Senate Democrats threaten shutdown over recission bill

The second part of Congressional budget improvement is now in the spotlight.

In June, the House passed recission legislation, which revokes already appropriated federal funds for public broadcasting and some foreign aid programs.

The Senate will now vote on this package, and Chuck Schumer doesn’t like it. A simple minority is all that is required to pass the legislation. Chuck Schumer has implied that his party will refuse to cooperate in the 2026 budget process if Republicans revoke billions in funding from previous years, leading to a government shutdown.
