The Panama Canal is now free of Chinese control!

The Panamanian government seized two ports at the entrances of the Panama Canal on Monday according to a Hong Kong-based company that has operated them for decades, a move triggered by a final Supreme Court ruling that declared the company’s concession unconstitutional.

CNBC

Panama annulled key port contracts held by a subsidiary of Hong Kong-based CK Hutchison in its official gazette Monday, transferring interim operations of the ports to Danish shipping giant A.P. Moller-Maersk and Swiss-based Mediterranean Shipping Co.

The notice formalized a Supreme Court ruling last month that the concessions for the Balboa and Cristobal terminals near the Panama Canal, which Panama Port Company (PPC), a subsidiary of CK Hutchison, had held for more than two decades, were unconstitutional.

Chinese government interference in Canadian political and government systems has been documented through multiple investigations and intelligence reports.  Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS) concluded in February 2023 that the People’s Republic of China (PRC) clandestinely interfered in both the 2019 and 2021 federal elections, using tactics such as funding candidates, disinformation campaigns, and covert influence operations.

Why the Trump economy is about to blast off

Opinion from Fox News, by E.J. Antoni. He brings up points that on the one hand are obvious, but that I had not considered.

FOX NEWS

First, 2025 was a year of transition for the economy. Under Democrat President Joe Biden, particularly his last two years in office, job growth was disproportionately due to government hiring. Similarly, government purchases played an outsized role in growing overall economic activity, as measured by gross domestic product (GDP).

President Donald Trump turned off those spigots, slamming the brakes on government spending growth and firing a record number of bureaucrats at the federal level. Shrinking the unproductive public sector while growing the private sector is a welcomed change, but it initially shows us as a negative in many economic metrics.
