It’s funny – I haven’t thought of “Chef” in 25-30 years. I wish I could remember his last name – we called him Chef or Patsy, outside. He went back to the French Quarter, in the long run. 😉

That verse is amazing, isn’t it, Mary?
Joy is something that needs to be amplified, and thrown outward, and upward.
We can’t just sit on it, and hide it.
Paul went further and said it twice.
“…and again…”

Great description taqiy and I believe if it is indeed authentic joy it will, it must, be amplified, thrown outward and upward. I love that.

Gaudete! It gets a whole Sunday in Advent named for it, and Laetare Sunday during lent. The Church makes wonderful use of the liturgical calendar to gently guide us along on our journey of faith. And to remind us to rejoice.

Up ove 14 pounds now! He got a great report at the pediatrician’s office last Thursday. He goes back to the cardiologist in January. I’m kind of holding my breath until then, but I believe he will get the all clear then. He sure is a cutie, and the smiliest cooing little one I’ve seen. He’s very happy.
Thanks for your concern. Conner is a lucky boy, a blessed boy, to have had so many people praying for him, pulling for him.

Mornin’ Wee.
I was pleased to see our taxes pay for late teen/early twenties people’s food at the grocery store Saturday. I had saw them on the cracker aisle and overheard them arguing over having kids after they saw a baby, girlfriend wanted a baby, boyfriend didn’t. Then lucky me I got behind them at the register and watched the girl pay with an EBT card. I told the girl that I was going to ask a question that she’d probably find rude, but since I helped pay for them, I was curious how much a young couple with no kids gets in food stamps. She told me I was rude and that she only gets $120/month in food stamps and that she works and pays taxes as well, and that is a small amount that doesn’t feed her for a month and I should be more concerned with big business taking my money. I told her I was concerned with everyone taking my money and wouldn’t it be better if everyone stood on their own two feet and nobody’s money was taken and given to others, rich and poor alike? I think I confused her, as she didn’t say another word and walked off with her boyfriend and groceries with him telling her I was a rude b…h.

I could be mistaken, but I thought pre-Obama you had to have children or be elderly to get food stamps.
Young boyfriend probably had his own SNAP card. His Mama obviously didn’t teach him it’s not polite to call his elders a b…h.lol

I see groups of late teen/early twenties sitting/sleeping on sidewalks in Seattle, always begging for money with a dog. They sit outside grocery stores, drug stores, fast food places. I don’t see them in any stores often. When they’re less drugged up, they prowl cars, and commit other burglaries. They get counted in the city’s homeless crisis as the displaced due to Amazon/Microsoft/tech workers pushing them out of jobs (when they really never lived here before the OWS mess and certainty never had a job here to be displaced from). But Seattle has so many social welfare programs that take up a huge part of the city budget. We attract homeless from everywhere. I’m sure they vote as required as well.

My daughter was talking to a lady the other day who volunteers for a Church food and clothing bank. She said she had been doing it since she retired 20 years ago and up until about 5 years ago it would be people who were truly destitute, had lost their job or became ill and were just needing help until they could back on their feet. They had to quit just handing out to anyone who came knocking and started asking for proof of income or lack of income.
That’s sad to me that people who don’t really need it grab it up because it’s free.
However, she said there are still problems because the majority of them come in and tell you how they’re on assistance and go on to tell you about this program and that charity they’ve received help from. I guess if you know where to look and how to work it you can get just about everything you need from plenty of food to clothes, shoes, school supplies, utilities paid, house payment or rent paid for you, new roof, new HVAC, windows, doors, appliances and even a car for free.
It sounds to me like we give too much and instead of teaching people to fish we’re teaching them how to find people who will catch the fish, clean the fish, cook the fish and hand feed it to them and then do the dishes on top of it.

It’s name is socialism. Many immigrants from Russian Federation vs. refugees of the former USSR in the last 20 years take complete advantage of the welfare system and milk it for everything it’s worth. We know people from the USSR that came here with nothing and literally dug ditches while teaching themselves computer programming at night. Today one is a VP at a well known software company. We know another that started by teaching himself to fly using a computer simulator and is today a senior pilot for a major airline. Many of the recent immigrants are on welfare with the children getting involved is car chop shops and drugs.

Sadly though it’s not just immigrants. I would say young people aren’t taught like we were, but people from our generation are just as bad when it comes to looking for handouts.
Immigrants add to the problem because we shouldn’t allow immigrants who can’t support themselves.
If I could snap my fingers all immigration would stop until we could rid ourselves of all illegals and every American who is 18 to retirement age is supporting themselves.
Then when we did allow immigration again they would be heavily screened and only those who can benefit our country would be allowed in.

Showing my age, I suppose, but when I was a kid the only legal immigrants WERE educated, they WEREN’T diseased, COULD support themselves – as a matter of fact even later one of my daughter’s best friend’s parents (Russians, both doctors) were working shit jobs to get their credentials here to make a decent living. You should HEAR Marina tell about the all day wait for food over there…… they had 1 hard boiled egg a day and boiled spaghetti noodles. Every day.
Last time I heard tell, she still doesn’t touch them with a ten foot pole.

That’s the way it used to be, we didn’t seem to allow immigrants here if they weren’t able to support themselves.
I’m not sure exactly when that started to change. I do remember back in the early 80’s when it seemed like overnight the area I lived in at the time seemed overloaded with middle eastern immigrants.
Before then though immigrants talked about how long and how hard they worked to come here and how grateful they were. They loved being here because they could work to become whatever they wanted to be and cared about giving back and not about what they could get.

I don’t how many know who Joey and Rory are, but I became aware of them when they were on the show “Can you Duet.” I thought they were a cute couple with sweet personalities. So I sort of followed them for awhile and my husband and daughter always watched their show before we got rid of satellite.
I read Rory’s blog and even when the news is not good it always lifts my spirits because no matter how bad it is, Joey is always positive and trusting the Lord. Today Rory wrote about Joey getting out of bed for the first time in a long time and sitting on the floor and playing with Indy. Joey’s prayer now is to make it until Christmas and until Indy’s 2nd birthday.
My mother used to tell me anytime I complained about something that it could be worse. I think their family is going through the worst. I watched my sister die from cancer and it was horrible and it was sad, she also left behind her children, although they were older than Indy and they didn’t have downs syndrome, but that was the only thing that made my sister cry was that her youngest child who was just reaching her teen years wasn’t going to have her mom. Joey kind of reminds me of her, her faith was always strong, she wasn’t scared to die, but she was human and didn’t want to leave her children and didn’t want her children to have to grow up without her. She also had prayers that she would live long enough to see her oldest son married and she did, long enough to see her youngest son graduate from high school and she did, long enough to give her daughter a 13th birthday party complete with a slumber party and she did.
She taught us to cherish each day and to make memories with those left behind, much like Joey is teaching her family. So if you want to cry and smile I recommend Rory’s blog. http://thislifeilive.com/

I did read about this, and stumbled across her blog a couple of months ago. It’s very sad that she is terminally ill, and that dear little girl will be without her mom. Doesn’t the baby have Down Syndrome?
LikeLiked by 1 person
Yes she does. She was still an infant I believe when she first found out she had cancer and they did a complete hysterectomy and said they got it all. Then about a year later she found out it was back and in several different areas and they started treatments but they weren’t working.

My DH told me bacons is not a word, I told him we’re raising two of these to eat, so they are my bacons.:) If progs can change the definition of words and make new words, so can I.lol
