Homeless people in DC have 2 choices

White House says those refusing shelter or treatment services will face jail as enforcement ramps up

FOX NEWS

The White House says those living in homeless encampments in the nation’s capital will have two choices in the coming days: accept treatment at a homeless shelter, or go to jail.

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt announced the ultimatum during a Tuesday press conference as reporters prodded about President Donald Trump’s federal takeover of Washington, D.C.’s law enforcement. She said many of the homeless encampments across the city have already been dismantled, and those that remain she expected to be dealt with this week.

CEO says vast majority of political event attendees in Washington are paid

FOX NEWS

A crowd rental company has seen a massive uptick in inquiries regarding its services in Washington, D.C., amid President Donald Trump’s move to federalize the police force in the nation’s capital.

“Right now, D.C. inquiries are up roughly 400% compared to the same period in 2024,” Crowds on Demand CEO Adam Swart told Fox News Digital, adding that the time period he is referencing is May to July 2024.

The company always sees a spike in requests during what Swart calls “high-stakes political moments.”

DECLARING A CRIME EMERGENCY IN THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA

In case you were curious about the actions taken by President Trump to get D.C. crime under control:

District of Columbia Home Rule Act

Section 740 of the District of Columbia Self-Government and Governmental Reorganization Act (Public Law 93-198), commonly known as the Home Rule Act, allows the President of the United States to take control of the Metropolitan Police Department of the District of Columbia (MPD) when the President determines that “special conditions of an emergency nature exist which require the use of the Metropolitan Police force for Federal purposes”. Under this provision, the President may direct the Mayor of the District of Columbia to provide the services of the police force for federal objectives such as protecting federal buildings, maintaining order in the nation’s capital, and ensuring the orderly functioning of the federal government.

The federal control authorized by Section 740 can initially last up to 48 hours, after which the President must notify the leadership of the House and Senate Committees on the District of Columbia. If Congress is in session, it must approve the continuation of federal control within 30 days; otherwise, the action must be reviewed upon reconvening. The takeover can last for a maximum of 30 days unless extended by a joint resolution of Congress.

On August 11, 2025, President Donald J. Trump invoked Section 740 by signing an executive order declaring a crime emergency in the District of Columbia, citing high rates of violent crime, murder, and vehicle theft. The order directed the Attorney General to assume operational control of the Metropolitan Police force for federal purposes.

Section 301 of Title 3, United States Code, grants the President authority over the executive branch and is cited in the executive order as part of the legal basis for the action, alongside Section 740 of the Home Rule Act.

Here is the text of the Executive Order (D.C. Crime Executive Order):

Just How Bad Is The BLS At Its Job?

It is vital that the data produced by the BLS is accurate and dependable, and that politics plays no role in its production.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) is an American government agency tasked with collecting and disseminating a range of economic and employment data.

The BLS is responsible for two key inflation indicators: the Consumer Price Index (CPI) and the Producer Price Index (PPI).

In addition, the BLS produces national and regional figures on employment, labor force participation, productivity, and wages.

What Issues & Insights found is that BLS data appears to be influenced by politics, and has been for many years.

Issues & Insights

Yesterday, President Donald Trump nominated a high-profile critic of the Bureau of Labor Statistics, EJ Antoni, to be its new commissioner, promising on Truth Social that under his leadership “the Numbers released are HONEST and ACCURATE.”

If confirmed, Antoni, currently chief economist at the Heritage Foundation, has his work cut out for him.

Last week, we pointed out glaring mistakes the Bureau of Labor Statistics had made in recent years and asked whether its foul-ups were driven by politics or ineptitude.

The issue came to a head after President Donald Trump fired the head of the BLS in the wake of its massive revisions to the two previous months jobs reports, in which it admitted to overcounting the number of jobs created by more than 250,000. Trump responded by saying the numbers were rigged.

The press, naturally, rushed to defend the bureaucrats, saying that revisions are normal and there’s nothing to get worked up about. The BLS routinely revises its initial monthly jobs estimate – based on a survey of 100,000 employers – over the next two months as more data come in. No biggie.

Is that true? We decided to find out and reviewed the BLS’s monthly jobs data going back to 2009. What we found was deeply troubling.

We compared its initial report on jobs each month to the actual figures released months later. Our conclusion: its initial jobs reports have been absolutely and completely unreliable for years – often wildly optimistic or wildly pessimistic – regardless of who was president. (See the table below.)
