Thank you Stella. Just couldn’t sleep. Chilly here, we should bottom out around 29* tonight, then warm up into the 40s. Weekend looks good, low 50s, good for tractor maintenance and spreading some gravel around.

It’s chilly here, too. Our heatpump is on the fritz, blower works good, blows cool air but no heat. Thank goodness we have a fireplace which got a workout last night. Today’s mission is try and get a service callout appt before things get stacked up when the first real cold hits.

Did the rain finally stop?
I’ve about had it with this wild hog. It was back this morning but we couldn’t get a clear shot because the dogs were trying to chase it out. I have never seen a hog jump, but this thing jumped our fence. Ugly old huge spotted thing with very long tusks.
Got a hog hunter coming with a hog trap and my SIL is going to get up early Sunday morning and put the dogs up and wait on it to show up if the trap doesn’t work.

According to the hog guy they all jump and can clear 5ft. fences. I’ve never had a desire to hunt wild hogs, so I didn’t know that.
I’ll be glad when it’s gone, getting into our pasture is too close for comfort.
He also told us to be careful because sometimes they will charge you. Ain’t that just great?

Michellc, the hog hunter is right, stay away, if you don’t have a semi auto rifle of 7.62 cal stay away. If you use a lever action rifle, got to be 45/70, bolt action rifle 30.06. Tell your SIL seek elevation, at least 6-10 feet above the kill zone. These wild hogs do run in packs, keep the hounds tied and good hunting. Forgot, don’t eat the meat, do keep the tusks.

Big rifles we got. My SIL is the best shot around here and he enjoys hunting and he has taken down a few wild hogs. He only hunts wild hogs though out of necessity as they were about to ruin his deer hunting, tearing up his food plots. Those hogs though were smaller than this thing.
We have a sow that weighs 600lbs and he’s every bit as tall as her just not quite as long.

Good morning everyone. Big shindig in my town tonight. It’s the annual Christmas parade and we’ll have the policemen, firemen, farmers on their tractors, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, majorettes, dance schools, the local tree service with their big bucket trucks, the high school band, the mayor and council members, local businesses and any citizens who just want to march along, not to mention Santa himself for the event. My two oldest grandchildren are finally old enough to enjoy it. I look forward to it every year. Humble and kind of funny though it is, we love it and most of our community comes out for it. The restaurants, gift shops, and our coffe house (world class coffee I must say) stay open and do a booming business this night.
I hope your Friday is kicking off an awesome weekend too.

Another gripe of mine, this wild hog we’re dealing with it is obvious due to it’s size that it is crossed with a domestic pig. That could be accident, but I doubt as my closest neighbor just told me the story again of the people who about 15 years ago was going to have big game park. The first thing they brought in were wild hogs and then they started crossing them with domestic hogs to make a bigger wild hog. Their wild hogs started escaping and then they ran out of money and then they lost their land and all the hogs were set free. Nobody knows exactly how many, all they know is they started off with 5 wild boars and 20 wild gilts and sows.
So our wild hog problem is the fault of idiots.

Saw this on FB and have to say I understand his frustration. Not so sure I’d take their steak though.lol
Myself, I get more angry when I see them getting all this stuff through WIC and it never fails they try to get stuff they are not supposed to get, so I have to wait while they argue and then run back to get what they should have already known was what they get. Then after all that, they start on the rest of their stuff in the basket, which is usually frozen pizzas, box dinners, chips, cookies, candy and pop and they pay for that with their food stamp card. Then they put their cases of beer up and they try to pay with a debit or credit card and it doesn’t go through, so then they pull out cash and never have enough cash, so they can only get one case instead of the two or three they have.

I forgot, they usually don’t have enough on their food stamp card to buy all the junk food either, so they have to pick through what they want to put back.

I actually cheer when there is any possibility of a “government shutdown” (and you have to understand, my husband’s employer was the USG, so any “shutdown” affected us personally, not theoretically) because this is the only way this is going to stop. Defund IT ALL and then pass only targeted legislation for absolute necessities.
I’ve been speaking up re: the EBT cards for quite some time, especially if the EBT card holder is an immigrant in line in front of me and I’m not quiet about it, either. When I immigrated, my husband had to confirm he could financially support me. I get especially enraged when they whip out the EBT card, but have the latest very expensive cell phone and drive a nice car.

I usually make some snide remark.
The Mexicans with their 4 or 5 kids jabbering 90mph in Spanish, I’m sure understand me as they will give me go to hell looks but usually don’t say anything.
I hate the access cards, I think they should have to use food stamps so at least they can have a little shame. Although, I don’t think most feel any shame anymore.
My preference is commodities, I think they should get them like Indians do.

At least the Indians are native Americans.

I have no idea how much it costs we, the taxpayers for commodities, but I do know it would stop some of the fraud. Of course they could do like many Indians I know and sell the food, so you can never 100% stop all the fraud.
I believe though fewer who just abuse the system would not enjoy having to actually go pick up commodities once a month and haul all that food home.

More states could do what they did in Vermont: require that each adult who takes food stamps must work or volunteer a certain number of hours a month. A huge percentage dropped off the rolls.

Let me be clear. I have no problem helping someone who is genuinely in need, but that help should be temporary, and should be provided to allow them to spend their money on “wants” like a very expensive iPhone. Feeding someone fish, and teaching them to fish, etc.
LikeLiked by 1 person
“shouldn’t” be provided to allow them to spend their money on “wants”. If you’re on social assistance, there “shouldn’t” be any money left over at the end of the money for splurging. When I was a single mom, working two crappy jobs and going to grad school at night, my “splurge” for my kids was on their birthday. That was it. They got a store-bought cake, a meal in a sit-down restaurant of their choice (usually a rotisserie chicken place they loved) and one (1) gift because money was so tight.
So it’s not that I’m unsympathetic, but I’m tired of getting taken for a ride. There have been a number of studies that have shown that if you were on all the freebies available in California, inc Section 8 and utility assistance, that would be equivalent to a $65K year takehome pay. That is NOT okay.

We used to volunteer at a couple of food banks a few years ago, but it became apparent it was just another racket for the progressive liberals up here to make money. We watched prime donations go directly into staff cars. I even recall one of them bragging how much they were going to save on catering for some party they were having.
LikeLiked by 1 person
Yeah. That’s pretty much been my experience volunteering in the civilian world too.
I gave up when at a Christmas toy drive give away brand new car after car drove up, disgorging recipients with expensive hairstyles and fresh acrylic manicures ask me if “that’s all you got?”. We now provide direct aid to families in our community we know are really struggling. Unfortunately that number is growing. There is young man who was obviously trying to live out of his car in the parking lot of the grocery store where my son has his side job. The cold weather is coming and that’s not really going to be an option for this young man much longer. The tragedy is he’s working full time but can’t even afford to rent a room as a boarder in this area – rooms go for about $1,000 mth. So I do have deep concern for many of there who are slipping through the cracks – and to see firsthand the outright theft and fraud is … well, beyond upsetting.

That’s why I prefer commodities, they get the food they need. They only get it once a month, so they have to learn how to make it last and they actually have to do some cooking.
I’ve helped people go get their commodities and it’s work to load and unload all those boxes of food.

Yes, and the food is healthier too. It never fails if I see a cart filled with easy to reheat and expensive convenience franken foods (pizza, hot pockets, etc) it’s being paid for with an EBT card.

I do, too, Michelle – and they should have to get up off their lardasses and drive to the distribution center to pick it up in person – just like they used to have to do when I was a kid. All staples, and in bulk.
LikeLiked by 3 people
Exactly. Like I replied in another post I’ve driven people to get their commodities and they get a lot. Every kind of canned fruit and veggie there is, canned meat, nuts, raisins, prunes, cream of wheat, oatmeal, canned and powdered milk, dry cereal, pasta, dry beans, flour, cornmeal, frozen HB, chicken, plus they get a bag of potatoes, onions and apples and oranges.
Then they have to load it up and haul it home and unload it. I used to have an old couple I took once a month and just for two people it was a ton of food and was a lot of work loading and unloading it.
LikeLiked by 1 person
Sounds like the stuff I buy, except I buy lots of fresh vegs and fruit.

It’s a lot of food and I forgot the box of cheese, rice, cans of soup and cans of juice. My truck bed would always be half full. They were too old to load and unload it and it wouldn’t all fit in their car and that was for two people.

Yeah, our local mega WallyMart is now conveniently across the street from a large housing complex filled with Section 8 and other assorted “rent geared to income” type stuff. We now know to get there and get out before 12 noon, because none of them rouse themselves before then. If you have the misfortune of arriving in the afternoon you’ll be greeted by the joyful sight of plus sized characters lumbering through the store in their PJ’s and house slippers screeching at each other at the highest volume setting possible. Horrifying.

In a normal world the gun buyer/supplier should only have a 72 hour window of stay even though he is self admitted with either life threatening mental illness or homicidal mental illness, it has to be either or.
I suspect his mantra is “I want to commit suicide, I never knew that Farook and Malik would kill people with guns I bought.”
Feds should be able to bypass all kinds of laws to get their own shrink in to do an evaluation to see if there is malingering for secondary gain with this “person of interest”. The mental health specialist in the facility could turn him over to the Feds if they suspect he is malingering.
In order to take such actions the shrinks and the Feds would have to go against Obama.
