Several cats were affected by the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center, both as victims and survivors.
Tweety Pie, a cat owned by Kathleen Ross, survived the attacks after being left behind when her owner evacuated their home near ground zero; she was later rescued by the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA).
Another cat, Precious, a white Himalayan-Persian, was found 18 days after the attacks on the roof of a 12-story building on Liberty Street, about a block from Ground Zero, having survived without food or care for nearly three weeks despite being injured and dehydrated.
A Siamese cat named Sav reportedly dialed 911 on the day of the attacks after knocking the phone off the table during a distressing phone call, prompting police to respond to ensure her owner was safe.
The attacks also claimed the lives of other cats living in the vicinity, including those in nearby apartments and feral cats in the area.
