Happy Thanksgiving, Menagerie! The big push begins here. Fed the animals, and put in another load of laundry. Next, the coffee, and making the stuffing for the bird.

Happy Thanksgiving Stella. I’m having my coffe while the dogs tramp through the woods, baying at whatever beastie they imagine lives there. All I have to do now is wait for noon!

Most parents seem to refer to offspring this way…. or perhaps it was just my parents… Oh well.

Finishing up the pies – on to the rest of it this morning!

What kind did you make? I may make a mincemeat pie for Christmas. I haven’t had one since my mama died.

Plain ol’ punkin’ – the child is attempting the pecan pies. Mine appear to be perfect – in our family “ugly” is the epitome of fabulous, and they.look.ugly. Tops half-black (you’d have to know the backstory of my Grandma’s burnt, ugly pies) so the carmelization must have occurred this time. DH had to bake potatoes, steam sprouts, grill meat right in the middle of my pie making so the room temp. filling/wait might have had something to do with it.

My derby pies are always a crapshoot too. They are perfect when gooey and its danged hard to hit the sweet spot. Time to cook varies from year to year and it has to be because of the “microclimate” in the kitchen. Global warming is why my pies aren’t perfect!

Happy Thanksgiving! I’m the first one awake (except for the dog and cat), so it’s pretty quiet. We had a small birthday celebration for Milo last night (He’s 12 now; how can that be?). Cash for him from me. As they get older, they know what they want better than I do, usually.

Happy Thanksgiving all. In spite of all the shenanigans in the DC swamp, we still live in the best Country on earth and have much to be thankful for. Coffee up y’all. Hope Dr. No is feelin’ better this mornin’. Mrs. T had a bit of the bug yesterday as well, but I nursed her back to health as the whole fam damily would’a starved without her overseein’ all the preparations.

Mornin’ texan59! I’m better. When I get sick, ‘she who shall not be named’ starts checking her financial position. She must be short of this years goal since I was allowed bed rest for more than a couple of hours.

We had a wonderful Thanksgiving Tex…..and hope you and your loved ones had the same. It’s good to be out and about too. The kids gave us a whole four day weekend…..such luxury! However, Tom asked me if I missed the wee one, and I had to admit I did. I guess one can’t have it all. 😉

Really something isn’t it ? First folks thought they found a savior in a socialist community organizer now they are enamored with the former “King of the KGB” and think he is somehow on the side of America.
Good gravy..

Sigh….no doubt gravy laced with Plutonium. 👿

Our case is a little unique. ‘She whom shall not be named’ was/is a refugee from part of the USSR that revolted around the time the soviet union dissolved. Out of all the places she could have gone, she came here for the stability (or something like that).
The movie appeals to her because the Americans are out of their mind, crazy.
I suspect she originally though it was a drama or documentary.

Can anyone ever get too much of the Godfather? I submit they can not. For me…it’s kind of like a family reunion.

Yep….and wonderful it was, as usual. We are now promised homemade turkey soup for next week. DD herself hates cooking….so, no doubt that was part of his charm. 😉
I bet your pies were a huge success Wee. Though, I’m pretty sure you would have had to serve each slice of that pecan pie with a disclaimer if you lived in Cali. Something along the lines of: Warning! Giant pecans…could present a choking hazard. Dingbats down here are always lookin’ for something to sue over…..

LOL!!! Them vultures over to the child’s house ate everything….. I mean, ALL of it. There were peeps there to feed at the trough that THEY didn’t even know, let alone us. Locusts – and we all know I gave up PC for Lent 5 years ago – were invited by invited guests, and I think that’s unconscionable. Rat bastid in-laws and street trash.
It ain’t fittin’, it just ain’t fittin’.

Did everyone survive? We had a good time, ate a lot, took cat naps. The only bad thing today was our little man has a runny nose and low grade temp, so he wasn’t feeling all that great and wasn’t his usual happy self. He still enjoyed eating his first Thanksgiving dinner though, especially his turkey leg and corn on the cob. He thought that made him special and kept waving each and yelling what we think was “look” and grinning as he took a bite of each one.lol
Discovered he loves pumpkin pie, but hates coconut cream pie.:)

Surviving – barely. Still so full I may yet die. DH and I could have rolled home from the child’s house, we were so stuffed.

The good thing about having Thanksgiving at home is the couch and bed aren’t far and you don’t have to cook again for a few days. The bad thing is knowing all that food is there tempts you even when you aren’t hungry, so you go back and stuff yourself again.

There was a boatload of food and it is always nice when we get so many of our family members together. My sweet potato casserole was devoured and everyone wants me to make it for Christmas which is great except I’m not exactly sure how I made it since it was the first time I made one and I used bits and pieces of three different online recipes. One thing I know for sure is that it had an extra 1/2 cup of brown sugar in the sweet potato mix because I misread one of the recipes. But I’m not telling anyone that 😉
We also draw names on Thanksgiving for the adults to give Christmas gifts to another adult in the family.
Then I made it home in time to watch the Bears beat the Packers so all in all a lovely day 🙂

I couldn’t tell you exact measurements in my sweet potato casserole, I just dump everything until it looks right.lol Many of my recipes are like that because my mother, grandmother and aunts who I got many from never measured. So I basically had to just start with the ingredients until I got it right.
When I was young I asked my mom how to make cream gravy, she told me it had grease, flour and milk and didn’t mention you had to cook the flour with the grease before you added the milk, needless to say I had a nasty mess.I still laugh at my first attempt to make gravy. Actually it took me several attempts before I was finally able to make gravy. But that’s pretty much how they would give you all recipes.
Before grandkids started having kids my family used to draw names. With 7 kids who all had 2 to 3 kids, who many of those kids now have 1 to 4 kids and now some of those kids are having kids, there are just too many of us. We rarely all get together anymore because it’s too difficult to get everyone together.
