   I’ll just leave this here. Just read this Facebook post by Dennis Michael Lynch:

   WHO LIKES TRUMP v WHO LIKES CRUZ

   Full disclosure: I like both Trump and Cruz, and both would make a much better president than Hillary or Jeb. But if I had to vote tomorrow, I’d lean towards DT for one very big reason: The general election.

   I’ve never been sold on Cruz’s ability to pull in the independent voters. Two years ago during a speech in Arizona, I said the same exact words I write here today… The media will paint Cruz as a hater.

   Thus, his recent comments regarding NY values will play out as a mistake later on if he wins the nomination. When I speak to people who vote, but who are apolitical, I never hear them mention Cruz. I hear Trump’s name 70% of the time. The other 30% say Hillary, Carson or Rubio. The media and Hillary will use the NY values comment to paint Cruz as a divider knowing the American people have had enough of that sort of thing with Obama.

   As of June 2015, the number of people registered as independents has grown to 45 percent — just 2 points shy of the number of Democrats and Republicans combined. In Florida, a major 2016 battleground state, the number of independent voters has grown by 1,000,000 people in the last 10 years. Florida has a HUGE number of transplants from New York.

   Like it or not, elections are won in the middle. In my opinion, candidates who do not connect with the nation’s increasingly independent-minded electorate will pay the price. In the same way Trump made a mistake when hitting on the voters of Iowa, Cruz made a mistake at hitting on NY, only Cruz doubled down on his comments during a debate watched by millions of people, and Trump will pound on Ted’s NY values comment for the next few months.
