Here’s your ornithology lesson for today:
The shoebill (Balaeniceps rex), also known as the whale-headed stork, and shoe-billed stork, is a large long-legged wading bird. It derives its name from its enormous shoe-shaped bill. It has a somewhat stork-like overall form and has previously been classified with the storks in the order Ciconiiformes based on this morphology. However, genetic evidence places it with pelicans and herons in the Pelecaniformes. The adult is mainly grey while the juveniles are more brown. It lives in tropical East Africa in large swamps from South Sudan to Zambia.

Good afternoon, Wee,
Reminds me of a certain Sesame Street character, but I think it’s supposed to be an eagle.

Good mornin’, and happy Sunday! Coffee is ready and we’ve got three spouts to move the restless natives through rather quickly! Keep your head on a swivel and carpe’ your coffee!

Thanks T! It’s taking Wee awhile to fill her bucket up, so I’m thankful for that extra spout! Good morning, sir.

Our Favorite Sunday Columnist has some thoughts this week on some of the college commencement extra-curricular activities. Not so much about the “speeches”, but all the other nonsense, but she’s seeing signs that the pushback is coming. Grab a cup of coffee and enjoy the short read.

locked out ag#in. Wanted to say I’ll have a glass of milk with my hazelnut cake. I had three pen pals in High school, two from England and one from Perth, Australia. And I never met an olive I didn’t like, until I met jalapeño stuffed olives…

Good mornin’, czarina! I’m glad that I grew up in what I would classify as the Golden Age of TV game shows, although there were several prominent ones in the 50’s as well. Powerhousese like Charley Weaver, Paul Lynde and Charles Nelson Reilly on your TeeVee screen five days a week when I was a kid……with my chocolate milk!

I’m looking wistfully at the cake, and you can have my olives. Good morning czarina!

Good day, Czarina! Let’s pray we never need the Heimlich Maneuver….
And so far as known, I’m presently cancer-free, thank the Lord. Hopefully the next check-up will keep the record going.
In my lifetime I’ve had a lot of correspondents (especially since the age of email began) but no “pen pals.” Other than the shower and between the sheets, I’m never barefoot. Stepping in hairballs just ain’t appealing. Also, I never wear nail polish; but I do try to greet people when I’m out and about with something nice and friendly. Today is easy because we can always talk about the beautiful weather.
Since hazelnuts are good for a person, it makes up for olives, which I adore but can’t eat. Small portions of hazelnut cake probably are OK if I’m good and stick to “small.” The same with milk.

I had never heard this story about one of Hollywood’s true icons. He turned 95 yesterday. Hope you enjoy this as much as I did.

Good day, Texan! I’d read that he was in a near-death accident when he was in the military but had never read anything with the full story. Incredible!
First loved him when he was Rowdy Yates on RAWHIDE. Watched every episode he was in.

Good morning, everyone! This entire project must be stopped. Will all civilized governments involved have the courage to stand up for Western Civilization?
Texas: ‘EPIC City’ and the Hijrah to America – Part 1
May 30, 2025 1:00 PM By Clare Lopez
Even as the Trump administration is moving with promised speed to secure America’s borders, within those borders, the Islamic mission of hijra is making inroads, notably in Texas. In the city of East Plano is the East Plano Islamic Center (EPIC), whose “activities are in accordance with the teachings of the Quran and following the teachings and traditions of Prophet Mohammed (Peace Be upon Him).” In short, EPIC is a sharia-adherent organization whose plans for expansion envision a parallel society, an Islamic society within an as-yet constitutional state of Texas.

I thought I read not long ago that they had put a stop to it. When they looked into the whole thing they found that there were a lot of lies of what it was about and who was able to use it.

Never say I did not cover the practicalities and life applications in my classes! My husband and I both got a big laugh out of this one.
Truth is, y’all may or may not remember me complaining about this at the time, when we lived in the cabin up on the ridge, I had plans for a little still out in the woods, and a guy who was going to give me one. My husband, whoda thunk it, absolutely nixed it.
I’m sure all his hillbilly/Irish ancestors were frowning down on that idiocy!

Two of my cousins started a company back in the 1970’s, and were licensed to run a still and produce alcohol for fuel. That was during the gasoline crisis. Later my cousin Sam put the copper still in his living room as a decorative item.

It aggravates the teetotal heck out of me that my wedding anniversary has become Juneteenth. As well as the Pride month crap.
I have to say, the discussions I’ve seen on X the last few days spurred by the Glenn Greenwald stuff are probably the best I’ve seen on any topic, as far as people actually using logic, and presenting some ideas and depth of discussion on that forum. Kind of on both sides, although I do think one viewpoint has moved to the forefront, but that’s my opinion. What I have seen is actually civil also.
I wish people could manage that on other topics as well.

Good day, Menagerie! Pride, gay, gender…three words stolen from the language of the general population. What people do in the privacy of their homes is their business. Just don’t force me to witness it or go along with beliefs which are not my own.

Good afternoon, aus! We’re at 66 degrees but the sun is shining brightly. A nice breeze is up.
My neighbors are sitting out the potted flowers they just bought and tending to their vegetable gardens.
Simply a delightful day!

I bought a hosta to put in my little flower spot. Then, I read last night that it is the largest of the hostas. 🙄 One plant should cover the whole thing in a year. LOL

Well, my sister broke her leg and needs me to return to Charlottesville to help her for a few weeks. I’ve only been back 4 weeks since I went to plant her spring flowers.
Timing is actually good, since I only had a few commitments. And the weather here is turning to hot and humid summer this week.

Oh, no. I am so sorry to hear about your sister. I’m sure she would rather not have broken her leg. But, it is good for her that you can help.
