    His mother, Mira Nair, is a big time film maker who attended Harvard. Her production company is Mirabai Films. Among her films are Mississippi Masala, The Namesake, the Golden Lion–winning Monsoon Wedding, and Salaam Bombay!, which received nominations for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film and the BAFTA Award for Best Film Not in the English Language.

    His father, Mahmood Mamdani, was one of 26 Uganda students in the 1963 group of the Kennedy Airlift, a US-funded scholarship program that brought hundreds of East Africans to universities in the United States and Canada between 1959 and 1963. He is the Herbert Lehman Professor of Government and a professor of anthropology, political science and African studies at Columbia University, and also serves as the chancellor of Kampala International University in Uganda.

    Came back here to add the update on the van story, and you already have it.

    Mamdani? I think the more people know about him the less they will find appealing. He’s charming, in the original meaning, and that’s not good. Thank you for posting the background information.

    The stories of President Trump’s kindness, are not well known. Like him or not, those acts have been quietly related for years.
