Kennedy to head HHS

Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. is President-Elect Trump’s pick to head the department of Health and Human Services. In case anyone is worried about Bobby taking away vaccinations, here are his remarks on the subject:

“If vaccines are working for somebody, I’m not going to take them away. People ought to have choice, and that choice ought to be informed by the best information,” he told NBC News Nov. 6. “So I’m going to make sure scientific safety studies and efficacy are out there, and people can make individual assessments about whether that product is going to be good for them.”

The usual Swamp creatures are expressing their dismay. As reported in the New York Post:

One Senate Republican source was aghast at Trump’s pick, telling The Post that “RFK has as much chance of getting confirmed by the Senate as he does of taking a vaccine shot.”

I guess we will see.

Can Trump Dismantle The Department of Education?

Townhall

In an interview on Tuesday, former Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos responded to President-elect Donald Trump’s plan to eliminate the Department of Education.

DeVos made the remarks in an interview with Fox News.

“President Trump will need to partner with Congress to actually get that done, but there are many steps that can be taken to re-empower states and local communities and importantly, families,” DeVos said in the interview about for former president’s plan and give power back to the states.

“The bureaucrats at the Department of Education aren’t doing the job. They haven’t done the job for more than four decades to close achievement gaps, they’ve only widened,” she added.

DeVos then said that education freedom and school choice needs to happen as soon as Trump enters office.

“The [teachers] unions have overplayed their hand in every area. Parents have seen it,” DeVos added.

“The Department doesn’t really add any value anywhere,” she stated, adding that only 9 percent of spending for K-12 comes from the federal government but over 90 percent of the regulation comes from Washington.

“It’s not what’s best for students, it’s what’s best for lobbyists,” she said.

Rubio appointed as Secretary of State

Not sure how I feel about this one. I’ll try to take comfort in Sundance’s thoughts on the subject the other day. One comment on his, I’m not sure that the Governor of Florida can appoint a replacement. I believe a special election is mandated by Florida law. [NOTE: See below in comments. Apparently I am wrong about this.]:

Using the announcement of Steven C. Witkoff to be Special Envoy to the Middle East, I’ll try to put it together.

If President Trump pulls Marco Rubio out of the Senate, he opens up the position of Chair of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence (SSCI).  Rubio would love the opportunity to load his presidential aspiration resume with Secretary of State, for later use. However, this also opens the opportunity for Florida Governor Ron DeSantis to appoint an interim senator who would be more MAGA-minded, trustworthy and loyal (dare I say Gaetz).

With Rubio removed from the equation of the IC problem, the issue becomes mitigating (think neutering) the Secretary of State from undermining the Trump Doctrine; which, as you know, is the key Trump foreign policy approach using economic power combined with diplomacy.

Senate Republicans speak after electing Thune as leader

While we hoped for better, it is no surprise that Thune was elected in the Senate secret ballot.

FOX NEWS

Senate Minority Whip John Thune will be the new Republican Senate leader and the majority leader of the upper chamber in the new Congress.

In January, he will succeed Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., who is the longest-serving party leader in Senate history.

“I am extremely honored to have earned the support of my colleagues to lead the Senate in the 119th Congress, and I am beyond proud of the work we have done to secure our majority and the White House,” Thune said in a statement. “This Republican team is united behind President Trump’s agenda, and our work starts today.”

Sources told Fox News Digital that no candidate reached a majority during the first secret ballot in the old Senate chamber on Wednesday morning. Sen. Rick Scott, R-Fla., received the least amount of votes and was knocked out of the race. The second secret ballot was between only Thune and Cornyn.
