraps and a huge case of heartburn were all the saps made up of families and entrepreneurs and employees and the middle class and social conservatives and churchgoers.
That’s why a short fingered vulgarian with funny hair and the mouth of a perch who tells all the smart set SOB’s to eff off is so popular and why arguments about how he isn’t a proper egghead and isn’t polite and isn’t purely from the Austrian school and all the rest just make him more popular; people want to see the criminals on the left and the prim little pearl claspers and hog snouted party bosses kicked vigorously in the testes until they all stop, drop and roll.
There is no easy way out for the Repubs. Once you have lost all credibility with people of good faith you have a real problem.
The Dems have no such problem. They made their deal with Mephistopheles long ago and do not even pretend to govern in good faith or on behalf of people of good faith. Their long term problem is the one Faust discovered and is personified by the corpulent demon in a pantsuit they pinned their hopes on.
The Reps OTOH hand need to transform themselves into a party of action. That reality is why people who otherwise would run screaming from a guy like Trump recognize that he has a point and that if his kick-em-in-the-balls attitude could be grafted onto the lily-livered, Casper Milquetoast eggheads perhaps the tide could be turned.
If you continually promise to do things and don’t deliver to people who desperately need something done they will quite rationally turn to someone who promises to break every piece of China in the shop because an unpredictable kick-ass is a perfectly rational alternative to known pussies who are afraid of their own shadow and NEVER DELIVER.

All 4 service academies attract bright, committed, hard working young people who want an excellent education and the opportunity to serve our country as military officers. My DH is a graduate of the Coast Guard Academy (Class of 72) and regularly encourages bright young people to consider a service academy. We recently sent Donald Trump a postcard ( http://theconservativetreehouse.com/2015/10/29/coldanger-postcard-campaign/ ) that said:
Photo Op Idea: Donald Trump standing on the bow of the US Coast Guard Cutter Trump (recently in the news for a rescue operation) while under way. Trump to the rescue! And Mr. Trump, please add the Coast Guard Academy to the list of service academies you mention in speeches. West Point, Annapolis, AF and CGA!

Excellent commentary on Fox, the debate, and Trump (from Tom Lipscomb, on Facebook):
Tom Lipscomb IS THIS THE END OF ROGER AILES?
Clarice Feldman and Robb Evans show that the totally partisan and unprofessional statement given out by Fox News BEFORE Trump cancelled was sent to at least TWO places, Business Insider and Mediate… There must have been more.
“We learned from a secret back channel that the Ayatollah and Putin both intend to treat Donald Trump unfairly when they meet with him if he becomes president. A nefarious source tells us that Trump has his own secret plan to replace the Cabinet with his Twitter followers to see if he should even go to those meetings.”
As NY Mag points out this week, Murdoch is now showing up at the daily news meetings at Fox. And we know the Murdoch kiddies HATE Ailes and would love to get rid of him.
It isn’t about a feud between Meghan Kelly (gallantly supported by Fox) and unreasonable egomanic Trump any more.
It is about totally unprofessional and partisan behavior by a network against one particular candidate. And every media professional will know just how bad that is.
It’s not just ethics… it is going to cost Fox millions.

Teh FB is all lit up with a million posts and articles about this. My question is since Rupert’s not really running his company anymore, is his kid even gonna care about this….or eyeballs only? 😯

According to Tom Lipscomb, Murdoch is once again hands on (see above):
“As NY Mag points out this week, Murdoch is now showing up at the daily news meetings at Fox. And we know the Murdoch kiddies HATE Ailes and would love to get rid of him.”

Trump source says Trump isn’t taking Ailes calls. Hannity just tried calling trump as an emissary. Trump only wants to deal with Murdoch now
A follow up tweet said per Trump Murdoch is the chairman of the board at Newcorp and he is the chairman of the board of his company and he will only deal chairman to chairman now.

I’m only going by what I’m reading because as you know I no longer have satellite but if what I’m reading is true I’m losing respect for Ted Cruz. I understand it’s politics and I understand Trump has said some outrageous things, but when you have MK tweeting the race will look different Friday(my paraphrasing of the tweet that is floating around) and you have what they had planned for the last debate and this totally outrageous press release and then Cruz to go on these shows and say Trump is scared of MK and won’t go in front of Iowans it says to me he is just a tad slimy.
Personally I think he could have helped himself if he had said, “I wish Trump would reconsider but I believe you guys trying to turn a Presidential race into a joke is disgusting,” or something along those lines.
I know that you remember Cruz was my choice and although I may have given my honest feelings that I lost trust in him and that I did not think he could win and I find the whole “anointed king” stuff creepy, I still respected him.

This is the statement I was trying to remember. Every time they spoke of the debate it seemed like they were smirking.

I can’t figure out why Fox would do this. It is a given they will lose money, what were they hoping for?

From what I understand they were not right at the bird refuge when the encounter took place, and what are “traffic police” are they really going to expect us to believe that the CfCF were allowed to just roam about without a heavy FBI shadow.
I’m unsure but it appears that there still may be armed men at the Malheur NWR?

Didn’t one of the reports say that FBI agents were also sent there?

Several other people were also said to have been detained, while one person is dead. Local outlet KATU News reported that an incident occurred during a traffic stop as Bundy and a group of his supporters were commuting to a community meeting being held some 70 miles away.
Before his arrest in Burns, Santilli reported that “FBI sources stated that those at the Refuge are currently free to leave unimpeded, implying that there might be action it they do not leave immediately.”

Totally off topic, but saw Tex and wondered if he still knows insurance stuff. When I was in hospital a while back, I was very ill and different docs saw me. Now my hub made sure we went to hosp that was in our network but we didn’t know you have to make sure every doctor in the hosp that treats you is in network as well? So it looks like we are going to have to pay them plus what they did out of pocket. To say this is upsetting is putting it mildly. Multiple procedures and days that they did whatever they did. My husband was worried about me, I was too sick to even think, and so we apparently messed up. We are hoping that the procedures will be covered as they were in the hosp, but the docs won’t be.
The insurance papers say that we elected to use docs not in our network, we didn’t know we had to ask, so just to let you guys know, you have to ask. We feel so stupid, at least I do, because it never occurred to me. Hub is mad at ins. company.

I don’t think you shouldn’t feel stupid at all. These rules by the insurance companies are so difficult to keep up with. This is something I would have known.
