Stella, I made those lemon curd aebleskivers. They were delicious. I also made some with Nutella for my daughter in law, and she loved them. I really need to make some blueberry syrup or filling. I know that would be excellent.

My kitchen range is dying. I could have it repaired, I suppose, but it is almost 20 years old, and I never really liked it to begin with (it came with the house).

I’ve decided to buy a new stove. I’m looking at gas, with a convection oven, 30″ wide. I’ve just about decided on a Whirlpool that I saw at Home Depot. Discounted price of $999.

    Any suggestions from anybody?

Not for gas – in electric, you can get an induction range or regular flat ceramic top (I LOVED mine in our old house) but next time, I’m going for the flat-top induction with convection oven.

I already have a gas range. To change to electric would require rewiring of the location, which I don’t want to do. I like the gas burners, but don’t like regular gas ovens; that’s why I want the true convection gas oven.

The Mrs. never saw an electric range before coming here. I am amazed at how many pans she destroys by turning burners on high and walking away. Took me years to get her to stop turning baseboard heaters full on and off.

Maybe that’s the m.o. in Russia…… DH said that the locations he was at in Siberia were so damhot (steam heat) that they all slept with their windows cracked open.

For som reason, I’m reminded of how as a very young child visiting my grandparents we would get into my grandfathers Oldsmobile station wagon to go grocery shopping. I was sat (unbelted) between my grandparents on the front bench seat, and my mother and siblings (also unbelted) in the back seat. My grandfather would be gripping the steering wheel so hard his knuckles would be white, and my grandmother telling him to slow down or speed up, which lane to get into, etc. On more than a couple of occasions at a red light, he would stomp on the gas and scream “I’m going to kill us all!” We would all scream and my grandmother would start hitting him (forgetting I was between them, still unbelted) yelling “Stop it! Stop acting the fool!”. He would stomp on the break just before hitting the cross traffic somehow, and start swearing. I would then climb back to my assigned spot from where I had slid to the floorboard. We would make it to the store and/or home (depending upon when the suicide/murder attempt occurred) and no one would speak further about it. We hated riding with grandpa because we thought he was insane.
I realize now he was just married.

I managed to melt the spout off a tea kettle on an electric range (boiled dry), so I don’t know if that would help any. I never use a kettle without a whistle now.

I don’t know if I can find it, but someone from Eastern Europe that immigrated here, had their mother come visit. The mother didn’t know what the electric tea kettle was and wanted tea while everyone was sleeping. They awoke to fire alarms and smoke. Someone took a picture of the melted plastic tea pot oh the electric burner.

I have gas now but, as I said above, I don’t like gas ovens without convection. I don’t want to pay for a dual fuel range (electric oven), and don’t have room for a separate oven.

I have both, our house came with an electric convection wall oven and gas countertop. The gas cooktop is really old and doesn’t work that well and to find the odd size that will fit is really expensive. So we bought a gas range without convection. We have a huge kitchen. It makes it nice though during the holidays to have two ovens and two gas cooktops.
I can’t cook on electric. I’ve always had gas and the few times in my life I’ve tried cooking on others’ electric stovetops I usually ended up scorching what I was cooking.lol

I have found the electric convection oven cooks things much faster than the gas oven. I like it for some things, but hate it for things you bake slowly at a lower temp. It’s the first electric oven and the first convection oven I’ve ever had, so I can’t say whether it’s the electric or the convection part. I learned though the hard way when baking cookies or cakes, the same temp the time is half of what it is in the gas oven.

Oh and I have an old wood cooking stove in the shop. I bought it at first because I like old things, then I kept it because you never know when you might need it. It is not easy cooking with it though.

We’ve been dealing with this as well, but for different reasons. Due to the overbuilding in our area, and the grid not keeping up with the sprawl, our gas range, dishwasher and now heat pump have had their circuit boards fried by power surges. It’s getting pretty pricey.

We were looking at replacing our KitchenAid gas range/oven. I have the upgraded “commercial for home” burners and full convection oven and no end of frippery (“Sabbath Mode” , delay time cook, etc). To be honest, I don’t use the convection oven feature as much as I thought I would when we purchased it. I do like having the one super-power BTU burner on the range; and the newer ones with the central griddle are nice.

That being said, I’ve been advised by several shops to avoid the Samsung ranges – not because of any quality issues – Samsung has been building and selling appliances overseas for years, but because of complaints about sourcing parts and long lead times to get parts and the item serviced.

That and $2.75 will still get you a ride on the NYC Subway, FWIW. 😉

I haven’t had gas since I got married. I have had the smooth tops for some time, and my oven is convection, which I love. Sounds like a good choice.

I love my gas stove for cooking. I had electric years ago and I was not a fan, I’m a bit neurotic and hated that I couldn’t see a flame letting me know how hot the heat was. I could never comfortably trust the gauge on the stove knob 😦 .

I also have a friend who had an electric stove and 3 times her husband put a carry out pizza box on hot elements. They converted to gas 😀

Plus you can roast marshmallows over a gas top stove, always remember the important things in life 😉
