IRS Shenanigans

Bloomberg

House Republicans, led by newly installed Speaker Mike Johnson, passed a $14.3 billion Israel aid package tied to cuts in IRS funding, triggering a clash with Democrats over tax law enforcement that risks delaying US financial help.

The House passed the aid package 226 to 196 on Thursday, with most Democrats opposing the measure because of the cuts to the Internal Revenue Service. The White House threatened to veto the bill over the provision, which the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office forecast would cost the federal government $27 billion in revenue lost to tax cheaters. (Ha Ha Ha – that’s you and me they are referring to.)

Just a reminder: The latest IRS “investment” is $80 billion, and hiring 20,000 new employees. Seems to me that $14.3 billion is a drop in the bucket.

60th anniversary of the Kennedy assassination

Where were you when you found out that JFK had been assassinated? How did it affect you?

I believe that everyone alive in the United States that day remembers where they were.

I was in 11th grade. It was a school day, a Friday afternoon, November 22, 1963, and I was in my American History class when the announcement was made that the President had been shot and killed. It was a terrible shock.

All that weekend, we were glued to the television set, following every step of what happened (or what they told us).  On Sunday morning Oswald was shot and killed by Jack Ruby, at Dallas police headquarters. The shooting was on LIVE television.

BREAKING: Iranian Proxies Hijack Israeli-Owned Ship in International Waters

Red State

Iranian-backed Houthi terrorists based in Yemen hijacked an Israeli-owed commercial vessel Sunday as it was in international waters. The Bahamas-flagged roll-on-roll-off ship auto-carrier disappeared from tracking systems just before noon GMT (6 a.m. EDT) while transiting the Red Sea in international waters.

It is partially owned by Tel Aviv-based Ray Shipping Ltd, which operates a fleet of 65 pure car and truck carriers (PCTC). It has a crew of 22, none of whom are known to be Israeli.

Yemen’s Houthi terrorist organization, which styles itself “rebel,” claimed responsibility.

The final marathon push to Thanksgiving Day

If you are like me, you try to do as much as possible before Thanksgiving Day.

In my case, I spent more than an hour yesterday peeling and chopping vegetables. There were several vegetables for my roasted vegetable dish; gold beets, red beet, parsnips, red onion, butternut squash and garlic. Then I chopped the onion and celery for the dressing. I put everything in Ziploc bags in the crisper drawer; now my refrigerator has a definite oniony aroma.

Today I started the poolish (preferment) for the sandwich bread that I am making tomorrow. Also tomorrow I will be making a new recipe for oatmeal rolls. If you haven’t seen the sandwich bread recipe before, it is absolutely excellent! Here is a link, if you are interested:

Easy to make sandwich bread – Brian L.

I will also be baking brownies tomorrow that will be used in the brownie/raspberry trifle that I am making for my grandson’s birthday on Friday.  Also, the turkey will be cut up and brined, and the turkey stock (for gravy) prepared.
