Morning everyone. Looks like the rain is over for us for awhile, but the scorching begins!
And the answer to this is every time!

Good mornin’, Menage! I would say that’s pretty much my mantra these days. Coffee’s ready, ma’am.

How did we ever live in the south without air conditioning? I remember doing it, but cannot imagine it.

I know! I didn’t live with AC until I was 19, and then it was just one through the wall unit for the whole house.

I know the base here didn’t start renovating base housing until the 70’s or 80’s.

I didn’t live in the south, but we didn’t have air conditioning for years. The earliest I remember is an apartment in the early 1970’s, and that was just a window unit in the living room/kitchen area. The first time we had whole home heating/air conditioning was in the late 1970’s in a town home. I never had whole home air conditioning in a house until I bought this house in 2001.

Good mornin’, and happy Friday! It’s been a bit of a busy week and today probably won’t be any different. Found this sleek littke beauty with it’s own grinder and it’s really shiny! Keep your head on a swivel and carpe’ your coffee.

That movie scared the heck out of me. But five years later, to the day, one of my all-time favorite movies was released.

50 years ago we were living in Jacksonville, close to the beach and went every weekend during the summer. I had a really horrid incident body surfing one day and didn’t want to go to the beach the next weekend so we went to the movies instead. Yep.
I never went in very deep, again. No deeper than I could still see the bottom.

As one who was among the Children of the Corn in the breadbasket of America, I saw that same movie and we took our annual vacation to sunny Florida that year. I walked on the beach but all of my water time was spent at the hotel pool. 😉

Aus, the weather Channel is on to you! They call it a “summer winter storm” and Glacier National Park will get 12-18” snow today.

😯 Oh, no. It is a little cooler this morning and rained last night. It is supposed to rain off and on most of the day and for the next two days. I need to check the weather report again.
I doubt it will snow in the south. 🙄 Hope your days are nice.

Here’s a discussion I’ve been meaning to bring up for a couple of weeks, although I expect it to maybe be controversial?
Remember several weeks ago when my husband and I took our grandson to St. Louis? We stayed at a very nice Marriott hotel, one of the nicest hotels I’ve stayed at. To me, the room accommodations slid toward the luxury end, with a full kitchen, well appointed, and a dream bath, very spacious and beautiful.
It also had quite the city view from our room, and an open restaurant to one side of the lobby, and a huge seating/dining/conference area on the other side. There was a buffet style breakfast in the mornings that I would have been happy to pay for in a restaurant. Really good food, and many choices.
The complaint, for me, was this. Apparently it is now permissible for people to travel with their dogs, and they were all over the place. The first night I went down to the rest to get our late supper. Little yapped dog in the restaurant running around. Classic tv type situation, an obviously wealthy and indulgent woman who doted on this dog in my dining area. Second patron came in with one while I was there. Two dogs, very small restaurant area.
The next morning, a number of dogs were in the dining area. Every time we passed through the lobby, usually multiple dogs. The morning we were checking out, people were there with a number of Golden Retrievers. One of my favorite breeds, but oh, do they shed.
I have always been a dog person. Big dogs, labs and retrievers. I love them dearly, and I’m one of those people who absolutely believe if your dog indicates he doesn’t like someone, there may be something very wrong with them.
But I was not happy with so many dogs in the hotel, everywhere I went, especially in food areas. My granddaughter is very allergic to pet dander. Being around one flares her up. What reaction could she have had in the midst of all those? When we still had dogs and travelled, we made arrangements for their care.
I can understand air bnb’s accepting pets. People can pay a deposit, whatever. But when you go to the hotel, instead of encountering one or two pets, you now can be lodged with a big number of them.
Opinions?

I have stayed in a hotel with my dog. NEVER would I have taken my dog into the restaurant! The only time the dog was in the lobby was to pass through to our room. We went out a side door when it was time to walk the dog. I think it is a privilege to be able to travel with a dog, and it is important to consider the rights of fellow travelers when doing so.

I agree with you. And, some people are very fastidious with their dogs and take good care of them around other people. But, I do see a problem with so many, especially in a restaurant.

Like some of the “support animals” people have tried to take on airplanes. Like mini horses. And pigs.

I’m so tired of these “support animals”. I almost wouldn’t be mad if Congress actually made a real law. But it would be all jacked up.

National Hike with a Geek Day – push away the keyboard and strike out across the inviting landscapes of nature.
National Seashell Day – I have a basketful from my days on the beaches of Miami
National Take Your Dog to Work Day – potential for chaos
Anne and Samantha Day – Anne Frank and Samantha Smith left their mark on the world during two different times periods–WWII and the Cold War. Despite the fact that their lives were different, both Anne and Samantha wanted to live in a world filled with peace and hope.
National Ice Cream Soda Day – vanilla ice cream with chocolate sauce is my fave
National Kouign Amani Day – The name comes from the Breton words for cake, kouign, and butter, amann. In Brittany, Kouign amann is a popular and traditional pastry. There it originated in 1860 when flour was scarce, but butter was abundant.

Morning czarina. Found a recipe for the pastry from a guy who says he’s worked on it for some time, to perfect it. Challenging recipe, but do-able, if you have some experience.

Morning czarina! Lots to choose from today. I can’t imagine taking my dog to work. He believes that everyone loves him, and he would be constantly begging for food.

Things that make you go oh heck no, and tune in to Secretary Kennedy and all the anti vax doctors more.
Had lab work this week, and they of course tested me for measles immunity. On the range online where my results were posted, it said a value >16.4 indicates immunity. I looked up ranges online, and several sites say only 10 IU/ml.
The doctor’s office calls, says my doctor wants me to know that I do have immunity, but it’s considered on the low end, I believe the nurse even said dangerously low end. Doctor ordered an MMR vaccination through my pharmacy.
My value is 40.

The Supreme Court is allowing the oil companies challenge to California’s EV mandates to continue.

“The government generally may not target a business or industry through stringent and allegedly unlawful regulation, and then evade the resulting lawsuits by claiming that the targets of its regulation should be locked out of court as unaffected bystanders,” Justice Brett Kavanaugh wrote in the majority opinion.
