If I feel I am translating to return to my youth, then the government surely must pay for all my joint replacement surgeries and a facelift, right? And the dyed hair, and oh, all the things I just have to have to be twenty again, right? Surely this must be included in my civil rights!

I don’t know what I wrote, but it wasn’t translating to return to my youth. After reading that fuses blew in my brain. I’m on my first cup of coffee here. Last night was cookie night with the grandkids. My house looks like a scene from Animal House, and the hats after we cleaned up a lot last night.
Also, I have a Christmas Crack hangover, so I’m thinking about just having some more with my coffee.

Mornin’ Wee.
In my Christmas decorations is an old elf ornament that was my Mother’s. My great niece was over the other day and told me my elf was supposed to be on a shelf. I told her that elf had been in our family for as long as I could remember and it was nothing more than an ornament, there was no such thing as an elf on a shelf. We didn’t have psycho parents who told us an elf was watching us so we had to behave, they had a belt on a shelf that solved that problem.

We accidentally threw away all my kid made Christmas decorations years ago. It broke my heart and I went into a funk the whole season, which was of course self pitying nonsense. But still, they were irreplaceable.

My daughter found a Precious Moments angel tree topper at a thrift store when she was about 3 years old. She loved it. It topped our tree and she kept it in her bedroom and played with her throughout the year. The angel lost a hand, had her hair cut and lost all her golden bedazzlement, still she was beautiful to us.
At some point my husband was out shopping with a different daughter and they bought an angel tree topper together. So we switched years for the tree topper until the first daughter went off to college and took her angel with her. Now we always use the angel my husband and daughter bought together as our tree topper.

My younger grandson always asks me why I have an angel topper instead of a star, which is what they have on their tree. I’ve had my angel since the 1980’s, and she is wearing a white iridescent
dressgown (very popular for Christmas in the 80’s). I love her.LikeLiked by 4 people
We have an angel now too. When my kids were little I once found a tree topper that was Mary holding baby Jesus, and it had lights in it. If I remember correctly it cost almost forty dollars in the mid eighties, a great deal of money to spend then, on our budget. We all loved it, and absolutely wore it out over the years. It eventually became necessary to retire her.

Hmmm… my contributions this year to the family meal;
Grilled Chicken breasts marinated in rosemary, basil, garlic and olive oil
Warm Vegetable Medley; roasted red potatoes halved and baked with olive oil and salt, roasted red peppers, broccoli and sautéed zucchini,
Pasta Salad, by demand every year, because everyone else pretends like they can’t figure out how to make it as well as mine. Every year I tell them sauté your vegetables in olive oil and then add the olive oil that the veggies have been sautéed in along with the veggies to the pasta, it gives the salad a very rich flavor. No dressing.
Quinoa Salad
Artichoke dip with pita chips
Chocolate dipped Strawberries
Store bought corn chips and mango salsa everything else is homemade.
Visitors are always welcome 🙂

I just finished wrapping, and had a quick bite to eat. On with the cleaning!
LikeLiked by 3 people
I have maybe a half dozen presents left to wrap, the cornbread is baking for the dressing, the brine is made for the turkey, and I’m boiling potatoes just because I need the water for my Christmas bread recipe. Then on to cleaning. I dread that, although it isn’t so bad, not after cleaning up the cookie monster’s mess.
Tomorrow will be pretty busy though. If I lose power it’s going to really make me mad. However, I cooked my Thanksgiving turkey on the grill and it was really good, so we can all eat turkey and ham if nothing else.

Cooking question: what’s y’all’s favorite recipe for soup made with ham bones? (Other than split pea, that is–I know that one.)
LikeLiked by 2 people
I usually do split pea – but I use the yellow peas, rather than the green ones. I think they taste better. You could do a cabbage soup. That would be good. Or a minestrone-type soup, with lots of vegs, tomatoes, beans and pasta.
LikeLiked by 2 people
Navy or white beans. Yum on a cold winter day.
LikeLiked by 4 people
If the ham bone still has meat attached, ham soup with any/all vegetables you have on hand. Some peeps (I have done it!) throw in macaroni after it’s pretty much ready as a calorie/filler. Lotza btu’s on a cold night!
Best ham soup I ever had was in Nashville – old Navy cook had a big pot going, had potatoes, carrots, etc. navy beans, canned tomatoes – everything in the world. (This was during a huge party.) As it thinned down, he kept adding…. butter (lima) beans, whatever.
You can’t mess it up, Hugh said. 😀
