Good mornin’, and happy Thursday! My computer decided to update at about 5:45 this morning and our interwebz service is about 2hz faster than dial-up, so the coffee’s a few minutes late. Sorry about that. Brought back one of our fave’s. The copper/brass R2D2 model. Keep your head on a swivel and carpe’ your coffee!

Yesterday Lucille posted a wonderful link to Southern Living summer recipes. That made me think of my favorite of all summer recipes, tomato pie. Friends around here are getting some tomatoes.

Here’s the link to the best recipe I’ve found, with my one addition, and tips. The key to this recipe is ruthlessly seeding and drying the tomatoes. You want no juice. What we do is cut the tops off and scoop out every bit of the pulp. My DIL has this Tupperware thingy that drains vegetables, especially tomatoes. She leaves the chopped tomatoes in it overnight, then we still pat well with paper towels.

Instead of using all mozzarella, I make half cheddar cheese, and I add one cup of Gouda, above and beyond what the recipe calls for, just more cheese. Also better to pre-bake the crust until not quite done. As always, if you possible can, Duke’s mayo.

This is a slice of heaven, and I’d take it over any of my favorite sweet pie recipes any day. And the funny thing is, I’m not a true tomato lover. Always love them in cooked dishes, on burgers, etc, but I don’t go out of my way to slice a tomato and eat it, or put them in salads.

That particular “Southern Living” article is a real nostalgia-maker. Brought remembrances of multi-generational family gatherings or church picnics during the summer and potlucks before Wednesday evening services.

Copied this straight from Quora. Seems quite logical to me.

Why are Democrats burning cars and people? Is hate making them irrational?

    Is hate making Democrats irrational?

Something is. Fortunately, a leading intellectual has just put his finger on the reason for so much irrationality spilling forth from members of that party:

Everything in the Democrats’ playbook is denial, which takes all of a person’s mental energy.

It’s no different than a dysfunctional family. If you have a family, and dad is a pedophile, the problem for everyone in the family is that they have to deny that dad is a pedophile because if they face it, the family as they know it, is going to fall apart and they don’t know what comes next.

That’s horrific. It’s legitimate but it’s horrific. That’s where the Democrats are now.

—David Mamet, playwright and lifelong Democrat

“Dad is a pedophile” clearly recalls our Democratic president of the past four years, so I’d call Mamet’s theory about as close to a bullseye as public conjecture ever gets, and it’s more than backed up by a recent studies, including this one from Pew, a reputable organization:

Note that my cohort, Boomer conservatives (on the far right, natch), presents the very picture of mental health.

I would add this comment. I think us boomers are probably “presenting” as having much better mental health, and we do. I absolutely think we were taught to be more resilient throughout our longer life, and mostly we’re never coddled. I firmly believe that to coddle a child, adolescent, or young adult is to bring on depression, lack of confidence, and possibly worse mental illness issues.

But the math nerd in me says we probably are the most likely to answer that we’ve not been depressed or yada just because it’s no one’s business. Which, come to think of it, I take as a further sign of mental stability.

And am I the only person who is seeing the huge number of derogatory comments directed online, and especially on social media, at “boomers” lately?

Afternoon All. Got up really late this morning and had a call from a friend who is traveling and having all sorts of problems. So we talked for a long time. I finally cleaned up and got dressed. They have chain saws out working today so it is really noisy. And, we did get some rain again last night. Hope that helps out that some of it fell here and not where you are.

I think I may avoid the news today. It is looking pretty dismal from just what I have seen so far. But, hope everyone finds some peace wherever you are.

We talked about this guy the other day:

Congress demands investigation into China-based billionaire Neville Roy Singham, who’s funding radical groups — including one linked to LA riots

A shadowy US billionaire who is bankrolling radicals, including groups involved in this week’s riots in Los Angeles, faces being hauled before a Congressional committee, according to a Republican lawmaker.

China-based Neville Roy Singham will be called to testify about his funding of myriad non-profits including radical anti-Israel and Marxist groups.

They include the Party for Liberation and Socialism, which has been heavily involved in protest against US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents in Los Angeles this week, although there is no evidence they have been directly involved in any of the violence which has erupted there.
