Good mornin’, happy Friday, and Happy 249th birthday, America! We’re finally getting a good soaking that started shortly after midnight and about 3:30 shook the house! We could come out of the drought with this one rain it looks like! Keep your head on a swivel and carpe’ your coffee!

    Happy Independence Day to all!

Enjoy the full version of the national anthem. The additional verses are significant. It’s the only one I could find.

Citizens with guns, and quill pens! The declaration was the beginning. The ideas were brought to fruition by the force of arms in the hands of courageous men, determined to bring them about.

I’m in on all but Alice. I hated reading it as a kid, never went back for a second try. Morning czarina!

I’m always interested when I see the regional fights, mostly around the South, over who has the best barbecue. I need to go to Texas so I can have the final information I need to decide. My vote currently mostly goes to whatever good stuff I’m eating now.

Mornin’ czarina! Ribs sound really good for Independence Day. I have some, but they are in the freezer. Guess I’ll settle for a burger – maybe with a salad.

Well! Just got an email from Family Search that says I am related to a signer of the Declaration of Independence – William Williams of Connecticut. I’ll have to look into that.

With so many factors influencing our food supply, it’s good to know that we can thank God for it and ask a for blessing upon it.

For as careful as we may be, it always seems that there are factors beyond our control.

      Mark 6:41-44 KJV
41 And when he had taken the five loaves and the two fishes, he looked up to heaven, and blessed, and brake the loaves, and gave them to his disciples to set before them; and the two fishes divided he among them all.
42 And they did all eat, and were filled.
43 And they took up twelve baskets full of the fragments, and of the fishes.
44 And they that did eat of the loaves were about five thousand men.

I made a tuna and white bean salad for lunch. It’s easy to make and tasty on a hot summer day. There are different things you can add to the salad, but this is what I did today.

zest and juice of one small/medium lemon
1/2 cup thinly sliced red onion
1 thinly sliced radish (or some red bell pepper, if that is what you have)
1 5 to 6 oz. can olive oil-packed yellow fin tuna with the oil (I used an Italian brand)
1 15 oz. can cannellini beans (could use navy beans or other white beans), drained
1/4 tsp red pepper flakes (or diced fresh chile or hot sauce)
    salt and pepper

You could add finely diced English cucumber, olives, capers, sun dried tomatoes, roasted red pepper etc. Whatever you have or like. I didn’t have any today, but some fresh herbs are nice, like parsley or basil.

I also made a small cucumber salad with sour cream, rice vinegar, salt, pepper, and dill seed.

I understand why, but I have to say that I have had neighbors who shoot their fireworks in the street and aim them towards my house/car and other neighbors too. My next-door neighbor (across the street from them) has parked his classic car in my driveway on the side of my house away from the neighbor to protect it.

I have had fireworks land on my roof, which I am sure is not safe.

ADD: I have never called the police since living here, but I did once at my last house. I first talked to the neighbor, who insulted me and told me “get over it”, then I called the cops. I lived a block from the police station, so it was handy.

One 4th my ex shot off some fireworks on our 15 acres… He was very careful and pointed them toward a cleared off spot on our property. One rocket he sent up went to the left where he had pointed it and then, high, in midair made a sudden right turn and landed on our neighbor’s barn roof which was hundreds of feet away in the opposite direction..Lukily, the roof was a metal one and we were not on good terms with that neighbor so it was still there when we moved away 10 years later.

Another admonition to be careful with those fireworks.

      Especially if you warehouse them.
