Morning Stella! Cold cloudy night. The snow is arriving later tonight thru Monday. Not much, just 2-3 inches, then the cold moves in. Hey it’s winter! Just stoked the wood stove. Going back to sleep, for awhile.

More from GoV:
Return to Dachau
“…The Germans are insane: they do not detain anyone; the migrants have free movement not just in the camp, but they can go into town, actually, all over Germany. It is not unusual for taxis to go off to somewhere or to be returning from places. How the German Secret Service deals with this and ensures that no terrorists are among them remains a mystery to me…”

LOL – I always laugh at those bacon pics, as I’m actually “vegan” but it’s totally for health/food allergy reasons…I have no Moral issues at all about eating meat. I use quotes because as with any Diet I cheat once in a while – every time I see that platter of bacon I start drooling for a BLT or a big stacked Club sandwich. Bacon is a dealbreaker on vegetarian diets – haha.

I Love it – this one goes to my daughter (the one who gave up trying to be an English teacher because she couldn’t handle the stupid Racial Justice classes they forced her to take in college). She just signed up to try getting ESL certification – says she wants to go teach in China! I’m not even going to waste the air it would take to argue that until she’s actually looking at a job offer in Beijing 🙂

Morning, Miss Wee. After 2 very short nights, I overslept this morning. Didn’t get up until just after 8.
We’re in the mid20s today with maybe some light snow showers tonight. They are predicting the low teens tomorrow. If so, it will be our coldest day this winter. But it’s funny, for about the last 50 years, our coldest day, with wind chills in the -20s, is within a week of January 21st. If this is the coldest this winter gets, it’s a relatively warm one. Not that I’m complaining!
Think I’ll take a “snow day” today even though our all got washed away be last weeks rain. Stella made me nostalgic last night with her movie post. This afternoon, I’ll put GWTW in the DVD player and try out my new gluten free bread book. (Christmas present from Papa. He misses the homemade bread and I haven’t found a recipe worth making since discovering the gluten problem.) And I don’t even have to go to work tomorrow, or the next day, or the next….

morning Granny – you really got me going with your 60s post from last night 🙂
Good luck with your bread – my experience with gluten-free breads (and I’m NO expert, believe me) is that slow-rise methods turn out a lot better than fast-rise. I actually made a sourdough last year that had no yeast – just started with (non-wheat) flour and water – took 10 days, but it was so good! Not suggesting you try that 😉

Enjoy your time reading and watching that wonderful movie. My personal favorite is another epic – Doctor Zhivago.

I think I wrote about the ‘Doctor Zhivago’ movie before. Since it’s an American film, there are parts of Russian culture in the story that were interpreted without understanding there were differences. The result was theaters full of laughter in the USSR when the movie showed there. I didn’t really understand what was so funny myself even after having been told and watched the parts.
Then I watched a USSR movie made from American stories. If the lines hadn’t been spoken in Russian you would think you were watching a Hollywood made movie. Except for a small part here and there where the Russians misinterpreted some bit of American culture.
They didn’t know what people ate in the towns of the old west, so they made a guess. Everyone dinning in the restaurants had an entire cow’s leg on their plates that they would pick up with their hands and eat like a piece of chicken. I laughed hard for about 20 minutes. None of the Russians had ever thought twice about it since it was just something in the background.

Hope I don’t wear out my welcome here by commenting on everything, but there’s a reason I don’t create a wordpress account and give “likes”. I’m a self-employed IT person, and my main client uses gmail/wordpress, so I sign in to their accounts on those sites – I also work from home, so it’s not a matter of using their login during certain hours.
I can’t run the risk of ‘liking’ something and having Their name show up as the user – I’ve worked with computers long enough to know that no matter how hard we try, these machines will often do what They want to do, not necessarily what I want it to do.
The same would be true for Twitter/Facebook, but I don’t do social sites anyway – I don’t like giving away any more personal information than absolutely required to use the internet in general. I always laugh when I see news articles that says “they have no online footprint – there’s No Way a person in this day and age wouldn’t have pictures or other info online”…well, some of us work very hard to keep it that way. My kids are all under threat of disinheritance if they post a pic of me online 😉
I don’t use a smartphone either (same privacy reasons) – I signed up to volunteer with Trump’s campaign, but unless they need someone sitting at a landline making calls or going door-to-door, I’ll probably be useless to them, right? Oye, this world we live in –
So thanks for your patience with my numerous comments – just think of most of them as a Like =)

The most plausible explanation for the 10 riverine sailors captured by Iran

Good article – I was going to call my Navy-retired brother and ask his opinion on this.
Two things stand out in my mind (things I read early on in news articles):
1) The original claim was that they had a mechanical failure and “got lost”/lost navigation- there was a theory flying around that the GPS had been disabled by some sort of EMP weapon, which sounded plausible to me. Never heard much more about that.
2) In the original reports – particularly those coming out of FARS in the statement from the Iran Revolutionary Guard (can’t remember the correct acronym) – they stated that the Navy had “acted unprofessionally” for about 40 minutes, and there was some talk of planes coming in flying low or something to cause a disturbance – I haven’t seen any more about this, either, but it made it seem like we Did balk at their capture and resisted at first, but then backed off.
Those were both before I heard that Kerry called Iran and asked for help when the Navy lost track of them. aargh.
I posted both items at the time over at CTH – I’d go back and locate the original posts, but ever since “the birthers” showed up a few days ago, I’ve given up on tracking conversations on that site. Don’t get me wrong – I’m a newbie there like so many others (only started posting on that site about a week ago), and everyone is entitled to their opinion, but the first few days I was there I could actually follow a conversation – now, I post a reply and by the time I go back to look for a response I have to plow through multiple Pages of replies to locate something (one time a wordpress account would be really helpful, so it’s my own fault). It’s why I came over here (and thanks for letting us know about this alternative in one post, Stella) – I like online discussion, but I have no interest in getting online and fighting back and forth with people/trolls, stating the same points over and over again ad nauseum. Some people Do enjoy that – I’m not one of them.
LikeLiked by 4 people
You are welcome, Regina. I don’t enjoy stating the same points over and over, either. The birther topic is a hot one, and generates clicks, that’s for sure. It can be difficult when there are so many people commenting.

Does anyone know if there’s a rally today? I thought there was, but I don’t see it listed – give this man a day off with his family! He has two events tomorrow, and Three on Tuesday…jeez
I see they’ve updated (what used to be) the Events page – now it’s called “Schedule”, and the entries have a link for Media Request. It would be cool if they started filtering out which media coverage they allow, and made “Show the Crowd!” a requirement for media participation
http://www.donaldjtrump.com/schedule
Looks like the whole website has been updated to be more “device friendly” – ugh.
I’m so analog – I hate all this finger-scroll stuff. Just give me WORDS (not icons) and a link to click on…that’s all I’m asking {sigh}
speaking of – have y’all noticed (I lived in Georgia, so I still get to say y’all haha) that when Trump walks up to the mike, the entire crowd holds up phones to take pics? LOL – makes me think of those “if an alien saw us” analogies…just amazes me how people have signed on to the whole phone thing. Used to be that one could go out and live life without being accessible 24×7 – remember way back before answering machines, where you might actually have to try Calling Back when there was no answer, or a busy signal? Or when we Shared party-lines, and you’d have to wait until the neighbors were through with the phone before you could use it? Melancholia –

Trump brands Cruz a ‘nasty guy’
The fracas between the Republican presidential front-runners escalated Sunday as Donald Trump went after Ted Cruz’s likability, calling him a “nasty guy.”
“Nobody likes him, nobody in Congress likes him, nobody likes him anywhere once they get to know him,” Trump said in an interview airing on ABC’s “This Week.”
LikeLiked by 2 people
And Trump said he’ll consider filing his own lawsuit challenging Cruz’s eligibility to be president based on his birth.
“Maybe I’ll talk to them about it,” Trump said. “I’d like to talk to Ted about it, see how he’d feel about it — ’cause you know, when I file suits, I file real suits.”
LOL I love this guy

Warning: Just move on if you have an aversion to posts about killing mice.
Now that the weather has turned truly cold, are you looking for a safe & effective way to rid your house, barn, etc. of mice? (I know, the best way is a cat. But Papa is so allergic, I would be a widow very quickly with a cat on the property.)
Although we’re making progress, our “new” rural house has a mouse problem. It is aggravated by being empty about 1/2 the time. I hate most forms of mouse trapping & poisoning. I don’t want my dog or other innocent animals poisoned. I hate having to take care of finishing off still live critters or hearing them scream when trapped on glue traps. And I can’t set the old wire traps without serious damage to innocent fingers. So why this post?
We found some excellent, efficient, cheap, reusable traps recently at our local Rural King. They are easy to bait & set. They are easy to release the mouse from after the fact. And they are easy to clean. No, I do not have any interest in either Rural King or this company. Just sharing something that works extremely well for me. I’m thinking of buying a bunch to try on the field mice and voles in the garden this summer, too! Happy hunting!

Something that works on them that we put in the feed barn that won’t hurt our animals is a mixture of baking soda and borax.
We also of course have cats and we use traps and glue traps in the shop where there are no animals. Glue traps work well but you have to throw the entire thing away or at least I do as I’m not struggling to pull a darn mouse out of the glue.
I’m all for killing the disease carrying critters. The more I get, the fewer of them there are.

Two weeks in and Boland was crying in the bathroom. There were seventh-grade girls with tattoos and T-shirts that read, “I’m Not Easy But We Can Negotiate.”
Boland came to actively loathe most of the student body. He resented “their poverty, their ignorance, their arrogance. Everything I was hoping, at first, to change.”

What is Europe going to do?
Leftism has made the return of brutal nationalism, which they always say they hate, into something which seems inevitable — for what else can a nation do? Reason with them? Interrupt the music at Refugee Welcome Centers TWICE to say “Please stop raping and fondling and otherwise abusing the people responsible for your entry into our country! Please stop this AT ONCE.”, before resuming the barrage of party music? No, it’s going to come down to either Europe’s free people or Mordor’s orcs.
You shouldn’t have brought them, folks. Now you have to stop them, or be erased from Europe.
Or not, I guess. Fatalism originated in Europe, didn’t it?
Let it become the Caliphate, then.
