          I don’t want no sausage in my gravy. I’m particular like that. Even if we have fried chicken or ham or sausage, I cook some bacon. I shall make gravy with bacon grease or not at all.

          When I was a young bride every southern girl got a little silver bacon grease pot to set on her stove from her mama.

              You know how it is. There are some things so very important that there are strong feelings about the matter. Gravy is that important.

              True story. I am related (distantly by marriage) to two individuals who fought over the last of the gravy with a butcher knife and meat cleaver. Meat cleaver won. Ain’t sure which one of them scoundrels stole the last gravy in the pan all or themselves.

                I do comprendo. The nickname of Rancho el Gordito is Mrs. T’s House of Gravy, so I kin appreciate strong opinions of any persuasion. I for one have yet to find such a thing as “bad” gravy so I just sit and enjoy the end result. It’s alllllllll good. 😆

                Another true story. It took me months to learn to make gravy. I spent hours and hours the summer after I married learning how to cook, especially gravy, from my grandmother in law and mother in law.

                My husband used to proudly say his mama’s biscuits were the best in the world. A few months after she died he told me my biscuits were the best in the world, with a tear in his eye. I never wanted to hear him say that, but I did learn to cook from two fine women.

                Seems like not so many people value that skill anymore. Nothing was more important to me than learning to be a fine cook after I married.
